    Soapnuts ARE great, but the increased demand for them in western industrial countries has caused the prices for them to explode. The consequence is that many poor people in the countries were they are native, especially in India, can no longer afford this product that has been pretty much free for generations. They have to use cheaper chemical cleaners instead.
    The difference: THEY don't have plumbing and canalisation as we do, the toxins go directly into the soil.
    So just because it's growing on a tree doesn't mean, that you are doing nature a favour by using it. Sometimes it's just outsourcing the problem.
    A local alternative are horse chestnuts, for example. You can shred them and leave them in water to get a soapy liquid for washing, or just add some shredded nuts to your washing in a pouch. They can also be dried and used all over the year.

      Thanks for letting folks know about this problem. I had never even HEARD of soap nuts, much less known about the issues surrounding the impact on poor people. Around Halloween & Valentine's Day, I'm always trying to educate people on the problem with buying cheap chocolate,- letting them know about child slave labor in the chocolate industry, as well as the damage done by palm oil plantations, and, for those concerned about farm animals, avoiding dairy (milk chocolate). Endangered Species Chocolate offers an alternative & there are others but you have to look for companies selling alternative products.

    I prefer castile soap over soap nuts, it's easier to find around me, and I've heard concerning things about people who used to have access to soap no longer being able to afford them.
    So, castle soap! Cause if it ain't broke don't fix it :3

    My Mom's go-to cleaner for any wooden surfaces (tables, cabinets, room trim, etc.) is a combination of olive oil and vinegar. She just mixes about equal parts and it cleans all of the built up grease of kitchen cabinets or years of dust off old furniture while rehydrating the wood. I use it a lot when I'm prepping old furniture for my diy projects and I love that you don't have to use a lot of effort to clean up because it's highly effective.
    P.S. I love your channel and your blog! It's nice to see other people living a holistic lifestyle and see what sort of tips they have that I can try. So thank you so much for your courage and letting us be a part of your life!

    I love using all natural products to clean! I use apple cider vinegar as a rinse aid in my laundry. It prevents static cling as well as deodorizing. Eliminate those nasty dryer sheets, they're made from petrochemicals and leave a film on your lint screen which can lead to a fire or possibly burning out your dryer's motor. Just add 1/2 cup of distilled vinegar to your rinse dispenser for each load of laundry. I also use Dr. Bronner's liquid Castile Soap. Diluted with water it makes a great floor cleaner.

    • @Ozymandias1971
      @Ozymandias1971 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Doesn't it smell??

    • @helpfulnatural
      @helpfulnatural 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No, it leaves no vinegar smell behind at all. In fact, my laundry smells fresh & clean. My best description would be that your clothes come out of the dryer smelling clean like they've been dried outside in fresh air & sunshine. Both plain white vinegar & apple cider vinegar work well for this. I just prefer the apple cider variety myself. And, apple cider vinegar does not stain fabric despite the fact that it's amber in color.

      Ok if I go to the laundry mate, how do I do tnis?

    • @helpfulnatural
      @helpfulnatural 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      potterylady1 If your washing machine has a rinse dispenser, just add the vinegar to it at the beginning of the wash cycle. If not, you'll need to add the vinegar to the machine at the rinse cycle, while it's refilling with water. I hope this helps.

    Love this video and Yes I agree with mykyn mykyn comment, don't use vinegar on granite, marble, or aluminum surfaces. It will dull them and ruin them over time. Also don't use hydrogen peroxide on that rubbery stuff (what's that called) around your tubs, sinks and windows, it will dissolve it. Also don't use vinegar straight --To make the most amazing all-purpose cleaner though, dilute the white vinegar with water in a spray bottle - you can do half & half measurements - and add a few drops of dish soap. shake it. add essential oils like she said if you want it to smell pretty, but it will actually smell really good without added fragrance once it dries. I used to work for a cleaning company and the clients always raved about how great it smelled after I used vinegar I noticed - and that's all I used!

    I preach this so much! Being in the HVAC industry has lead me to have a better understanding of just how bad commercial cleaners are. That's why the typical household NEEDS an air cleaner if they plan to continue use of these products. I on the other hand use baking soda, peroxide and various essential oils to clean my house. I change my air filter out every month and experience less asthma symptoms due to this fact. Thanks for sharing these great tips!

    I make an all purpose spray able cleaner that I use for everything, and I mean everything. 2 cups vinegar, 2 cups water, 15-25 drops of lemon grass essential oil, and 3-5 drops of dawn dish soap but I'm sure Bronners would work just as well! Shake before each use.

    I love this! I use vinegar for everything. You can put it in the dishwasher as a rinse aid and use baking soda for the prewash. Thank you for this awesome vid. I haven't tried soap nuts yet, but I want to give those a try. May I ask you you're opinion of Borax? Some people love it as a natural cleaner, but I've heard some conflicting info about it and I'd love to hear your take on it. Thanks!

    Your videos are absolutely wonderful!! Well made and informative. I have already tried some recipies and the food was amazing and I am considering to splurge on a dehydrator now. Will definitely try the cleaning alternatives as well. I highly appreciate your efforts and hope you are well. Thank you so much.

    Yay! I use the majority of these things, but I have always wanted to try the soap nuts! I have converted a few of my mommy friends to using homemade/natural cleaning products. It is scary how much bleach parents use! I'd rather smell vinegar than bleach any day ;P
    Please do a video on soap nuts. I'd love to learn more about it and a good place to get them. Thanks for your video's, keep it up!

    I subscribed to your channel because of this, haha. Lovely video, I definitely wanna try soapnuts! I kinda have a fear of all chemical cleaners (I accidentally mixed bleach and vinegar one time and filled my house with chlorine gas) so these natural cleansers are AMAZING!

    Excellent video . I've been chem free for years now, one of the best things I've ever done . I'm Deffo gonna try your lemons in vinegar idea . I've used soap nuts before but it was disastrous lol, I think you made me want to give it another try, and what a fab idea to blend them with water to make a soapy liquid solution. I've watched some of your vids and I think you're great, keep up the good work ! :D
