What a joy to watch you work! It's fascinating to watch how the form evolves out of a misty background !

I just love the sheer darkness of it... The facial expression, the angle of the dim light only catching the face and upper torso....only for the rest to be shrouded in the abyss.... VERY nice, Flo... Deep! Dark! (regardless if you meant it to be or not)

Amazing painting. I know it’s a little late, but you look like you’re trying to make a Bohemian Rhapsody parody cover. Love it!

Hi from Canada 🇨🇦 Florent! I 💜 how you can still see the weave of the canvas... for some reason I seem to have have trouble telling myself it doesn’t have to be completely smooth like a photograph... thanks for another great vid!!!

Great video, thanks! Is there a reason you mix black rather than use a tube black?

Brilliant lesson Florent. Before you started painting the portrait you already had a "black" canvas What did you use to paint the Black was it straight black or a mixture of colours. And what did you use to thin this colour when you painted it on the canvas?

Paul Whiting hi not sure you still need to know after a year but you can buy black gesso, and since it doesn’t seem very saturated on the canvas I’m betting that’s what he used :)

Would you say you pushed this as far as a Caravaggio? If not how would you achieve that type of look?

Superbe, merci! Merci, good job!

Great stuff. That seems to be alla prima, wet on wet, ( like Rembrandt). Ive been trying to do a layer on layer, ( black and white or b. umber and white base like Caravaggio) semi transparent layers on top. I've been at this for years. But unfortunately I have an eye condition that makes it hard to discern one color from another. I am not color blind, but my portraits seem like I am. My spectral range is about 1/4 of the way toward color blind. I see colors but some that look identical to me are different shades. Can any one help with some advice?
