Fun fact: Water Girl is named Heather and Bill is named Bill after Bill Hartnell (aka William Hartnell), and his wife (as seen in An Adventure in Space and Time) was named Heather Hartnell. So you have Bill & Heather flying off, into the galaxy at the end, named after the Hartnells ✨

The most sad thing about this is Missy choosing to stand with The Doctor is the fact that he will never know and will now always think that Missy chose to stay being evil?.

The entire "Where I Fall" speech might be the best monologue in Who history.

When Bill points out that "I'm all about girls and kinda people my own age" was her both saying that she loved the Doctor as her travelling professor but also a final attempt at keeping a part of herself alive that is core to her: her love of women as a final attempt to keep the Cyber mind at bay with something that was non cyber, she was just making sure the Doctor knew so she had some validation that she was still herself, she was being brave as best she could

I like how they ended the episode with a single cyber-mite surviving. But even if the cyber-mite didn't survive , the whole idea of the Cybermen is that they can arise in different ways in different societies.
Also "Where There's Tears There's Hope" might be my favourite song of the whole show. It's a shame series 10 is the only series Murray Gold worked on without an official soundtrack release yet. Although he did promise last year that he will release the series 10 soundtrack at some point in the future, so hopefully that happens soon.

I was waiting for this reaction specifically because I knew you'd love seeing 1 back at the end! This is, in my opinion, one of the best finales the show's done, because the character work is just so strong. The 'I do what I do because it's right' speech is one of my favourites of Capaldi's, and it's made better by the fact that there's no music behind it. John Simm's face right after he tells 12 that he didn't listen to a word of it is amazing, knowing that he's just said the thing that would anger the Doctor the most, not caring whether or not he's actually right. It's just so good, and I watched it over and over when it came out.
I think you'll appreciate some aspects of it more once you've seen more of classic who, although it mostly boils down to half a dozen extra references that I won't spoil yet. Very excited to see your thoughts on Twice Upon a Time, although I don't doubt that you'll have already seen it by the time this comment gets posted.

And that's okay, that's good, you've got to keep moving, so long as you remember all the people that you used to be. I will not forget one line of this. Not one day. I swear. Yes, this really helps show how Simms can and does shine as the Master when given the right material. I always liked him, and the insanity he had, but also knew the story didn't highlight it right. There were elements of what I liked in his earlier work (like when he fights Rassilon with the Doctor), but in general, this really brings him fully into the role, even as Nardal is also fully realized.

Missy redemption ark in series 10 was incredible.
If you think about it this ending of the 12th doctor is darker as we think. He didn’t know if Bill survive, didn’t know that Missy was going to side with him and didn’t know that he got those kids to safety. Dark ending for 12th Doctor. For any Doctor really.

Your thoughts at the end were exactly the same as mine! Absolutely love this one, especially in conjunction with the previous one. A very dark two parter but with a theme of hope and redemption. I couldn't stand Simm during the Tennant era but thought he was fantastic here; smarmy, misogynistic and remorseless in the most horribly entertaining way 😂 he and Michelle Gomez played off each other so well. I also have to mention how good Pearl Mackie was in this. Just a heartbreaking performance and feels like we've known her for way longer than one season. I'm one of the people who wasn't feeling the next Doctor's era but I'll stick around to watch your reactions since it will be interesting to see them from somebody else's perspective. Now that you’ve finished the Hartnell era, it’s worth a rewatch, especially if you can find the uncut version w/the 7-8 extra minutes that relate to “An Unearthly Child,” which were cut from the 60th version. You’ll be able to recognize all the other first Doctor companions now, in addition to some of the monsters shown (Menoptra from the Web Planet, etc). I agree with you about Simm's Master. Interestingly, his characterisation (and dress sense!) is closer here to what it was like during his first incarnation in the 1970s.
I'm not a massive fan of this episode. In broad terms it's a good continuation of the story, but there's quite a few specific things that I have questions about or don't like. "What would you die for? Who I am is where I stand. Where I stand, is where I fall."
That whole speech! Motto for life!
Glad you loved the ep...it was brilliant... only thing I wasn't a fan of was Bill leaving the way she did... it felt like another Clara type ending... where she's dead but not dead and will be going travelling with her own companion... I'm glad she didn't die.. but it felt too much a of repeat of that, that it kind of took the emotion of her end away for me, and i didn't really believe in the love story between her and Heather...same way I didn't feel the chemistry between Clara and Danny... both felt like a weak version of Amy and Rory... still Pearl was fantastic... I wish we got one more series of her and Peter together...
Missy and Saxon were brilliant... and I know some don't like him in RTD era... and feel that he was better written here... for me, it was a natural progression... b4 he was insane due to what the Timelords did to him...he was a Master that came out of the memories of the Time war... then planet gone and all that... this version had then, in a sense, tried to be brave b4 he left to gallifrey... got his "drumming" fixed... and then was kicked out... and doing his own thing...so he was gonna be calmer and less crazy😂... though still a misogynist 😭😂 so I loved that this element was developed...and now we know how both died... it can potentially explain a little background about why when he becomes Missy ... she's obessed about getting her friend back... she doesn't remember her end, but she literally saw herself being "good" and may have filtered through subconsciously
honestly ...despite issues I have with moffats plot arcs... I love how he developed on what RTD and Classic Who created with the characters... they feel like the same characters... whether it's the Doctor or the Master...
Missy is just the perfect Master though...
That ending was a shock to us all, I think, if I remember correctly... your reaction, though, was hilarious 😂

The Master loves himself and is an extreme complete narcissist so he flirts with his future self.
This was the episode where i feel Capaldi should of regenerated at the end here which was the original plan but incoming showrunner Chris Chibnall did not want to start his era with a christmas special so Moffat decided to remain for one more episode and write the christmas special.
I have to admit i'm not the biggest fan of David Bradley's version of The First Doctor, William Hartnell is the true real First Doctor to me but he certainly has a strong Hartnell resemblance i wouldn't want to see missing episode remakes they should either just animate them or wait a few years for deepfake AI because you have the original audios and it would painstakingly forever comparing the two and it would somewhat undo the hardwork the original actors and production crew did.
I think personally it would had been more effective if Bill was just seen as a cybermen throughout the episode until Heather the puddle girl arrived then showed the real Bill as she was changing into a puddle that would have had more of an emotional impact but that's just me.
Also goodbye to one of my favourite companions Nardole 😢.
    Overall good episode. 10/10.

    • @Cedrog
      @Cedrog 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

At some point yeah but not necessarily right away. There's been theories that John Simm's Master doesn't regenreate directly to Missy and that all the future Masters we would see are probably between him and Missy, making Missy the final incarnation of the Master and her death final too.
I like this theory because it makes sense and because it would avoid having Missy losing all her character development by regenerating.
