- Chukudu is a vehicle that plays a significant role in the daily life of the Congolese community, where 3 out of 4 people live on less than $1.90 per day. Therefore, to save on expenses, the Congolese community created Chukudu as an extremely economical vehicle since it does not require fuel. This vehicle has proven to help many people overcome transportation challenges and facilitate trade and distribution of goods.

Im an 83 years ol Brit engineer. Lived and worked in 6 different sub Saharan Agrican countries from 1969 to 1995 working in small industries development.
Whilst making these scooters is innovative its not development. They use high tech rolling element bearings but crude wood structure.
After 1995 I went to work in Cambodia from 1998 to 2018. Small industries development in Cambodia of that 20 year period has been amazing.

I personally respect those who fight for their families,Hopefully Congo can become an even more developed country.
Sad. The West has sent 1.5 Trillion in funds to Africa, and I think its the only reason that any modern equipment and roads even exist. The chukudu is the level of technology that would otherwise exist without such massive donations to the region. Their best hope is for Chinese empire building that they would take over and run the country for them and give them jobs they can do.

They use a special hardwood that is better than steel. Only they should use a machine to make the wheels 100% round. Of course, when one billion African people want scooters made out of hardwood all these rare trees will be immediately extinct.

The sturdiness, versatility, practicality, price and availability of materials needed to build it, and the low count of parts, and the low skills and simple tools needed to build it, all add up to a very efficient solution to the issue of transportation in a poor but resourceful country.

Not even a motorbike can carry 800 kilo whereas this bike can carry 800+ kilo with just a wooden structure
A motorbike can go up an incline though.
60-100 bucks for something that was made in 1-3 days.
For that u get a nice looking sturdy second hand bike out of metal.
i wonder how often such a wooden bike breaks down or causes an accident.
