Also, fun fact: during hurricane Katrina, in New Orleans, these were the MRE's that we got to live on while the city was in ruins. Well, we had one restaurant open uptown, but for a while we would have these for dinner, and it was fun. Some of them were really delicious, and assembling them always took my mind off of the troubles everyone was having for a brief moment.

They handed out soooo many! 😂 I had friends at school that were bringing them for lunch for two years after Katrina. Distribution would drive down streets and just throw huge boxes of MREs at people.

I joined the military in 1999, and early on in my career I actually ate that very menu! I'm writing to say that the burrito looked almost exactly like it did when it was "new!" Don't remember the munch bar, not all that exciting, but the pineapple was much better 18 years, or so, ago. Aim Hi!

The burrito looks like corn masa. What you would use to make tamales. It looks just like a big tamale.
That's exactly what I was thinking!! Probably had to rename it as a burrito for the americans to eat it, makes it more familiar if you call it a burrito

A burrito is much more familiar than a tamale, even most Hispanics don't really eat tamales until holiday time
As a person that has had this meal many times, it's not masa. The tortilla is shelf stable and looks odd because it soaks up the liquid in the pack and becomes discolored.

That’s how I’ve always lit those type of matches. The match stick is usually not sturdy enough in those to strike it like you would a box of wooden matches.

Cypress Esparza a Ration supplement package is called a sundries pack it contains confection, condiments, extras and at times stationery as per the U.S. Army Natick Soldier Research, Development & Engineering Center
Theresa Forino I know what a sundries pack means. other mre reviewers don't say sundries they just say accessories, sundries is just more pleasing to me.

I've actually eaten this one, back when it was new. My grandfather was in the military and even after retiring he would have a stash of MREs at home, so my brother and I would always beg to have one for lunch or dinner, if we were spending the night or something. But this particular "menu" I tasted when my brother brought it home, after basic training or some such thing. Good memories.

I find your MREs the most entertaining in TH-cam. I love all your videos but these are one of my favorites.
This was nostalgic for me to watch, I remember eating these as a kid during hurricane Katrina. My mom collected all the Tobasco bottles and displayed them with the rest of her vintage bottle collection in front of the kitchen windows. It's also funny to note that MRE you ate is the same age as me.
That thing is pretty old, surprised it's still in good condition, and I'm shocked that you even ate it. I really like your MRE reviews, hope to see more.

Well 2015 date of production with a 2018 inspection date. I'll get that in the works hopefully by this weekend. You definitely deserve a new one. P.S hope ya hit a million real soon.

There IS such a thing as the green version of Tobasco, way spicier than the red. I know you like spicy foods and stuff, but the green tobasco will melt your eyeballs out of your head!

I am 98% sure green Tabasco is the mild version, I would add it to ketchup for the flavour...

funny, i find the green tabasco more mild than the red! i think the red is more vinegar and the green more tomatillo flavored.
Exactly, i used almost all the bottle on a pizza, the green is milder made of jalapenos.

Everything she just ate was out of date...impressive considering the shelf life of an MRE.
For perspective, in 1996 I had an MRE with M&Ms that had the 1988 Olympics advert on it. It was still well within it's eat by date.
Most MRE eaters can pretty much instantly tell when something will be Off, it seems like (like she did with the pineapple stuff), so I doubt she will ever put herself in danger beyond making her taste buds unhappy. :) It really is amazing how long this stuff can remain edible and safe!

The main dishes smell horrid if they are off, like undoubtedly gone bad kinda smell. The other stuff you hit it head on.
Absolutely an 8 year old mre is most likely still going to be 100% edible. Some things may taste a little bit different. On the other hand if it's stored wrong 8 years and it could be very bad. Say it sat in Nevada in a garage in 90+ degree heat every year. That would be an mre I would not want to stumble across that's for sure. In the end it's all about the storage conditions. Example of a perfectly stored mre were the ones Steve had from Jerry Sullivan frozen for 15-20 years. Those were amazing. It's all just in good fun looking into the past with food.

Crystal Chiquito because of the way they are processed, vacuum sealed and usually cooked in package, they are able to last a long time if kept properly. If frozen they can really last maybe up to 50+ years. You need to watch steve1989 mreinfo he has eaten hardtack from the US Civil War.

Since I started watching you i have tried at least a dozen MREs including Canadian IMPs and I've gotten about the same amount of Munchpaks...you are truly an inspiration to try new things!! I will forever be a fan and subscriber 😆
