It's not just the frustration of having to navigate the kiosk system and make all of your choices....it's the fact you have to touch something that every slob in the county has touched just after they picked their noses and scratched their asses.

I've stopped patronizing any businesses that do not accept cash. I get very annoyed when I go to a WalMart checkout, ring up all my items, and then get informed that the machine does not take cash and was not informed beforehand by signs or verbally of that fact. Last time this happened to me I had a bunch of frozen food items, nearly a full cartload, over $400 worth. I didn't have my cards with me, and I wasn't going to go back to my house 25 miles away to retrieve them. I had cash in hand. When I looked around for assistance and finally got the attention of an employee she couldn't help me, so she called down her manager, and that took way longer than I wanted to wait. When the manager arrived she informed me that I would have to take my items to another machine and rescan all of it. I was pissed and informed her that WalMart doesn't pay me to do that and that they could just keep it. She got mad and stated that I needed to return the items. I rebuffed her by again stating that I'm not a WalMart employee, and apparently WalMart doesn't really want me as a customer either. Then I just walked away. Screw WalMart.
Walmart has started closing their serf-serve registers due to theft. People put 20 items in their basket and ring up the 10 cheapest items. Now it's back to standing in line for 20 minutes or don't shop there. It's always the lowlifes who phuck it up for everyone else.

They had a sales counter with registers but nobody working them. When I inquired of how to place my order, they told me I needed to use the mobile app or the kiosk. I asked them, but what if I’m paying cash. They asked me why? Don’t you have a credit card. I told them no, and they basically told me I was out of luck. I turned around and walked out and I will never go back again. Later on I heard the food was awful anyways. So I really didn’t miss anything.

I'm in Vt. Never went to McDonald's slot, but several years ago I went & they had gone to kiosk ordering. I said "forget it" & I've never gone back. From what I hear about prices of fast-food, I probably can't afford it now anyhow.
I rarely eat at McDonalds. Recently my wife was in a hospital for the day (outpatient). The hospital cafeteria was closed. So, I went across the street to a McDonalds. There was nobody at the counter. There were 4 kiosks waiting for my input. Well, I went through the learning process of dealing with their user interface. I finished inputting my order and was ready to pay. There was no way to get a total or a way to complete the transaction. I fiddled around with the kiosk for several minutes trying to complete the transaction. No luck. An employee saw me and offered to take my order. I complained about the kiosk and he just shrugged his shoulders and said "yep...I know". So, I placed my order with the human and assumed I was making progress. Nope! His register ran out of receipt paper. So he disappeared for several minutes while hunting down a roll of receipt paper. Needless to say, I won't be going back to McDonalds unless there are no other choices.
I went to a McDonalds outside of Waterville Ohio and had problems using their kiosks. I hit the help button three times, each time all three managers would turn around and look, BUT NOT ONE CAME TO HELP ME.
I’m glad I grew up in a time when McDonalds was a kid / family oriented restaurant. The food, service and prices were good. Ronald McDonalds and his friends, Happy Meals that had the best toys, and McDonald’s Playland were kids had their birthday parties.
We stopped eating at McDonalds because of the self-service kiosks. They're horrible. And the "live workers" at the counter often don't want to be bothered (although I' sure that's NOT McDonald's policy) and direct you to the kiosks...
If you have a bachelors in Micro Bio, realize that there are 8yr olds out there that have PhD's in Smartphones, they can probably unlock the secret menu of McDonalds from those Kiosks.
what does microbiology have to do with pushing buttons on a kiosk ?? Just a whiner man. Pushing buttons is a minor skill quickly learned with a bit of practice. It's coming soon all over I bet. Helps keep restaurants from getting robbed, too, no cash on hand.
I've heard this commonly used as a warning about the chaos resulting from machines breaking down. So do irresponsible fast food workers. I'd trust a machine over a pimply teenager any day.
Here in the Philippines as soon as there is a problem with the kiosks, they turn them off, sometimes remove them. They are not going to pay for the required maintenance ha ha 😎
This is Newsomes fault. When you have to pay fast food workers $20 an hour. The options are to raise prices even more or lay off employees and replace with something automated and or both. All cover the cost of a huge wage increase in a state that the cost of everything is ridiculous.
A college degree in a scientific field (might) typically indicate familiarity with modern technology (to include the menus and touchscreens in a kiosk). Likewise, a video gamer, or Kindle e-reader, would probably have the same type of adeptness.
of course there will be exceptions and outliers, but if you look at broad statistics, college graduates on average have higher EQ/IQ and overall problem solving skills than high school dropouts. pursuing a college degree also shows grit and motivation to achieve goals, which is also a form of intelligence.

