Hiking Around Independence Rock! Alcova, Wyoming!

- Hi all! This hike is located at a very nice Wyoming Rest Area and is a 1.3-mile loop. It's considered a very easy trail. You can even climb up and on the big rock if you're feeling brave. It's pretty neat. Some info about the rock: Independence Rock is a large granite rock, approximately 130 feet high, 1,900 feet long, and 850 feet wide, and is located in southwestern Natrona County, Wyoming along Wyoming Highway 220. Independence Rock was the most-noted landmark of the wagon trails west of Fort Laramie. The rock derived its name from a party of fur trappers who camped and celebrated Independence Day near the rock on July 4, 1830. Eventually, thousands of emigrants camped at the foot of this granite outcrop. They carved their names and messages into the granite, using Independence Rock as a bulletin board for Oregon Trail travelers. In 1961, it was designated a national historic landmark managed by the State of Wyoming. We found this hike very interesting, and we hope you do, too! Enjoy!

What must I do to be saved?
The Bible clearly teaches that the moment a person trusts in Jesus to be forgiven of his sin, he is saved (Acts 2:37-41). He has passed from spiritual death to spiritual life (John 5:24) and has been declared not guilty in God's court of law (Romans 3:21-26).
For it is by grace you have been saved through faith; and this is not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved (Acts 16:31).
The day of salvation is now (2 Corinthians 6:2).

We have been through this area a few times and even though some people will call it desolate, we think it is beautiful. I have climbed up on Independence Rock and it is interesting to see some of the names of the people that went through back in the 1800s. It looks like we share the same interesting in the outdoors! I love that area. Every time I see Devil's gate, I get excited because I know Independence Rock is waiting to be climbed. Even as a kid, when we traveled for sports, we would pull over and hike it.

I like how you alternate between showing the engraved name and date, and scenery. It makes me think of what the person saw who carved their name in the rock, that even all those years ago, maybe their view was much the same.
