Good video. As the guy who always has to be the Mechanic in Multiplayer, I think that you missed a few important tips for Noobs. 1) You can fill up a car directly at a gas station (need generator after power goes out). 2) Remove/Replace head and tail lights as well as Battery & Radio when grinding first few levels. 3) There are “Car zone” VHS tapes that give you XP’s. If you are lucky and find one of these and a Mechanics 1 Book you will instantly be Mechanics Level 2 and only need to grind Electrician 1 to be Hot-wiring Cars in no time! Unlikely to happen, but definitely worth keeping an eye out for! 4) Keep all your tools in a single Mechanic Backpack and wear it whenever working on cars. Nothing worse than “popping the hood” only to realize that you forgot your Tire Pump!
Let's not forget about filling your cars directly from gas pumps AND using Auto Mechanics mod for not having to click 10k times when putting parts on and off.
Fair enough for the mod, but I try to focus on vanilla features and aimed more towards newer players. Zomboid can be a lot for someone just getting started.
@@WavesyGetsGood abd thank you for that, im new to game and so far every video out there just be about mods, mods , mods, and more mods and its me and my friends all first time playing the game
My rule of thumb for leveling mechanics is to get all the books and then read them according to my level. When I’m looking for books I also try to find a screwdriver, a jack, a wrench, and a lug wrench. Once I’ve gotten all my tools and skill multipliers, if I don’t have a vehicle or mechanics 2 then I either find a vehicle or just grind mechanics and electrical until I can hot wire vehicles. Finally I have a means of transportation, I just head to a place with tons of cars and go to town. I don’t really bother towing vehicles if I can just pull up the next day to continue the grind. If I find any perfect condition vehicle parts, I make sure to mark them on my map and pick them up once my mechanics level is maxed or it’s at a level I am happy with.
It seems you have found a great method that works for you. I tend to make suggestions for the newer survivors, but maybe I'll do a video one day about running LV for parts, might be a bit more your speed 😉
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it, I'm just gonna keep doing my thing, try to improve each time. New video comin hopefully tomorrow, and the next 3 are in production, I hope you enjoy them 😁
I clicked on this after watching another video from a different TH-camr covering the same topic. But this video is WAAAAY better. And was a lot shorter. Even though you have a lot less views than the other guy, I wanted you to know you did a better job. And wish the algorithm had pushed your video more than his. Anyway, thank you for the info!
You don't need a welding mask for car repairs with welding rods. I take engine parts with a quality of 35 or below. They are worth repairing at quality 70 or higher (my choice). The higher the engine condiction, more parts you get.
Didn't know this about the mask, but it's good information. I didn't dive too much into strategies like when to take what and etc, maybe it would have been better to.
Can u just repair the seats of a car. In my experience the maintenance of a car gives more ex than installing and uninstalling the parts I play with mods tho cant know for sure
Afaik you can't, but this may have changed recently. Repairing the car does give exp, but costs your materials. I would save materials for your best and most useful cars instead of grinding xp with them.
@@WavesyGetsGoodOh I got it wrong. You find a sports car and then attempt to take off it's brakes. You need lvl 7 mechanics to succeed in anyway but, you still get XP for just trying and failing with no chance of breaking it since you cant actually take it off. So you sit there constantly right clicking uninstalling and spamming it. Cheap yes but, man the grinds in this game lol
Surprisingly i learned a lpt about the mechanics... Mechanic by googling a lot on my other save... Sadly the guy got eaten because i was parked so far from a gas station
@@WavesyGetsGood nah its not a bad game, the novelty of it just kind of wore off on me, something about the repetitveness and the way the character is like a needy baby, I have hard enough time taking care of myself, to worry that a VG character is going to cut his carotid artery vaulting a fence
@@WavesyGetsGood I finally survived my first 40 days and have water/power going. I was looking for a way to keep from getting bored and this video inspired me. Thank you!
@@CashMoneyMerta how are you progressing? I'm trying to set short term goals, like: find generator magazine, and start an expedition to book stores, and very important: treat your character like a human. Wash before going to sleep, put your helmet off and sit down when eating, sit while reading, and clean up the mess in your base: mop and bleach for blood stains, throw zombie corpses out, and grab some boxes or crates to organize your loot. And when you spawn a new character in an old world: find and kill your zombie, and bury it near your base. I put their helmet and weapon of choice on the grave, to remind me of who they were

These are all absolutely fantastic, great advice! I'll be pinning your comment to the top to help all aspiring engineers 🚗🛠

No problem, friendo! 😎

I appreciate it! We'll see, I just wanna keep making things I like and hope other people feel me 😎
Before level one you can do all the lights too

okay then but still my methods wors for me@@WavesyGetsGood
I think you can replace the trunk if there’s no items in it? Just a thought though.
This might be true, I couldn't get it to uninstall but I didn't double check the trunk. Experiment time later!
really nice, i no find a project zomboid community on facebook where i can find some player for try a coop?
I would check out the official discord and reddit.
You could also try a random multiplayer server and see if you meet friendly people you can invite
Does that trick where you start undoing a tire but cancel it still grant a bit of XP?
I'm not sure. Its the first ive heard of this trick.

This is basically how I learned, too. Mechanics is just really fiddly, so half of the guide was for myself, too. 😅
The game is easier than you think, as long as you like organizing menus you’ll have a blast
I think most games have a lot of menus 😅 but I get it, zomboid isn't for everyone.

Now that is a very rad thing to do 😎 I really appreciate it!
