It was Halloween night and Parliament Funkadelic was about to tear the roof off the
Houston Summit, ready to bless the crowd with their cosmic brew of interplanetary
funk. George Clinton, Bernie Worrell, Bootsy Collins and the rest of the P-Funk
collective were riding the success of their first Top 5 R&B hit, "Give Up The Funk (Tear
The Roof Off The Sucker)," a track that had earned them the kind of radio play that
would bring the masses out to see them live in a stadium-sized arena. The group was
only five dates into the tour when they arrived in Houston, but they were definitely
ready to take it to the stage for an out-of-this-world show like no other.
Taped on October 31, 1976, these seldom-seen performances at the Houston Summit
represent Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic in their ʼ70s prime, in the era of their
Mothership Connection and The Clones Of Dr. Funkenstein LPs-a rare opportunity
for everyone to get their proper dose of The P-Funk. - เพลง
44 years later ... And no one has a cover of this anthem better than Glenn Goins ....this brother was special ...ahead of his time
We missed out on his potential
RIP my fellow Melungeon Brotha'. As it is said in Yoruba: AYE L'OJA,ORUN ONILE..........
Because no one has a voice like him
Amen, preach on!

I know I wasn't the only person to get goosebumps when glenn goins was singing!!
+Bigchuck678 Tell it!
+Bigchuck678 I saw this concert in in October 76 or 77. When the mother ship flew over the audience, landed on stage and Dr. Funkenstein came out looking like a Funkay Super Fly, everybody lost their minds.
+EmpressElizabeth1920
I saw the Mothership concert in Madison Square Garden sometime late in 76. Still the funkiest concert I've ever been to and the most fun I've ever had at one!!
+Bigchuck678 Even now........even now****#ripglenn

there are very rare experience where a vocalist can literally take you on a spiritual journey, when Glenn is summoning the mothership it just feels so real. You can tell he was in another place that night and the creator was right there with him
What they heard that night ....was only a fraction of how beautiful The Most High can sing :) .... A vessel of God
Absolutely wasn't that Bootsie on the space base and the Echoplex...
I'm 29 years old my great uncles use to play this all day long man got me in tears man I SWEAR IM A MAKE THE MOTHERSHIP COME IN REAL LIFE
👏 👽 🎶 ✨ 🎵
Who can sing Notes 🎶🎶 better than the TRIBE OF JUDAH ✊🏾✊🏾💯👍🏾💪🏾 SHALAWAM KINGS AND QUEENS 👑
Very spiritual....
The ancestors were DEFINITELY in the building that night!
Glen's voice led them in, for sure.

@@electriclioness4607 Me too in PHL, there was a shootout at the Spectrum, blew out a couple of bullet proof windows, nobody left the concert, at this point in my life I praise Jah Rastafari❤💛🌿for Glenn's voice from the creator ‼
A song our ancestors would sing while working the fields praying they would be delivered from misery......very sentimental to me
*tears*❤

Hi, im gamer Spruzzino yep at the forum arena in inglewood California
You probably remember like yesterday
Glad you’re well. I lost both parents, a grandparent and a few friends to cancer. Luckily a know a few that beat it, including my mom twice before it took her the third time after a long and hard fought battle with stage 4 pancreatic. There isn’t much I hate more that disease. So I’m glad you’re on the mothership as well!
Glen's voice still gives me chills😆
When I was 14 years old, my friends and I went to see the Mothership Connection concert in 1977 at New York City's Madison Square Garden! It was truly a spiritual experience! Glenn Goins was definitely under the guidance of the Holy Spirit when he called for the Mothership to come down, and God guided that ship! The people at the Garden lost their minds that night when that ship came down on that stage! I remember crying and jumping up and down with my friends when God guidrd that ship down in the garden! The crowd erupted in screams just like like the crowd did in Houston! OMG, what a night that was for me! I will never forget that spiritual awakening! I tell my daughter every day about that concert! ❤❤😢😢
Thank you for sharing your experience- it’s connects us 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿🎺🎺🎺🎺🎺
This MAN TOOK ME TO CHURCH. GOD had His hands on Glenn. RIP Peace. Your music lives on in US. You LEFT TO SOON BUT GOD had a Better calling on your LIFE. Fly High Beautiful Angel
Glenn was feeling THAT SHIT. He brought it "Down" twice and called that damn ship in on landing strip 76.

