I came here to learn about brumation and left thinking "man I can so relate. Not wanting to get up, wanting to be left alone, hiding under my blanket from the light source..."
I have to say, I have no idea how I got into watching your videos. I don't own a reptile, I am never going to own a reptile, I don't know anyone who owns a reptile. I have nothing practical to gain by watching these videos and learning all of care and effort that goes into caring for a reptile. And yet here I am two years later still absolutely fascinated and watching videos on brumation, eye surgery, mango eating, shedding...
I have a feeling you’ll end up getting a reptile lol. You’re going to see one and make an impulse buy. And you’ll be happy you learned so much over the years. They’re such great animals.
I’m so glad you went over this again. We have two reptile vets in the entire county out here, and BOTH of them tell people NOT to let their dragons brumate, and to keep them up!!! 🤬. Makes me crazy! 😣
My vet recommended against brumation too. I can see why, but I think as long as the dragon is healthy to just let them brumate. Mine’s brumated twice now and did so safely!
It's been years since I've had reptiles. I don't think I'll ever have them again, due to how costly it is to care for them properly, and the fact my depression downtime could turn it into a neglectful situation. Don't want to risk that. But I very much enjoy reptiles through your videos. Warms my heart to see reptiles cared for by someone who loves them so much, and someone who has actually bothered to learn about their needs. Not only that, but educate others! :) Thank you for looking out for our scaled friends.
I have had my beardie for 6 years now and the older he gets the longer he brumates so scary . thank you for the video cause a lot of others tell you to keep the lights off so I keep them on for 5 hours during this time. But Rocko seems to be healthy
I definitely needed to watch this video. I'm about to get a bearded dragon, and I was still a little unsure about what brumation meant. Thank you so much. Love your videos! :)
As a new owner of a rescue I really did start to panic the last few weeks. No poop, not eating and lethargic, but not looking ill. So glad I watched this video, but have to admit I did offer a dubia at the start of the week as I wasn’t fully aware and wanted to make sure he was ok. Now I just feel guilty 🫣 New subscriber.👍🏼
I love seeing Phoenix. Thank you for setting up your patreon, and your discord server... pretty sure my dragons are doing as well as they are thanks to you and the whole discord community.
Thank you bro. My little junebug (about 3 years old) hid under the log and burrowed in the newspaper. A few days ago she did this and i took her out and made her bask... glad i watched this video so i don't screw it up or stress her out anymore than i already did.
This definitely helped me out thank you I was in a panic I got my dragon as an adult and have very little experience with brumation I definitely have the habitat part down dry arid low humidity and between 85 and 105 degrees so I was in a complete panic when his chin turned black and he just stopped moving very often every now and then he'll move to a new spot but he just lays there with his eyes open and he is breathing so obviously alive but just confused me so much
Thank you! I've been considering tube feeding because she hasn't been eating. I didn't consider brumation because she just came out of it 6 months ago...
My bearded dragon closes his eyes like I annoy his soul when I would bring bugs to him. 3 months ago he was every bit of excited but now he looks at me like I should die
Thank you for this information! I was so concerned for my beardie. He had stopped eating normally/stopped chasing his food around a week ago and it has had me stressing out.
Can they shed a lot of weight during this process? I cannot tell if my beardie is in brumation or is sick and not sure if I should make an appointment or let her be.
Animal 1 I need help. I can’t tell if she’s brumation or sick. She stays in the cool area and it’s fall. But she also sometimes moves to bask and is sometimes active. Is she moving into brumation? I haven’t been feeding her bugs just powdered veggies for 2 days I can’t tell if she’s just sick or what
Thank you for the video associated with the content. People keep just talking about it like I can’t just go find an article telling me the same stuff 😂 I want images and video clips!
Our bearded dragon has been sleeping on both the hot and cold side and doesn't come out until around noon. He's a year old, still paces and glass surfs when he wants out but run to eat his roaches like he usually does.
My dragon has been in Brumation for one month now but I read that the lights should be shut off. You’re saying to keep lights on. Why the difference in opinions. I’ve had the lights out for sometime now. What should I do.
My beardy hasnt eaten for 1 month and not want to drink mabey twice in a month ??? Is this part of it? What do i do and when will he come out of this is it ok for him to go without food and drink for that long of time
😂😂Lmaoooo this is so me. Mine is about to start. He’s literally my best buddy and I’m here stressing like who is going to keep me company while I’m working from home if he’s sleeping.😢
Thank you for the info .what can I do when my beardy ate a little bit but is in brumation. My Momo is a rescue and I didn't know until now. I never had beardies before and I love him so much I want to make sure I do it right could you please give me some advice since he did eat a little. Thank you ♥️
and what if you’re dragon is free range? I live in the Deep South where we have a mold and short winter but my Gal has already detected the change and is starting to sleep more and come off food except a little protein.. any tips for dragons who are let to roam? I’ve been putting her in a basking tank and using heat mats (safely through glass and fabrics etc)
I got a beardie who was neglected and extremely skinny…but it’s also December and he’s showing all signs of brumation…Yet I can’t feed him? What do I do??
ok so I recently adopted a 5y old bearded dragon (isa) 2 weeks ago and I've never had one before but her mami died of cancer and she need it a home, now she started brumating and this video helped alottttt cuz I thought she was dying on me so thank you. the one thing I want to know i have her on my living room and I have a 7y old daughter that plays here do I need to move isa to another room or are they good with noise during brumation?
My beardie was super active yesterday and he ate his fill of bugs. Today he was in his little hidey all day and hasnt moved wonder if this is his brumation period. A lottle worried as he had a ful feed yeterday will have to keep my eye on him. Thanks for the info
