the die you're using looks like a rethreader not a die for cutting, at least the dies I cut with at work have a split in them and are adjustable, a rethreader is not meant to make threads just clean up existing threads
You need only a very tiny later of the gasket stuff.you put way to much on I have never used that much in my years if mechanicing.less is best with that gasket maker stuff.

On the lift pin we turned them and reused them. We did this on trader tractors as we called them.

Spray the inside of the distributor cap with wd-40.it will keep the water from getting to the metal and making it not start

wsounds to me from when it was running the timing is oujt of sink a bit.if that is ity converting to HE wont fix a timing isseu

You have to take the rockshaft cover off.

You need to go and buy two hammers.one is a shot filled plastic hammer.the other is a rubber hammer.they work great for what you are doing right now
Plastic shot filled is called a dead blow. And the other is a rubber mallet.
