Come Monday, which fast food workers get raised to $20 an hour?

- As of Monday, a new law mandating $20 hourly wages for fast-food workers goes into effect. That will give many low-income workers a big boost in pay they otherwise would not have gotten. But there are exceptions.

The real minimum wage is $0. Those that get laid off or hours reduced will discover that quickly.
I cook my food due to rising cost and mediocre food quality. Good luck guys.
Me too!
If you voted Gavin Newsom and you're complaining about the high cost of living. Just know it's your fault!
You're right brother! Paying Americans living wages is Socialism. We need to keep letting the job creators se the wages that are best of quarterly profit margins or stocks prices. The US economy depends on it.
I live in Raleigh Durham, NC and cost of living is high here also
@@who2u333 You need to learn what you are talking about before just posting meaningless nonsense here.
The current governor cheated to get elected just as recalls.
@@who2u333 When the poor and lower middle class folks can't afford fast food, you're going to complain again.
Let’s see what the unintended consequences going to be when politicians with narrow scope mess with the law of free market of supply and demand.
Next step, Newsom will require you to eat minimum $100 of fast food per month to pay fast food workers $20 bucks an hour to flip burgers.
Expect to pay $10 for a Big Mac and $20 for pizza soon. It is called raising minimum inflation.
@@malin7919Pizza hut already charges 20 for delivery pizza in the midwest.
so how many workers will lose their jobs this year and how fast will these restaurants soon push and upgrade their human employees with cheaper robots and computers?
40% of white collar jobs will be eliminated once companies star using AI. so they will go on government benifits next.
A lot of people are going to lose their jobs to automation because of this. You want to make better pay. Learn a skill. People will stop eating at fast food places
How dare you use your common sense. This is California, we make our decisions by whether or not it feels good. . 🤣
Giving “April Fools” a whole new meaning 😅
🤣😂😆😅
Your title should read come Monday who gets a raise to $20 per hour and who gets a notice of termination.
Funny how all the grocery stores raised prices but not wages.
Come Monday alot of people are going to be out of a Job...
Politicians never think about the consequences of their actions and have just knee jerk solutions to issues.
Also going up with minimum wage is unemployment in April!
Great way to helps fight obesity 😂
What's not sustainable will not survive.
Exciting changes and times we are in!
This is democrats punishing companies they don’t like .
we're gonna punish you by making you pay your employees some what better....
@@MichaelHemotoxinNot only the employers, the employees as well. It goes in circles. Ultimately it affects those who are on retired fixed income. You want to have more people working not less. Unless you are those who are depending on government handouts. Are you one of them ?
@@MichaelHemotoxin You mean they are going to try to punish employers, but thanks to the Law of Unintended Consequences, you will just get workers laid off instead. The morons who supported this nonsense just pushed things to the point where automation is much more feasible, the companies can pay for the machines on installment with the labor savings.
@@MichaelHemotoxin you're a clown, this will increase inflation and the cost will be passed on to us.
It's cheaper to put in robots. They only cost $10,000.
Robots cost way more than that, but they are still far more of a value than most people realize. A machine that can do the work of two people can effectively replace 4 of them since machines aren't limited to a single shift. If you figure with that $20/hour wage that there's another $5/cost due to payroll, unemployment insurance, worker's comp etc. than a full time employee will cost close to $50K/year. My 2-person machine can reduce labor costs by $200K/year, so even with other expenses, it will pay for itself in about 3 years.
@@eastbaykidd8574 Just saw another video where they said a robot would cost the business about $7.50 an hour.
What fools, what they don't understand is that their hours will be cut people will be laid off and us taxpayers that are paying for this are going to pay more per visit come if we decide to keep visiting
i like how you show in n out they already pay over 20 an hour. the one here you start at 25hr
That's better than paying overtime
I remember when I made $6.25/hr in my first job at McDonald’s in March 2001. That is worth at least $11/hr after taking inflation into account but many fast food jobs pay a paltry $8.25 to $9/hr which is just sad 😔. Cost of living has really taken off.
