If you're looking for Milk Tea bubble tea, the more authentic kind,
    Use:
    1. Black Tapioca Pearls
    2. Use Specifically Black Tea
    3. Don't ever used crushed ice, use normal cube ice.
    4. For the milk, use Condensed Milk or Evaporated Milk(Fresh Milk should work fine too)
    Tips:
For taste in your pearls, dip your pearls in a sweet solution, honey is the best so far.
When scooping pearls into your cup, add the sweet solution in too for sweetness. If using Condensed milk, try to reduce as Condensed milk contains sugar as well.

Here's how we make our bubble tea in Taiwan:
    1. The water must be boiling hot and you have to cook the peals all the way through, then soak those cooked pearls in demerara sugar (brown sugar) water, and simmer those cooked pearls with the sugar water for at least 2 hours (while simmering, stir constantly). After simmering for 2 hr, the sugar water will become thick, and the pearls will absorb the sweetness from the sugar water. (That is the secret to make your pearls taste delicious).
I'm surprised to see those colorful pearls, because in Taiwan, I seldom find bubble tea with colored pearls, but only black pearls.
    2. There is bubble tea using green tea in Taiwan, but originally, bubble tea is made with black tea (darjeeling or assam, or you can mix them together).
    3. We don't use milk, but coffee creamer powder. Put about 1 tablespoon (or 1 and 1/2 tablespoons, depending on your taste) of coffee creamer powder, 15 to 35 ml (depending on your taste) of liquid sugar and about 50 ml of hot black tea in your shaker, stir everything with a coffee stirrer until the powder dissolves.
    4. Add ice cubes (15 to 20 cubes, approximately) in your shaker, then pour in about 200 ml of hot black tea, then you start to shake, just like how you make a cocktail. Since you'll use the ice cubes to make iced milk tea, make sure you make your black tea rather strong, or the flavor will be diluted.
    5. Put some pearls that you made from step 1 in a glass cup, and pour the milk tea (with the remaining ice cubes) inside the shaker into the cup.
You can also put some iced milk (with 5 to 6 ice cubes) in the glass cup, add about 2 tablespoons of those cooked pearls from step 1, and 1 or 2 tablespoons of the sugar water, then stir before enjoying your drink. In this variation, tea is not needed.

luciachen0916 I just came back from two weeks in Kaohsiung and got totallly addicted to bubble tea, though I had it lots of times in California and even here in Paris, but in Taiwan, bubble tea cafés are EVERYWHERE!! And they give you soooo many tapioca pearls, in Paris, I got only 10 pearls in my tea! Can you imagine?! Even found a few places this summer in Madrid that had realllly delish bubble tea! I know it was created in Taiwan!! You guys are GREATTTTT!! Loved the country and the people!

The ones he used are a quick cooking variety of boba pearls. The cook in like ten minutes and well they can't soak for 2 hours because they'll start to get hard in the center. At most they could soak for ten minutes but that's the kind he's using

Brilliant video! :) Just a few tips: if you add sweetened condensed milk, it makes the tea nice and creamy and sweet! And if you soak the tapioca pearls in some simple syrup (could even flavour it with vanilla/rose water if you want) then they taste even better! Thanks for the video! :D

I migrated to Asia and living here for 10 years.. I'm 15 this year and in the country I'm living in, Bubble Tea is VERY popular among the locals. Bubble Tea here can be both cheap and expensive, depends on where you go to buy. Like how coffee at Starbucks is expensive compared to the coffee at a local cheap cafes , same for bubble tea. Local drink stalls sell bubble tea cheaper compared to Gong Cha or Koi (names of Branded bubble tea sellers) Bubble Tea comes in various Flavours but i usually get it with chocolate milk and double pearls (I love the pearls haha) ..so the liquid doesn't have be to tea all the time, u can also use just milk or chocolate milk or milkshakes and even slushies/ice blended drinks .traditionally bubble tea was milk tea with the black pearls but these days everything is modernised and customised to suit our taste, the original milk tea with pearls is very popular infact! Some people like it without the pearls but that defeats the purpose of calling it bubble tea

Tapioca pearls are also known as boba in some cultures. It is produced by passing the moist starch through a sieve under pressure. Pearl tapioca is a common ingredient in Asian desserts such as Falooda, kolak, tapioca pudding, and in sweet drinks such as bubble tea, fruit slush and taho, where they provide a chewy contrast to the sweetness and texture of the drink.

Your mention of tapioca reminds me of when I was in grade school and the teacher said that tapioca was the major export of Brazil. Sure enough, the next test contained, "Name the major export from Brazil." I ran words back and forth through my young brain and finally wrote down what I remembered from the sounds, "Pappy Yokum". You have to be old enough to remember the comic strip, "Lil Abner" for this to make sense.

Sometimes its called boba also; it's a cold drink, usually flavored teas with milk or cream in it, and they place tapioca pearls at the bottom. Tapioca pearls are like a chewy jelly like balls that are sweet, like in tapioca pudding, but bigger. Im not sure if they have any in Kentucky, but I see them pretty often in California.

They're all edible. Think of it as jelly. The pearls are the reason why this is called 'bubble tea', as they look like bubbles. Without the pearl, this will be just called milk tea. The pearls add a additional layer of texture to the drink, and its fun to chew on them.

Never tried milk based bubble tea but I have tried litchi, mango, strawberry and peach and I love it. Not healthy to drink that often. I bought it several times in Germany, before I found out that we have it in my home country.

boba波霸 means girls with big boobs in taiwan. its then used as a name for big size tapioca pearls. and the traditional boba(bubble) tea is a mix of milk tea and tapioca pearls. milk tea=black tea+milk, dont know why there are people saying boba tea isn't made of tea...

  • @thatasiankid45
    @thatasiankid45 11 ปีที่แล้ว

Hey Todd. After boiling the tapioca, you should put them in a bowl with honey and ice to cool and sweeten the pearls. This adds an edge to the tea that can't be beat.

  • @sakuramikan28

I LOVE bubble tea and i find it best to bring the water to a boil and add in a bunch of tea leaves, when that boiled, and the water is colored with the tea leave flavors, i add in lactaid free milk( makes it silker than reg milk) and bring that to a just boil (do not boil for long because the milk will start burning!). Instead of sugar i use a natural and much healthier sweetener: HONEY it works great stir it in until dissolve then use a drainer so you wont get tea leaves into the milk tea. Best consumed warm.

You could also make your own syrup. I'm sure you can find a nice syrup recipe for tapioca pearls here on youtube. I, personally, use water, brown sugar, graduated sugar and honey. Then all you'd have to do is let the pearls sit in the mixture while you're assembling everything else and you have the sweetened pearls you'd taste in stores.