We have plenty of much better options with much better food where I live. Almost every area that I work in has an awesome lunch/dinner spot for around the same price, so the idea of stopping at a fast food joint really never registers come lunch time. Plus those places take cash or card, have good people working there, and a friendly atmosphere goes a long way. I’ve met quite a few clients just from hanging around restaurants and stores like that.
I stopped using those things long ago. Turns out that sometimes the order number they print out, is not the same one the employees receive. You're waiting around, meanwhile your number was called long ago. I always just walk up to the register to order and pay.
McDONALDS IS ALWAYS INNOVATING TO OFFER CUSTOMERS A CONVENIENT EXPERIENCE. Ok? How about having a cashier at all times, where that is their only job, who can not only count, but can read, write, speak, and understand English? I find it CRAZY customers are even demanding this. Should be the foundation of any business.
1. No one wants to work fast food jobs. Turn over is always very high as people just take Fast food jobs as a stop gap job while looking for a better job, or its just a part time job. Takes time to train a cashier 2. I am sure they could retain a cashier, but would you be willing to pay a $10 service fee for using a cashier? or Would you prefer to add on another $3 to $8 for the cost of meals? (cost to pay for the workers wages, training, workers comp, taxes, etc)
I haven't been to a fast food place in years. I last went to a Wendy's several years ago. The guy behind the counter didn't speak English. He had to have someone come over and translate for him. Then that person just took over and finished ringing up our order while the guy stood there. Everyone there was speaking a language other than English. Whatever it was, they were all speaking it. It sounded like Hindi, but I am guessing. This was a first for me. And a last, since I haven't been back there since.
It’s easy enough to fix - if you don’t see a person to take your order, leave, and tell them why if you have the chance. I refuse to use the drive through, my order is never right when I do that. If somebody doesn’t want to take my order when I go inside, they don’t get my business, simple as that. There’s always another place to eat that actually wants your business a mile down the road, or sometimes even next door or across the street.
I'm with you brother , I'm stuck in the 70's . I just want my big Mac with no pickels and no lettuce . You shouldn't have to be an IT guy to order it .
I don't go inside McDonald's because it's always horrible. The one time I tried to order the machine wouldn't recognize my fingers. The manager came out and had to touch screen so it would work. Then the machine couldn't make a special order so he yelled it to the cook. McDonald's makes ALOT of extra money not having people inside, no refills, no bathroom use, no condiments, no extra cleaning. I'd don't see anything getting better for these mega old time fast food places anymore. Just go to small startups for better food and service.
The last few times I used to self check out at Walmart I made sure the screen was not displaying card only but the bill acceptor broke on me and the cleack put it in card only mode and sent me to another machine.

Getting rid of a cash system is scary. Digital currency will allow people to completely track every purchase you make and potentially turn off your ability to spend in certain ways or at certain stores. I believe technology isn’t bad, but the people creating and controlling it can be bad.
This seems to be a common misperception. While there has been legislation introduced in some jurisdictions to mandate all businesses accept cash, it's not the law, nor should it be.
@@sadjaxxand they factor that into the price. The egregious part is that some businesses like gas stations actually charge card users much more, even without this risk. So you're paying your own interchange fee AND saving the business cash handling costs