Oregano is a bit too crazy to brumate well. His favorite day napping spot is on his cool side rock looking out his window. Lady Basil will go in her cave a week or two, then come out for a couple of days, then go right back in, etc. I keep fresh water in there, but she sometimes doesn't drink water either. He has to be comfortable, but be able to keep a constant watch until she comes out for a day or two. The first year, he went completely bonkers by week two because he didn't know where she was.
My beardie started brumating a few days ago, right before he did he ate quite a few mealworms and hasn’t defecated yet. How dangerous is it? And how do I make him poop? please help.
I've had my beardie for two years and he hasnt brumated. But the past couple of days, he's been in his hide all day. Is he brumating now? Its march. Is that too late to brumate?
hey man, after I fed my beardie some mealworm something happen to him. he becomes less active (laying down, he’s not dead). is this a sign of brumation?
So our bearded dragon has gone into brumation for the first time on the 16. My boyfriend fed him right before and he didn't poo. Is he going to be okay, or should we give him a warm bath? I don't want the food to sit in his belly. Also what about water? He doesn't drink from his bowl and I usually don't keep water in there anyways because it brings the humidity up, but I'm afraid since he's not getting his water from his greens and hornworms anymore, that he's going to die of dehydration.
Please help! I live in California and we are entering summer(it’s July)My beardie seems to have started a Brumation, but is that something normal for summer months here? It’s winter in Australia and I’ve read that this can happen. Should I be concerned?
My bearded dragon definitely is like a 6 month’s Brumation dragon.. could this be cause he’s older and he doesn’t eat much only when he’s actually hungry. He’s healthy nice fat tail. He just always sleeps.
normally when they get older they brumate longer. it takes their body longer to feel like it has enough energy to go another year. I read a case of a 17 year old BD that brumated for 8 months the last 3 years of his life.
Someone please advise, we rescued an abandoned dragon 6 months ago and I think he’s starting to brumate now. Problem is, he broke his jaw 3 months ago and it’s still healing. No parasites. Should I stop him from brumating??? I’d ask the vet but I think she’s always against brumation.
So my bearded dragon is going through brumation I believe but the fat pads on his head and tail are sucken in and I’m concerned he is dehydrated or malnourished. What should I do ?
I read to turn off his basking light and just have a warming lamp to avoid waking him up with the light. So should I offer the basking light or just leave it dark with the warming lamp? Its his first brumation.
I live in Pennsylvania. Is it to early for brumation? My bearded dragon will not eat and when I try to give him food he closes his eyes. He hardly moves. He also seems like he is hiding. He will go under his hammock for days and never move from that spot for days. He did poop the other day and he gapes every so often.
Thank you for all the info. This is my first year with one of my bearded dragons brumating. He is sort of halfway undercover now I think slowly coming out of it, just chilling with his head sticking out, but his eyes are still closed. He is in a well lit room, in the living room, so the natural sun hours are definitely happening, but I have turned his lights off during this time because he's been in there for three months. I'm wondering when I should turn his bulb on, and his UVB lights.
Thank you for clarifying this. I had learned from your previous videos that brumation wasn't quite the same as hibernation, but this definitely clears up the misinterpretations. I don't own a reptile, but this is very important information regardless. Mongo has the best peanut arms. Every time I see that video intro, I think "Yep, those are peanuts for arms"
Thank you so much for this and Everyting you post! I allways end up on your channel for info. A little worried about the girl that adopted me. She clearly is going in brumation since 2-3 days. She ate both veggies and worms 3 days ago but she also did poop before she hid away and now shes staying where she is. I dont see any other signs of problem so im pretty sure shes brumating. what worries me is that i dont think what she ate would have time to digest in time for the poop so she probably got food left in her. She pooped just a cpl of hours after she ate and then a bit later she went to sleep for the night. I moved her to anther spot the first day so now shes surronded by papers (after i watched the video first time and saw one of yours under the paper). And she hasnt moved from there, a bit nervous i had to check so shes alive and she opens her eye when i come and thinks to me with her eye : WHAT, leave me alone! Im just nervous about that she still got food in her and what to do? Thank you again for all the superb videos!
My parents always get super concerned when my reptiles r sleeping and not coming out for days sometimes even weeks they're always concerned they're dead nah they just sleepy
I did not know this information and I fed my dragon bugs a few times during brumation. Should I leave her alone or try and do warm baths to help her poop? I have had her for a couple years and feel bad that I did not know but I thought that we as owners had to induce brumation by changing their light cycle.
Ok so my girl has been in her cave on and off for 3 weeks. But I didn’t know till ur video that I was not suppose to feed her. Should I stop all feeding when she stays in her cave 100% of the day or slowly start? Thank U so much. I’m just so confused with this Brumation thing.
So, why do lizards brumate in the first place? Saving on metabolism I get, but they are not in the wild. They don't need to save up, do they? Or do I have that wrong?
so i think he’s in a bit of a brumation stage but i have been feeding him small amounts(he’ll only eat a tiny bit if i offer it to him)(i didn’t know this could be harmful) and he hasn’t pooped in over a week….should i be concerned? i have given him warm baths and he is somewhat active sometimes but still no poop….i’m very worried about him but otherwise he seems perfectly healthy and normal
Thank you for all the info . I think my beardie is going into brumation . Going to miss my dragon during brumation but as you stated resist the urge to touch the dragon .
I am nervous because my beardie has gone to sleep in the shaded part for over 7 days now. I am not able to tell if she is breathing or not and I dont want to disturb her because apparently that is what I am not suppose to do when they are brumating so I am torn.. I just wanna make sure she is okay
I came here to learn about brumation and left thinking "man I can so relate. Not wanting to get up, wanting to be left alone, hiding under my blanket from the light source..."
this is true
Me too.
ROFLOL!!!!
I've got the number to a great therapist.