Yes Yes Yes I agree👍👍
I had the privilege of meeting Glen Goins in the 70s off stage he was a very humble shy guy and committed to his wife... I respect that.... so many artists are different than they were on stage. RESPECT!!!
Lol oh you tried to fuxk him sounds like 😂😂
Ah, ok, I thought he´s wearing diapers all the time

THIS WAS THE ILLEST SHIT EVER DONE IN A CONCERT! MY OLDEST BROTHER WAS ACTUALLY THERE THAT NIGHT AND HE STILL TALKS ABOUT WHEN THE MOTHERSHIP CAME DOWN!
The last 1.5 minutes of the song are the ultimate eargasm, a total elevation of every molecule in your body !!!!!!!!
Glen could touch souls every time he took the stage. This performance took us all to that higher place.
Every since I heard Glenn's voice, I can't get it out my head, I think I hear the mothership coming! Lawd!!!
Glenn Goins gives me chills , damn what a voice !!!!
Glen Goins just takes you on a Spiritual Journey. Sing Brotha!
Yes lord
This was a spiritual experience...
One of their greatest songs!
And that's a whole fact
First time I heard Glenn solo I was literally shock! I felt such amazing presence, I never heard anything like this, This man was unbelievable. Love him forever
The same chariot, that took the prophet Elijah up. Swing down ❤
WHO BETTER TO CALL ON THE MOTHERSHIP BUT GLEN GOINS.
Glenn was soul. He was just 22 years old here. He unfortunately passed on at the age of 24 after losing a lifelong battle with Hodgekins disease. But he won the ultimate battle when the real mother ship delivered him to his heavenly eternal destination.
Glenn was MONSTA!!!
Glenn took them to Cosmic Church. Lawd, what a voice that guy had.
He touched something special.
Well said
Arthur Fonzarelli omg really?
Glenn Goins had one of the best voices of his generation
I remember this when I was a teenager in the 70's. This was awesome. Glen Goins could take you to church...RIP! The Horny Horns at the end are off the charts. I am glad that I grew up during this golden age of funk! This will never ever happen again.

Bernie Worrell was rocking that organ 💪🏾
Yes
That is a Clavinet he is playing. That keyboard serves as a common denominator along with 2 other keyboard geniuses. Stevie Wonder & Billy Preston...
He was singing to something else ,hands raised, saying Lord listen
These guys were totally original. Nobody like this.

That show has to be mind blowing

seriously, I get goose bumps everytime I listen to this version of this song. . .
So true brother.
I know how you feel. I get them every time I hear my man Glen sings. I feel in love with him a long time ago.
I am playing this at funeral 😜I hope my kids let the mothership land. Yes that will be the shit!
Elmo and I went to NYC MSG to see Parliament Funkadelic, Bootsys Rubber Band and Frankie Beverly and Maze. We walk up to the box office the day of the show and I say to the guy in the booth in a very nice voice "Can you give me a good seat"? He responded by giving me and Elmo front row seats for 10 dollars apiece! Now days you can barely get a cup of ice for that! A fantastic performance was had by all! Glen and I were buddies. He used to say to me, as he rolled into Plainfield NJ with that Blue on Blue Cadillac Seville " Youngblood, how you're the first one I see when I come into town"? I'd be walking up to front Street to catch the bus to Union College. He'd give me a ride to the bus stop. Glen was a nice guy. He'd show me how to be innovative with a a simple musical pattern. He also told me "Your hair curls up like this naturally when you become a star"! I remember going to his home after the birth of Kasette, his son. Kasette is sitting on the kitchen table is the bassinet. Bobbi, Glen and I are looking at his fingers. For a new born baby the kid had some long fingers! Glen said "well its just about time for me to go and hit it again" .Back on the road he went!
RIP my man! Youngblood
You know the experiences we had as musicians back in the day in Plainfield were amazing, as we look back. Glen was always a great guy and inspiring. I don't know if you remember "The Bags" or me and Kevins Goins Band Deliberated Funk but we had a Band on every Block great times, great times
Ya'll make sure they play this at my funeral!! Glen dealt with that like it was Easter Sunday Service!!!
4:49 - when they start playing the horns in unison. amazing!
48 thumbs down?! Those folks are devoid of funk! #PFunkForever
😎
WORD!!!!!
lol
we can tell you old school with a name like Sherita. They don't make names like that no more. No Otis, Melvin Harold or none of that no more.
No soul
The entire performance is otherworldly! I wanna ride...🥰😇🥰
Everybody went to church that night.