They have had them in our area in the Midwest for at least 6 years, I used it once as it was not intuitive and took what I felt was too long to place an order. Most cashiers are well versed in the screens for items and can place my order faster than I can. Let's be honest, if I wanted to use a screen to place an order, I would get the companies app. Also, people tend to shy away from the in person, social interactions of society, which I hear a lot being blamed on "anxiety" or "nervousness" or worse, the age old leaned on "adhd"

No interest in returning. See videos saying the food there is very expensive now too.
Their kiosks aren't that difficult to use. As for the layout and order flow, that's intentional to add some friction to encourage the customer to order more. Many McDs will allow the customer to order with a person if they ask. Many don't know that or don't want to wait for an employee.
All you can really do is let your dollars talk for you & stop giving business to places that don't meet your expected standards for whatever reason(s).
Good. You don't have to return your merch. They are called "go backs"
good luck surviving in this century...
If I do self checkout and the price is wrong, I cancel the item and hide it behind the machine.

The McDonalds in my area just did a reconstruction to when you walk in, you no longer see employees at all.. you see the kiosks, tables, and a small opening where employees can walk in and out. Uh yeah, I turned around and not coming back from this abandoned looking picnic area.
That's so no one sees the employees picking their nose while they make the burgers.

@edstryker7745 Good. McDonald's doesn't need whiners.
Recently a “Shake Shack” opened near me and I decided to see what the hype was about. Upon entering there was a sign directing you to order through the kiosk.
If I cannot use cash I move on to the next business that will accept it….. It’s a lost customer for them. 🤣🤣
It's actually a gain for them. Cashless restaurants are more efficient and cleaner. I support your right to choose restaurants that take cash. You and I can simply eat at different restaurants, and the free market will satisfy both of us.

I figure I’m risking my life every time I eat fast food, so ehh!
I'm in Vt. Never went to McDonald's slot, but several years ago I went & they had gone to kiosk ordering. I said "forget it" & I've never gone back. From what I hear about prices of fast-food, I probably can't afford it now anyhow.
Yes, the prices are very high now but why would a kiosk make you say, "forget it"?
Um, you live in VT and you were even considering McD? Eat some real food.
I went into a Mickey D's for a cup of coffee but there was no one at the counter and a line for the kiosk. Turned around and walked out.
I walked out when I saw the counter was closed. Subway still has humans to make the sandwiches at least. I went there that day.

1. No one wants to work fast food jobs. Turn over is always very high as people just take Fast food jobs as a stop gap job while looking for a better job, or its just a part time job. Takes time to train a cashier

It’s simple, I just don’t go to places that only have kiosks.
Exactly. Just stop shopping at these places in the first place and most of these problems will never affect you.

