thanks ! Just for others with this issue, I have purchased both acrylic DRL tubes off Ali express for €110 - My local electrical guy is opening the headlights , cleaning down LEDs and fitting new tubes , so it can be done cheap
@@NoRevving they are coming out very soon , can you let me know what way you went about baking them open ? I’ve heard from some they are “permasealed” - meaning they cannot be opened though heat just prying - is that correct ?
Hello thanks by doing this vídeo. I've seen that exists some fuses that can be related with the DRLs inside the fuse box (F23, F31, F36 & F37), do you know if this can be also a root to the problem or is very unlikelly? My bottom left side DRL looks turned off, the dimming effect looks that comes from the top drl junction, which by what you said in the vídeo I need to buy that chip ... probably is better to replace the full headlight. I like Audi, but this is unnaceptable to me, this headlight new plus working labour costs around 2000 here in Switzerland ... between Audi, Mercedes and BMW from the same year of my car, the Audis are the only brand having this issues, never seen a BMW 1 series or Mercedes A class from same year of mine with the DRLs broken or dimmed. A suggestion for a next vídeo would be how to turn off this bottom/side DRL through the ECU (by VCD or OBD2), not sure if is possible or not, but I've seen one A3 here in Switzerland with them turned off and only the TOP DRLs ON ... it looks better than I would think and is a cheaper alternative to who have OCD problems.
Hello, Both sides for me, one upper and the other side lower now yellow. Thought I was not going to have to bother with blown bulbs any more when I sold my 2006 A3 but now a £1 repair to replace the odd bulb has turned into a £3600 cost to replace both headlamps. Clearly there are faulty components within the headlamps. I have pestered Audi and they are not the slightest bit bothered even though my car was on 35000 miles and not even 4 years old. Audi will only start to take this seriously if enough customers complain. I will not be paying that as the car is still road legal but it may effect the resale value.
U will never get audi to replace this for free. Because it is not a road hazard in the government’s eyes. There’s no road hazard for faulty DRL’s because it’s daylight! Lol. At night your lightbulbs still have to turn on and cops can care less how yellow looking your DRLs are. It’s a cosmetic thing. It’s all part of Audis bs brand to get its customers to spend more money on them. Japanese drls are clear as hell at 100k miles my Mazda 6 grand touring has 120k miles 2016 the drls are still white/blue it’s 2022 going into 2023. U should already know at this range and year an Audi product and basically any European product will need a lot of its plastics replaced. With European cars you pay for the innovative technology in vehicles. With Japanese brands you pay for tested reliability for years to come. Japanese automakers just started to add drls to most of its cars but it seems they have perfected it so their customers don’t run into this issue, eventually I believe they will yellow but I would just buy a new assembly and have them last many years to come again.
The same thing happen to my 17’ S3 6 months ago, It looked like new removing all the burned thing on the tube, but it just last like 4-5 months, I did the same thing to fix it, and again looks good, but now I know this would happen again in the future, I think you need to change the led module to stop this to happen, or I don’t know if it’s a fuse related issue
The lens is glued to the headlight. So you bake it to heat up the glue so you can remove the lens. If you do it right you won’t snap any plastic. There are other videos on youtube on how to bake the headlight.
I am having same issue with my Skoda Superb Mk3 LED DRLs going yellowish on both headlights and since it just a tube i wonder it may well be just the LED module l gone bad. It looks similar to ower LED DRL on your audi. Unfortunately I am little nervous about having some open OEM headlights :(
hi! at 1:54 the white piece you're pointing at, that holds the drl tube in place- what is that piece called? mine broke and I cannot find a replacement anywhere!
BMW also has this problem now.I ve seen a guy on youtube with a whole bucket full of burnt angle eyes plastic tubes from bmw s.Also other car brands have this huge problem now.How to turn off the lower part of the drl on audi a3 through ECU by VCD or obd11 is the only thing that can save alot of people alot of money now,Can someone figure this out quickly and post a video on youtube how?
Hi when they led light goes yellow or yellowing do you get a notification on your dash? Because on my Q7 it’s coming on and off through the drive and it’s very annoying…
thank you so much for making this video audi quotted me $4700 to replace on headlight was trying to figure out how to fix it myself so anoying why did they make it so dificult damn i might have to replace the whole thing theres no way im putting that in the oven
Hi. Do you happen to know the model number for the lower passenger DRL chip. I have the same problem with my 2019 Audi A3 the lights look identical to yours. Was going to purchase a chip without having to take off bumper and open light. This video is much appreciate.
hey boss i have a b9 a4 and the top drl was dimmed then went out but then came back like a month later then went out again so just curious, you say the top on can be fixed. how?
You have to replace the DRL chip and remove the headlight to do so. I’d recommend taking the DRL chip off and make sure to order one that matches exactly. Can find on eBay.
Great video , my a3 2017 top passenger is yellow looks like im going to have to try and do this , audi are a joke its endless problems , if I knew then what I know now I'd not go near one
hi, @ No Revving. just have a question hopefully you can help me out, i have the same issue with the bottom segment of the DRL has failed. I brought another headlight in good condition without the modules and control unit. if I swap my ones onto the donor headlight would it need any coding or alignment of the headlight ? Thank you.
Salve. Grazie.
I have failures on both sides on my 2016 A3 , Audi diagnosed this whi h I paid for, quoted me £2282.....and have called me to say their diagnostic which I paid for incidentally was incorrect and it now wants another headlamp, a total of £3600, please be aware of buying one of these things.....I have seen a number of A3s with this issue, it is utterly criminal .
@@NoRevving let’s be real this is audi/bmw/Mercedes we’re talking about lol. They do not test for longevity and reliability. They innovate and keep on innovating new tech in cars. Wouldn't it be easier to just replace the whole headlight?
@@dontsugarcoat2729 yes it would be, however, there are those that rather not spend $600-1500. So this is an option for those people.
Hello and thanks for the video. Could you tell us how you baked it? How many time and temperature ?

