The road, rails and irrigation etc were the tools to ease their looting, which they left behind. Irrigation was to feed the Brits NOT to feed India.

"In India nearly everyone is hungry", "Famines takes 7 million each year" and guess what they did with this knowledge: increase taxes and fines for not paying taxes. Do the unfair and label the victims hopeless, that's what they did. And guess what the Indian leaders were competent enough to uplift India from a broken slave to a cruel governance into a potential future super power.
Only recently I found out that India and Pakistan weren't the only countries that the British have left after kindling the fire of conflict. Israel and Palestine were also similar.
5:43 "Britain has fulfilled its mission". Yes stamping down a world economic trade center and super power into poverty, famine, fear and worse of all - communal riots: sadly this final mark by the British prevails to this day and takes many lives every year.

Due to what reasons Britain was forced to leave India, this subject was discussed in detail with Attlee.
I asked them directly that "The Quit India Movement started by Gandhiji in 1942 was losing its edge.
There is no other reason in 1947 ?
What was the reason that suddenly the British government decided to free India ?
In response, Attlee gave many reasons, but the most important of them was the British in the Indian Army and the Navy ...
Growing dissatisfaction with the government and breathlessness. The main reason for increasing this distrust was the Indian National Army of Subhas Chandra Bose.
I asked Attlee at the end of the discussion how much influence Gandhiji had in the decision to liberate India ?
After listening to this Attlee taunted softly and said '

Not mentioned here but one other major reason was that basically Britain no longer was even capable of holding on to it's empire Gandhiji might not have directly forced the Brits to leave but he did certainly provide a spiritual leadership and common ground to the INC this allowed diverse leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru and Vallabhai Patel to work under a single umbrella as they all respected him