You should own one! they are amazing and some are so easy to care for!
Me too. lol
I have a feeling you’ll end up getting a reptile lol. You’re going to see one and make an impulse buy. And you’ll be happy you learned so much over the years. They’re such great animals.
LOL
Get one. You will love it. Especially if it's an awesome lizard that becomes like your best friend like having dog you love so much..
I’m so glad you went over this again. We have two reptile vets in the entire county out here, and BOTH of them tell people NOT to let their dragons brumate, and to keep them up!!! 🤬. Makes me crazy! 😣

Thanks for the timely video. I was growing concerned because Bruce has been doing just what you described- just resting. Happy Brumation!
Very welcome
I have had my beardie for 6 years now and the older he gets the longer he brumates so scary . thank you for the video cause a lot of others tell you to keep the lights off so I keep them on for 5 hours during this time. But Rocko seems to be healthy
yes my old ones go 6 months sadly half the year lol
Thank you so much for this video! My bearded dragon started doing this a couple weeks ago.
Glad I could help!
Ive just been bindging your bearded dragon rescue series and you upload this! perfect

No Problem!
Same here! Being a first time owner this helped a lot
I am so glad you are rescuing beardies. Keep it up! My grandma and I are new dragon owners so your video was awesome. You rock!
I definitely needed to watch this video. I'm about to get a bearded dragon, and I was still a little unsure about what brumation meant. Thank you so much. Love your videos! :)

I love how much i have learnt from you and I dont even have any lizzard friends.