FGN
I make 26 an hour in the office. bart ticket, sometime buy lunch, and bring lunch from home. after time tax 15. SAD
Took me 27 years to get to 20 an hour 12 years ago . Retired now but it's way prices gave gotten
I remember when I was in high school. High school students were working at Mac Donald but not adult are taking that position and are making it as a career. We all are paying the price of these workers.
Why dont the state exempt fastfood workers from paying income tax instead?
Why not exempt retired military?
@@danmilosevich im with you on that
California should stop the income tax like Florida, Texas, and Washington!
Don't forget about Tennessee...
California has to tax the hell out of everything... So Sunshine and Air tax will be added to everything....
The whole problem in California is government power and out of touch soulless politicians who constantly have the next bad ideas .
@@justsayingforafriend7010 California needs to tax everyone so that illegal aliens can get free services.
So this isn't really a minimum wage increase because it's not across the board. The fast-food industry will now hire less employees while loosing customers.
$20 minimum wage equals to increase in cost of everything = inflation. Making $20 is the same as making $16 when your groceries goes up $32 to $40. 😅 But yeah this is going to destroy the economy. Great Depression here we go. Groceries, gas, everything is going up again.
I know annoying
Get ready for the $20 Biden Burger
And if people are ignorant enough to vote him in again, it will be a 50 or 100 dollar Biden burger.
Yeah more problem with inflation.
Full time fast food jobs are rare.
Even if you do land a full time fast food job where you risk the chance of getting shot for overtime, you’re still only clearing $40K a year 😬🤡
We can't control our spending. we clearly don't understand economics. we make it harder for the ones following the rules, and yet we control how you live! -Democrats
What does it matter if the business bakes bread? That is a very o dd exception.
Especially when it doesn't include bagels, donuts or cookies.
My only option for now is Costco's hot dog combo for $1.50 plus tax.
Wait. Costco now check the membership cards
Costco lines are always long tables are always taken.
Silver spoon politicians that never had a real job should not interfere in economics in any way
Another scam from the gruesome
This news is funnier than SNL...The stories are a joke.. Oakland is a mess, change the airport name ?Enough journalism from the left coast.
Mcds no.1 is about to be 25 dollars 😂😂😂
They will have a real April Fools.
All about jacking up home prices even more.
Expect more places closing. Tax revenue goes with it.
This will be a disaster.
Why?
@@PraveenSriram Because many people will lose their jobs.
Downfall 😂😂😂😂, Yeah
Close baby close no more fast food restaurants in California and that's karma.
Alot of food stamps

$16 Dollars a Hour is nothing. You Need At Least $140,000.00 a year just to live in California.. LOL
Please give me some post how many get laid off in the next three months so we can see how great your minimum wage is working here in the midwest!! America First
Remember Self served Kiosks post pandemic were introduced. Automation and Robotics will the new norm in fast food industry. There will no more fast food workers, but "operators." Haha .. you're fired..
You need 80 bucks a hour to keep your head above the water in the Bay Area.
20 dollars isn't even a drop in the bucket.
80?????
annual household income is around 100,000 and induvial is around 80,000 in SanFrancisco and these are numbers directly from the US Census, i love people like you who just make up random numbers
If you're trying to support yourself on fast food in the Bay Area, you need to move somewhere a lot cheaper.
I'm on equivalent of 11 an hour on S.S. in MS . With Hud income based housing I pay only 25 % of income . I feel for young people that have to go it alone on everything . I'm old benefit from the past
McDonald’s should leave Commiefornia!
