The primary objective of the project is to facilitate trade and development between the two countries through an efficient transportation service for both passengers and freight.
The proposed route starts from Tema Port through Mpakadan, which has currently be completed and commissioned by Afcons. From Mpakadan, the route passes through Hohoe, Jasikan, Nkwanta, Bimbila, Yendi, Tamale, Walewale, Bolgatanga, Paga, Po, Zabre, Tenkodogo, Manga and terminates at Ouagadougou. A branch line will be constructed to Sheini to provide rail access to the huge iron ore deposits.