Thank you so much I was worried that he was sick cause he was just so tired just sleepin all day!

My bearded dragon closes his eyes like I annoy his soul when I would bring bugs to him. 3 months ago he was every bit of excited but now he looks at me like I should die

Should i turn the heat lamp off too or just the uvb
I just bought a bearded dragon 🐉 two days ago and they are amazing! 🤩
I thought mine was sad. Thank you for this.
Thank you for this information! I was so concerned for my beardie. He had stopped eating normally/stopped chasing his food around a week ago and it has had me stressing out.
Can they shed a lot of weight during this process? I cannot tell if my beardie is in brumation or is sick and not sure if I should make an appointment or let her be.

its hard to tell every dragon does it different. they will normally not move to bask once they start brumation
@@Animal1Guy She is moving more and more I think he is just playing with the idea. Going to resume feeding her insects tommorow
Is it possible they can go into brumation earlier like say summer months?
My dragon has been in Brumation for one month now but I read that the lights should be shut off. You’re saying to keep lights on. Why the difference in opinions. I’ve had the lights out for sometime now. What should I do.
It’s April an my boys about 2 and a half . He’s brumating but it’s not the right time . What do I do
My dragon is doing this now I'm in UK can they do it other times of year
So what if they're doing it the first nice day of Spring on its way?
Should I provide water during brumation?
you can leave a bowl in there but they normally ignore it.
My beardy hasnt eaten for 1 month and not want to drink mabey twice in a month ??? Is this part of it? What do i do and when will he come out of this is it ok for him to go without food and drink for that long of time
I'm getting really lonely and sad though 😩I miss my beardie so much he has been in brumation for a month now.... hoping he is rested enough soon
😂😂Lmaoooo this is so me. Mine is about to start. He’s literally my best buddy and I’m here stressing like who is going to keep me company while I’m working from home if he’s sleeping.😢
I watch this video every year ❤
Thank you for the info .what can I do when my beardy ate a little bit but is in brumation. My Momo is a rescue and I didn't know until now. I never had beardies before and I love him so much I want to make sure I do it right could you please give me some advice since he did eat a little. Thank you ♥️
if its a little food it should be ok!
and what if you’re dragon is free range? I got a beardie who was neglected and extremely skinny…but it’s also December and he’s showing all signs of brumation…Yet I can’t feed him? What do I do??
Good info man! Thankyou!
Bro, thank you soooooo much for this video

