In the late Spring of 1990, I walked through the west village and found a record shop on W. 4th Street. I went inside and asked the DJ if he had any new releases of Freestyle singles. He did and showed me 3. But the 1st one blew me away!!! "I Lost the Love" Club Girls ft. Eileen it displayed. The DJ placed the LP on the player and boom, the Base Intro began to thump! Then the vocalist begins her song as follows: "I thought I saw your face today, I must be dreaming". "It's been so hard for me to face, but I've begun believing". "You walked away, because I let you go". "You could have stayed, but instead I'm here alone". Holy cows! It was a very simple, but powerful poetry. I could visualize her entire poem! "I saw your face. I touched your skin. I can't believe the state of loss that I find myself to be in". The writer of that song should have been nominated that year for such an outstanding poetry in rhythm. This was the only song across all genres that would put anyone in a trance as they dance to the beat! The composer of that beat and engineer deserve all respect as well because they compressed the music enough to allow Eileen to sing. Kudos to them!
I didn’t hear this song much on the west coast but worked in a record store in San Francisco and pushed this record when it was new. It’s not just a freestyle song, but one of the best freestyle songs imo.

The Base line and the meloncholic lyrics, "I lost the love" distinguished it to Freestyle. I would say it is my favorite. 2nd favorite is Chrissy I-Eece's, Love Desire. 100% Freestyle!

Just found out this was written (lyrics) for Todd Terry and no wonder it has that hard jerky freestyle beat. I love Todd Terry’s early freestyle! I think he was under Masters at Work before Louie Vega and Kenny Dope went by that name. They could’ve been partners back then and I gotta start reading the fine print and the credits.