Same!
Had to use one of these in Virginia…..was not really wanting to use a credit card so I placed the order and never received the receipt or a number to pick up my order. So I went to the one person behind the counter and explained the situation and he wanted to charge me again and I said no…..either the kiosk is out of paper in the printer or you need to check back there where the orders are being prepared and make sure my food that I paid for is being prepared and that I had already paid for it. He seemed confused but did check and saw I had paid and my food was being prepared.
I love kiosks!
I don't even use them
I love them
I've been in retail for 20 years. I'm glad kiosks are coming in.
Done are the days of narcissistic and rude customers and employees.
What did you think a $20 minimum wage was going to lead to? 😂
why go through the Drive-Thru.. they make you park and wait for your food that's terrible and looks like a toddler put it together.
that McDonalds is to rich for my blood I am running around barefoot eating beans for the last 3 years no way I could afford a 20 dollar hamburger and fry. hard hard times on the way.
But you can afford a phone.
@TheManDownstairs13 you have to have a phone to do anything nowadays!
I had to give up my phone 3 years ago I got my computer at the flee market for 15 dollars and in a few more weeks I will be living in my car 4 years ago I was living high on the hog man do I ever miss trump I will be the first person in line to vote for him that is for sure I like to live the good life this Biden hard way of living is not for me I am a American I like to live like a American and in 9 more months I will be living like a American again trump always puts Americans first and I am all for that.@@TheManDownstairs13
@@chrisvaughn5960I actually only got my first phone one year ago and I'm 36 I just hate people and don't want any calling me I ignore it most the time too many scam callers
Calvin, stop buying and eating that poison!
Bachelor degree in microbiology 😂 no wonder she can’t figure out how to use a kiosk
A degree in theology or philosophy wouldn't even allow you how to figure out how to open the entrance door in to McDonald's
He's lying when he says he doesn't eat fast food that often. Look at that GUT 🤣
I eat fast food all the time and I'm not fat. It's not what you eat, it's how much you eat, unless you eat raw vegan than you couldn't get fat if you tried, you simply just lose the desire to be hungry and it digests in a few hours unlike meat which can take nearly a day to digest for some people.
And honestly you look fatter than me by a long shot, even with just your face showing I can easily tell lol
@@jimmypeeps8471my brother and his wife used to claim they were vegetarians because they thought it was trendy and they loved telling people they were vegetarians yet they both weighed 250+ pounds. They must have been eating a lot of french fries 🤣
Blame the $20 minimum wage
Not sure why showing b-roll of a 20-year-old menu was relevant, but, okay. On topic though, it's not just McD's, all the fast food joints and the grocery stores are resorting to self-serve kiosks/lanes. I went to Taco Bell in my area one time wanting to actually order at the register, and the employees were just kind of hanging back and acting like they didn't see me hoping I would just turn around and use the kisks behind me. I wanted to get their opinion about something new and I was paying with cash.
My first job, McD's from 1974-1976. We didn't have ANY of this crap to deal with. The food was better, the people working there were better... no Idiots. Five registers open, orders taken on paper menu pads, REAL mixed milkshakes. No Breakfast, no playgrounds, no Happy Meals. The way it was is gone forever!
Just dont go to mcdonalds anymore
Makes you wonder how long this guy was away from McDonald's. Kiosks been around for years now.
0:45 '2001 Burgers' at the top of the menu
Listem to the story....I rarely eat there , only as a last resort, I despise that place
These self kiosk companies must pay the customers at least a 20% discount because the customers become official temporary employees by punching an the order on a restaurant owned kiosk. Have some integrity kiosk restaurants!!!
Mcdonalds has a 20% deal on everything in the app, but I already know how you feel about apps
Nobody said McDonalds was well Managed ...
Due to work I'm in Prague at the moment and I've been surprised at the number of businesses who have a sign on the door that says, in several languages, "CASH ONLY."
This place is going the opposite of everywhere else.
Meh, I’ll just cook at home.😂😂😂
It's been so long since I ate fast food, I can't imagine them taking anything but cash.
I see kiosks or only self check out..I take my business elsewhere; I didn't come to work. - a millennial.
No difference than working a computer or smart phone

Putting people out of work to increase the profits of corporations.
I don’t eat McCrap anymore anyway.
Would once in awhile indulge in the McDouble
But I’d rather pay a little more for real food at In-n-out. Where they pay their employees decent money and no yoga mat material in the buns
Went to Walmart last week. They had about a dozen self service kiosks with available green lights with a long growing line.
Instead, the worker was yelling directions about getting into some sort of imaginary line where you didn’t know where it started, or where it ended…all while someone was distracting her and asking her where the toilet paper was. Total chaos.
I went to the full service checkout instead and it was actually faster.
we don't care 😂
Why are you old people all the same

@@invalidaccount2315That isn't saying much.

When self service gas pumps came about 30 (or so) years ago at first I was frustrated. Eventually I accepted the fact that I didn’t miss interaction with the person at the register who more than likely hated their job and couldn’t give directions to some location 5 blocks away. Now it’s only a small minority of the population that even remembers having someone who pumped your gas (except in Oregon?) or you had to walk inside to pay. Eventually we won’t have to interact with anyone in the general public.
Technology should help assist , not replace.
Lol why "should" that be the case? If replacing you is more profitable than why shouldn't they? Because you don't benefit from their endeavors lol?
I refuse to use those kiosk or any self checkout. They should be handing you a check if you do
Was this even news worthy?
Absolutely. People need to fight back against this kind of thing. Had I been that guy, I would have just left.