I wonder if there will be a new leveling out. As they raise prices causing fewer people to eat fast food and move towards automation, I'm sure they will justify laying off or pushing out as many employees as possible, so the remaining employees will end up working harder to absorb to work that has to be done. They will make more, but they will be overworked and understaffed. And I'm sure they won't have tons of job openings for people to just shift to working in fast food from their lower paying jobs. These places are going to have to go crazy minimizing overhead and maximizing profit while trying to stay "afforable." It stopped being fast a long time ago. And some places its questionable if its ecen "food." I'm most curious to see what happens with In N Out. They always paid pretty well and kept their prices low.
In-n-Out will raise their prices accordingly otherwise they'd be leaving money "on the table"
@markdc1145 exactly, the prices are going to double double!
The bread rule does not apply to Subway sandwiches and probably panera. It says excluded from the minimum wage hike if they bake their own bread and sell that bread separately. The only example I can think of at this time is Boudin's. Also, never been in a Panera bread so I wouldn't know. Otherwise, those pizza places should switch out breadsticks for garlic bread or bread loaves. But it should include bagels, donuts, and cookies, but doesn't... - Paris Baguette sells bread but not qualifying bread under the dumb rule.
Everyone who works deserves a living wage. You don't prune roots, you prune the branches on top that have grown wild because they get too much sun and block the others below them.
No profit; no job. If a worker produces $15/hour in productivity, but the minimum wage is $20/hour, that worker will be terminated. If the minimum wage is $10/hour, then that worker's $15/hour of productivity will produce $5 of gain for the company. If you want jobs, then make sure that the company gets profit. No profit; no jobs.
The feds calculate Inflation by the price of Commodities at the wholesale market . When Inflation happens The US Dollar is loosing it's value and EVERYTHING MUST RISE including The cost of labor , Big Business does not like this because they see Inflation as an opportunity for profit growth . When Inflation happens if wages don't rise it throws the economy out of balance ( that is what is going on now ) . Big Business protects themselves by raising prices and expects The Middle Class and people At or Below Poverty level to take The Financial Hit so their Profit Margins can continue to rise , but if people don't have money they can't spend money and then The Economy suffers . Most Financial Experts will agree that a single person working a non-college degree job full-time should not be paying more than 30$ of their take-home pay towards housing and bills , this formula puts you right at Poverty Level . Why should the worker be expected to work their whole lives and just survive , might as well call it Legal Slavery . THINK ABOUT IT PEOPLE . If cost of living rises by 28% than so should wages or else what is really happening is you are taking a CUT IN PAY .
Just avoid them. Make your own food.
The minimum wage for any worker, fast food or not, should be at least $20. And by the end of 2025, that should be increased to $25 per hour. It is way too expensive to eat out, buy food, pay rent, or just take Uber somewhere. Places like McDonalds, Safeway, and Uber and Lyft can pay a lot more to their employees while still making a huge profit. As for housing costs, the AirBnB investors and landlords are charging the maximum amounts they can and artificially driving up housing costs - all in the pursuit of driving German luxury cars or Teslas. 2 percent of people are feeding off the 98 percent. Our political leaders need to tax the savings accounts of the rich, raise property taxes on landlords, increase gas tax, and eliminate tax deductions. The rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer.
Jimmy Carter once said that it was wrong for businessmen to write-off $50 lunches while a construction worker can't write off a $5 sandwich. He was dead right. And BTW, that sandwich now costs $15 and the business owners are writing off $600 lunches. Newsom is right to raise the California minimum wage, Alexandria Cortez is right to cut off tax incentives to companies like Amazon, and Biden-Harris are right to forgive student loans for poor kids.
You spent all that time writing that BS, lol... Think about what you are saying... you must have got an f in economics 😅
garbage Commie propaganda
Just make it $1000 per hour, then everyone will easily be able to buy everything.
If a worker produces $15/hour of productivity, but the minimum wage is $20, that worker will lose his job. No profit; no jobs.
People like you who are ignorant of basic economics are the real problem in this country.
Too bad! I’m no longer buying shitty ass Fast food 🤢
So $5 gas is ok but paying the employees that have to pay those prices is the problem 😂😂😂😂😂
