I have just realised that when this was aired in 1989 it was 28 years since Helen became a star. And now another 28 years has passed in the blink of an eye. It does bring home how short life is. Helen is 70 now. Karen Keating was a beautiful looking girl, what a shame she was taken so young.
In this live cut, you can tell the voice is still absolutely on the money. She didn't need autotuning or overproduction unlike most of today's artists. (I think the original was double-tracked though). And Helen's a charmer--so natural on stage! The styles of the 1980s weren't kind to most, and she even jokes about her outfit around 5:05.
Saw Helen Shapiro at Prestatyn Wales on holiday the show was full of groups of the day me an future husband went to show we wasn't much older than Helen .it was a very good rock and roll night ❤
man what a cute woman helen is. she looked much better than all those other girls put together. shs got a beautiful fugure! make some more music dear! a fan in peru!
Fun fact: When my (Spanish) mother was in London studying English and working, they stopped her on the street to ask for autographs and take pictures with her because they confused her with Helen Shapiro. They were also of a similar age. When young, she was so much like her that they looked like 100% twin sisters! In fact my mother has a portrait from those same years that is almost identical to the cover of several of Helen's albums. Also my mother had the same hairstyle (because it was a fashion at that time) and she had a very similar jacket, so the confusion was total! Really, they were like two drops of water! 😂
Eddie Parker boy o boy I remember this back in my teen years out joy rideing with my girl such a upbeat song her voice is so unique sweet wow 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🌹😍💐❤️💕🇺🇸
On this day in 1962 {Oct. 28th} Helen Shapiro performed "I Don't Care" on the CBS-TV program 'The Ed Sullivan Show' It did not make the charts in the USA; her only hit in America was "Walkin' Back To Happiness" in 1961, it stayed on the Top 100 for 1 week at position #100 In her native England she had 11 charted records between 1961 and 1967, with two reaching #1 {"You Don't Know" & "Walkin' Back To Happiness" in 1961} Ms. Shapiro celebrated her 67th birthday exactly one month ago on Sept. 28th
Helen is a true gem. I just received her ultimate CD collection from the UK of about 90 songs. The irony of this clip is that these 80s kids are being nostalgic about the 60s and now we can be nostalgic about the 80s.
I've just seen '60s clips of Helen up till now. And here, she has a completely '80s appearance, just as she first had a really typical '60s look, especially with her eye makeup and bouffant hair then.
But it was an awful hairstyle given to her for a young teenager. My mother had a similar style but she was in her mid 30s back then, not a 16 year old.
@@harrodsfan Not really awful; it was very fashionable at the time. And Helen's unusually deep and mature-sounding voice made it more reasonable to make her look like an adult instead of an adolescent, which she actually was.
I met Helen 7th May 2022, at a HEBRON concert. I'd have loved to get video footage and photos, but I had to respect the churches no photography policy. As a 23 year old fan she was so eager to meet me and learn how I discovered her music, we sat and talked one to one discussing mutual musical interests, Jazz, etc. I mentioned Empty House being one of my favourites, it was a wonderful evening. To this day she still has the strong voice and wonderful sense of humour.
So pleasantly lively .vivacious and just everrything good about what goes on the stage...THANKS....I still have Helen's 45rpm including the numbers she sings here. I am 64 !
Warning, geezer mumblings ahead. In 1961 when I was 14 I was already bicycling a bit on my Raleigh Dawes Diploma (my Dad talked me into, durable & sturdy, instead of the Lenton Grand Prix drop bars racer) and went Acton to Slough on the A4 to visit Uncle Ginger & cousins for a ride. Stopped on the ride home at a cafe for thick slices of buttered toast & mugs of tea for a Bob. Jukebox had Del Shannon Runaway & Helen Shapiro. I clearly remember Del Shannon Runaway but Helen Shapiro's has slipped my mind over 62 years, whatever song she had in 1961 is what it was.

Very well said.
what beautiful legs Helen Shapiro has ... she is a beautiful woman.
Wow ! she looks even better in 89 than she did in the 60's.
Wot a good looking woman
She has much more colour in 1989. In the 60s she looked a bit grey.
Walking back to happiness with Jesus Christ. Praise God oh yeah yeah.
She aged gracefully. THE voice is still the same. She was awesome and still is.
Still beautiful and a voice to match. 1989 she was still great, 2018, still waiting for more music Helen.
In 1962 i didn't rate this girl at all. What AN IDIOT i was, probably still am. Sorry Helen, i AM ashamed. You're great , and ALWAYS have been .
@hopporules
Sorry i meant Caron Keating who died in 2004.
Beaut gal ! Super voice, super legz :P
Lovely Karen. Died too young. ;-(
Super performance from Helen but she deserves better accompaniment which is pretty dire.
Yep. I could have done better with my tin whistle and my Jack Russell
Totally surreal, she deserved a Blue Peter Badge for this!
Lovely lovely lovely that’s all I can say .Missed all these oldies. Bring back sweet memories. Sadly can’t turn back times.
Saw Helen Shapiro at Prestatyn Wales on holiday the show was full of groups of the day me an future husband went to show we wasn't much older than Helen .it was a very good rock and roll night ❤
What a voice, you can tell she's having fun. Lets see if any of todays so-called superstars are still around in 40 years.
la voix n'a jamais changé....toujours aussi chaude
Helen shapiro dream queen of the sixties
In a certain, almost imperceptible way, I think a lot of us look (or looked) better at 40 than we did at 20. !!! ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️
what a fantastic person... and singer
Not many people have topped the bill ahead of The Beatles
That's a fine looking woman
John Leslie is dressed as a homosexual of the time.

The late, great Amy Winehouse channelled Helen Shapiro.

"it seemed the 60's might be coming back into fashion...". Did it ever go out of fashion?
Was the year on a trip down to happiness and Ibiza.
היא מתבגרת נהדר ויש לה קול שהוא הרבה יותר גדול מהשירים שלה.
Was that dog safe with him ?

There were so many 60s songs that were popular in the 80s. "Silence is golden", was another song that was popular in the 60s and the 80s
Never heard of her until now …
I envy anybody who is hearing Helen Shapiro for the first time.
Beautiful woman
How very Jewish can she be !!
@scarypowers
No, she is English.
Her passport says she's British, a British Jew, G-d bless her...
She is soooo good
She looks and talks like Cliff Richard. Lovely lady.