3:56 when that bass comes back in. I get chills every time. That’s some soulful, funky ass sheeeit!
If it wasn't for these guys and many others, you can kiss your most of your rap goodbye
My heart goes out to the people who think Dre had this first
and my heart goes out to yall who think this song is original
Jean Moke
I'm speaking on what versions were popularized. Know one else today, besides you even knew that Elvis ever recorded this song. Most of Elvis songs weren't originals, who made it first?
mysterymediacorp Elvis wrote that song as a variation to swing low sweet chariot the gospel hymn
Jean Moke
Cool info, but you admit that it was FIRST an old 'negro song', like I first said.
Jean Moke
No Elvis stole the song from black people idiot! Black people have been singing that song since slavery. In addition, the song Amazing Grace was also stolen from black people while they were singing that tune on the slave ships.
Little folks know parliament and ewf were dropping knowledge in their music
Omg!! My soul just left my body!!! I've been listening to the Parliaments
for 40+ years BUT I heard them tonight!!! My God!!
2:00 Glenn G. is a funk god. Immortal.
Tablesaw. Hes a real soulman!! ;)
From 2:08 on was the absolute business!!! Glenn Goins was masterful hands down. R.I.P. to a light dimmed way too soon.

Great live performance and killer recording!!! So legit.
"Houston!!" I can listen to the way he sings that word all day. That and the percolating going on after the break down. Bernie Worrell!!!
What an imagination these brothers had. Pure-funk fun
We are are so fortunate that this masterpiece which belongs in a museum was captured on video for many future generations to see what it really means to sing and play from the heart, and 'dance away, out of your constrictions'... cos this was a point in time not so long ago where extremely talented people were encouraged to express themselves... Free You Mind....
This clip is on permanent display at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC, along with the actual Mothership itself, incredible exhibit!
Do it Glenn...Goddamn!!! That brother was the truth. R.i.p
This is a spiritual clip here. Glenn Goines, Gary Shider & Bernie Worrel!

Glenn Flew Away On The Mothership 1978..... From Blewfoot 🤘
Listen here, not only could Glen sing.....this man could SANG....this man had a voice God had to call back home....man I swear to you if i could sing like this I would sit in a corner and drive myself crazy just listening......
Oh my God what creativity
I was working construction at the Museum of African American History and Culture in DC when they brought the Mothership in. Because I was raised on funk and southern music it was such an epic moment for me. I met Oprah at the museum during that time but meeting the Mothership meant and still means more to me. Man I wish I would’ve been born for this era.
The "mothership" ...has finally arrived after 400 years..👍
glenn goins is just amazing.
This song embodies THE ONE! Goins flows deeper than just about the P-Funk Universe; it's a call to ride, to be free, to give up the Funk, to one with the Universe... The Eternal Groove... and each note, each run, brings you higher to a greater part of your soul.... Sing along, dance, and take a trip on The Mothership! SEMPER FUMUS VOBISCUM. May the Funk be with you, always...
RIP Homies! Glen.... Gary.... & Bernie I never noticed your B3 work on this cut until hearing this video.
Could you imagine being in the crowd grooving to then looking up with everybody else to see the mothership coming for real GREAT TIMES
