In general, I agree with you. That said, there's a few points where I feel the adaptation dropped the ball. Biggest among them is Nami's arc. Just the loss of savings wouldn't be enough to make Nami distraught; she'd re-raise it again. What truly broke her was that the villagers were marching on Arlong Park and that she couldn't stop them from getting massacred by Arlong. The treasure she had been protecting was being lost. For Usopp's arc, I feel that they did him dirty by only showing him as the boy-who-cried-wolf. Lies are Usopp's defense mechanism in a way that somehow works out for him, and it shows in the series by how he pretends to have thousands of followers by hiding flags on a mountain. All the changes to his arc ignored that element of him. And for Kuro, I felt that him randomly brushing his knives over random things for the scary-killer build up actually didn't work for me. Usually they just didn't leave any traces behind wherever they had touched, so they just felt like... unsteady props. I wish he'd left actual damage on the random furniture he walked by, or snapped strings on the harp, etc. The interaction between Arlong and Buggy in regards to the map felt badly motivated to me. It wasn't made believable enough to me for Arlong to care about this random pirate Buggy tries to blame for everything.
I definitely see where you're coming from, especially in Usopp's arc where they sort of void a bunch stuff that kind of built up his character as a whole, such as his relationship with the three little kids from his village for example, but I sort of understand why they kind of void a lot his stuff as well at the same time... Kind of a weird grey area in terms of balancing production vs story continuity but I digress. I also noticed the thing with Kuro and his claws (especially on the glass), I decided to kind of ignore it because it was sort of a smaller aspect of the show but I definitely agree that it was goofy at times. I sort of see what you're saying with Buggy and not at the same time. I can see how Arlong would BE SKEPTICAL and INTERESTED in what Buggy says, since Buggy is one of the more reputable and famous pirates in the East Blue, along with being one his bigger lackies, and I think the fact that Buggy is sort of forced to be a head (because Arlong stole his body) is sort of alluding to possible torture or a deal where "if Buggy is lying about this pirate existing, he's never getting his body back". But I definitely agree that they didn't make it too convincing and probably should have added extra context in some way. Also, if you enjoyed the content, I would appreciate a sub for the channel! I know I'm in the small minority but I thought Arlong was awesome, I'm not sure what else anyone could ask for outside of whoever portrayed him was taller. He was ruthless, embodied terrorizing just like in the mange/anime.
I definitely agree that Arlong wasn't terrible or bad in any case for the live action. I just think relative to the other villains in the show though, he was a bit less powerful in terms of acting and uniqueness in my opinion.