Love how informative this is! I have a question though. What do the youngsters do during brumation? Aren't they supposed to eat a lot and grow?
My beardie was super active yesterday and he ate his fill of bugs.
Today he was in his little hidey all day and hasnt moved wonder if this is his brumation period. A lottle worried as he had a ful feed yeterday will have to keep my eye on him. Thanks for the info
Thank you thank you thank you❤️ I haven’t heard anyone have any good explanation about brumation.
You’re welcome 😊
How old are they when they brumate
Oregano is a bit too crazy to brumate well. His favorite day napping spot is on his cool side rock looking out his window. Lady Basil will go in her cave a week or two, then come out for a couple of days, then go right back in, etc. I keep fresh water in there, but she sometimes doesn't drink water either. I try to do sneaky wellness checks, just to make sure she's still breathing. While she's brumating, all of Oregano's spots have to align with the doorway to her cave. He has to be comfortable, but be able to keep a constant watch until she comes out for a day or two. The first year, he went completely bonkers by week two because he didn't know where she was.
awww lol
So many beautiful dragons!
Thank You
My beardie started brumating a few days ago, right before he did he ate quite a few mealworms and hasn’t defecated yet. How dangerous is it? And how do I make him poop? please help.
Hi, do u off the UV light off with heater mat on? I worried if Iniff the like they will not have their UV.
Hello from Scotland. Was wondering why my little one wasn't eating lately. Sounds like burmation. Thanks.
Welcome!
So our bearded dragon has gone into brumation for the first time on the 16. My boyfriend fed him right before and he didn't poo. Is he going to be okay, or should we give him a warm bath? I’m in Jersey and I’m pretty sure mine is brumating. He’s been brumating for around a month and a half. He’s around 2yo!
Thank you for all the info. This is my first year with one of my bearded dragons brumating.
He is sort of halfway undercover now I think slowly coming out of it, just chilling with his head sticking out, but his eyes are still closed. Do their eyes bulge during brumation?
Can a 2 months old go into brumation
Hey Im a new dragon owner and I was wondering how do I get my bearded dragon to sleep
What should the tempiture be when a dragon is bromating
Huh this actually makes sense, I've noticed this myself an was wondering what he was doing
glad to help
And its Feb will they do it in February
Thank you for clarifying this. I had learned from your previous videos that brumation wasn't quite the same as hibernation, but this definitely clears up the misinterpretations. I don't own a reptile, but this is very important information regardless.
Mongo has the best peanut arms. Every time I see that video intro, I think "Yep, those are peanuts for arms"
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you for letting me know my one year stop eating and now it makes a lot of sense
good

My parents always get super concerned when my reptiles r sleeping and not coming out for days sometimes even weeks they're always concerned they're dead nah they just sleepy
This is a common concern during these times lol
How do I differentiate between brumation and my beardie being sick?
What if they are going under the heat ? I thought my Beardy was dying ! I got so scared
I did not know this information and I fed my dragon bugs a few times during brumation. Should I leave her alone or try and do warm baths to help her poop? I have had her for a couple years and feel bad that I did not know but I thought that we as owners had to induce brumation by changing their light cycle.
Good advice
Glad you liked it
Ok so my girl has been in her cave on and off for 3 weeks.
But I didn’t know till ur video that I was not suppose to feed her. Should I stop all feeding when she stays in her cave 100% of the day or slowly start?
Thank U so much. I’m just so confused with this Brumation thing.
feed when they bask, thats how you know their digestive system is working
So, why do lizards brumate in the first place? Saving on metabolism I get, but they are not in the wild. They don't need to save up, do they? Or do I have that wrong?
its been wired into their DNA so they do it as pets also.
This is my first bearded dragon, I'm so worried I gave her dubia roaches because I thought she was sick 😫 but I pretty sure she's in brumation
Same with my dragon. He hasn’t pooped in like two weeks
I think mine has went into brumation now start of the year???
it can happen
He passed away found him tonight 😢
I didn’t know what was happening because my pancake didn’t do that when I first got her so this helps a ton
So do I cut both lighting the heat and uvb
i just cut uvb off if they are brumating in a cave
Does it happen during this time too? My bearded dragon is so lazy right now and I’m worried
i didn’t know my beardie was about to brumate so i fed her food, now she’s brumating, should i bath her so she poops?:(
Can brumation start early in the year
Depending on where you live, yes
What happens if I fed my bearded dragon bugs before I realized he was going into brumation?? I don't want him to get sick
Is there an update on ripley?
She is still doing great
@@Animal1Guy great news, thanks for all your uploads
so i think he’s in a bit of a brumation stage but i have been feeding him small amounts(he’ll only eat a tiny bit if i offer it to him)(i didn’t know this could be harmful) and he hasn’t pooped in over a week….should i be concerned? i have given him warm baths and he is somewhat active sometimes but still no poop….i’m very worried about him but otherwise he seems perfectly healthy and normal
brumation will only be if they lay on the cool side they wont bask
What if mine is doing it now? I'm in California
He still eats and poops. Not as much though
Thank you for all the info . I think my beardie is going into brumation . Going to miss my dragon during brumation but as you stated resist the urge to touch the dragon .
yes it can be a sad time!
I am nervous because my beardie has gone to sleep in the shaded part for over 7 days now. I am not able to tell if she is breathing or not and I dont want to disturb her because apparently that is what I am not suppose to do when they are brumating so I am torn.. I just wanna make sure she is okay
