David Thompson was the most explosive player for his size ever .. when he took off no one dared jump.. Add that with a deadly jumper and you have an all time Great !!
I wore #33 and if memory served me, was the only kid in my entire high school division wearing Pony high tops back in '78, just like DT. Back then if you weren't wearing Converse, you were rocking rubber cap Adidas or early Nike Blazers. Huge influence on my game but sad to see how the end ultimately began...tearing ligs tumbling down a flight of f'ng disco stairs.
Best player in Nuggets franchise history and their first true superstar to boot! Yeah, I still place Thompson ahead of Dan Issel and Alex English despite his abbreviated NBA career because he was the complete package at the off-guard position back when he was running at full power. Athletically explosive and fundamentally sound as they come, only thing that really stopped him from having a longer pro career was injuries that were mainly linked to off-court drug use. Otherwise, he was truly an exciting player to watch in those days. Easy to see why Jordan looked up to him as one of his "templates" to pattern his game after. Glad Thompson still managed to make the Hall of Fame, heck what he did at the college level alone might've been more than enough (lol)... ;-)

David Thompson and Lew Alcindor were the two most dominant college basketball players ever! Thompson was Jordan's equal! He just wasn't as offensive minded as Jordan.
yo I was thinking of Victor Oladipo as the first player to ever do a 360 reverse dunk... I WAS WRONG EDIT: wait is that a 360 reverse or a normal 360? The quality is so bad that i couldnt tell
Damn I can see why he was mj's favorite player growing up.
sure he really was, and I think maybe MJ got some of his moves from this guy. It's just that MJ is too flashy!
The head fakes and ball maneuvers in the triple threat are something else.
Worthy, Julius, and Thompson were who Jordan idolized his game off of
Mix them together it creates Jordan

Thompson was the one that MJ had on stage doing his Hall of Fame speech.

He was the real deal, no doubt about that

Sad part is that dunking wasn't allowed(thanks Lew Alcindor, SMH) in college when he played.
Why do people call kareem alcindor.

2nd best SG of all time. His addiction kinda messed up his career. Really explosive. Do y'all research.
Forty Four inch vertical jump, IIRC.
I guarantee it was higher in game because there are shots of him with his hand only a few inches away from the top of the backboard

You have to throw Bill Walton in there. Walton's numbers and success are equally as incredible as Lew Alcindor
Gem wasted, he would've been talked as much as Dr. J.!
Respect the architects …not the building
He was only 6'4. Hops
Air before there was Air Jordan!!! No disrespect mike!!!
He's Mike's idol. 🤷🏾♂️
There were 3 Airs before Jordan. DT, Baylor and Dr. J

Bro, are you serious?
David Thompson did the first 360 in the 1976 ABA Dunk Contest.
Vince carter did it so much
Michael Jordan's idol.