That sucks. Hopefully you get lucky.
How did you baked it? Hao much time and at what temperature? Thanks
right?! I keep looking for this answer!!
Just happened to mine. Pretty sure we can get a recall going on this defect can’t we? Or would that require it to be a safety hazard?
I have the same...
Audi say they cant do anything about it. And that it isnt covered by warranty. Ive literally seen 100s of a3’s, S3’s & RS3’s with dim headlights.
These MFing companies making it so expensive if any of the electronic part goes off. Hate it.
You mention baking the head light to open it, can you elaborate on what part requires heat? Do you end up snapping any plastic?
The lens is glued to the headlight. So you bake it to heat up the glue so you can remove the lens. If you do it right you won’t snap any plastic. There are other videos on youtube on how to bake the headlight.
How long and what temperature did you bake it? And what tools did you use to open it and not tear up the headlight too bad

There’s another controller access panel on the bottom. Isn’t that where the chip is?

We don’t have numbers because we ordered headlights from a wrecked car.
Did you end up disassembling the lights then? Contemplating doing this though it would be nice to find an experienced shop in my area
Nope. I only took apart a spare broken headlight. It was really hard to open it up without damaging it, so I didn’t open up the one on the car.
@@NoRevving yeah I’ve seen other videos of people baking them in the oven but that’s too scary! Turned my DRLs off in MMI free fix! 😂

notice the circuit is glued to a heat sink what glue is used to re-glue the replacement?
We didnt glue. WE just transferred over parts from the "new" unit.
How did you remove the transparent glass from the body to access the DRL LED?
You don’t have to for the upper one. For the lower one you have to bake the headlight.

No idea. If the bottom one is out completely, you prob need a new DRL chip.
@1:33 what is the part no. of that chip in your hand ?
We’ve seen different ones. Recommend taking the headlight out to look at the one in there and get that part number.
