Wow thanks for sharing! GOD bless you. I went through similar situation. I have lived here with my family since 10 yrs old and had my application denied several times and changed solicitirs 4 times. I had 4 As at my A levels and i was invited to study Law at Cambridge university but i was unable to go to university because I could not afford international fees since I was not entitled to student loans. My family were restricted from working so I have been homeless and evicted in this country 3 times due to lack of money. I did not get my residency until I was 23 years old. I am 26 and married now and about to buy my first home. I have a good job in central london without a degree. Only Jesus did this for me. Hope this encourages anyone currently still going through this.

I'm currently in that situation and for me, it's extremely scary and stressful because you'd think that being here since i was 2 would make me feel more secure here. but no, I still feel such insecurity in this country and me and family are still waiting for our own indefinite leave to remain, in a country i see as my own home.

Laila, I am from the Carribean and my immediate fam emigrated to the US. I have been a subbie since 2009. That's a long time! I began watching your videos starting with your big chop. I remember in one of your video when you said u were taking a break from school and when you talked briefly about hair loss or balding. You never did discuss it with us but because I am like you, difficult to open up to others, my instinct was telling me something was up. I never assume everything is well with others unless I am 100% sure because most of the time everything is NOT ok. Maybe I am wrong.
There is a quote by an unknown that I love. It says: “Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle,”
You are such a beautiful person both inside and out. You exude positivity and the people who are open to that positivity appreciates it. I am glad you are here.

Aww wow what an inspirational story! i was so touched I was in tears watching this- I cant imagine what you went through!!! ..... I too was an immigrant from Zimbabwe and came here at 9 years old to be with my mum. They 'lost' my application several times and by the grace of God after 10 years I got my indefinite leave and my British passport and just completed my Masters in Clinical Psychology. God is sooo wonderful - keep inspiring others, you are true testament that things can work out for people xxx

I too was detained at Yarl's Wood (I completely understand the whole van experience you were talking about it's honestly the worst thing I've ever experienced ) and I had my ALevels in 2 weeks! So I was really panicking. Anyway, thank God my mum and I got out after 6 days of being there(a week to my exams), I sat my exams and came out with A*s which could've only been by God's grace because I became so disoriented and was badly affected by the whole experience. I can't go to uni and I have to report every other week😅😅 but I'm grateful to be out and be in my own home

We all have similar experience that is what held me and gave the strength to go through all the narrations painfully. I can assure you that you will definitely go to Uni and be happy see your destiny unfolds for good. There is this power of a positive confession. The word is in your mouth and the power is with your tongue. As you proclaim so it shall be. So don't stop saying what you want done that is not yet done. God will bring all to reality. He has not finished with us. Cheers!

They are so under staffed the staff they do have just make random decisions. Ultimately it was her mother's fault for not sorting out her child's status well before she was 16 as they delibrately delay giving answers until you are 18, as then it's easy to chuck you out.

@@MsPeabody1231 How do you know she could afford it?? They applied several times and each time cost a tbousand dollars! Plus lawyer fees! That's a ridiculous barrier to access for so many people! I was born and raised in Toronto and there is no way I could afford to do that! And it is probably PURPOSELY that expensive so that poorer people are easily detained and deported.

The way we are treated in foreign countries is so appauling but the disheartening thing is how we in africa still dont want to put it in the work these foreign countries put in to make their countries better rather we just see these countries as like an escape route, a place to go to make all our problems go away.

Thank you for sharing your story, Laila. It's so important to humanize immigration in this way because immigration policy/laws and the debate surrounding immigration rarely center the human experience. From one fusion of cultures to another, I appreciate you!

I'm so proud that you came out with your story. I actually remember watching your video sometime ago where you stylishly mentioned getting your indefinite leave. Only someone who has/is going through immigration battle could have understood what you said in that video. I'm glad you finally had the courage to speak out. So many people are in this situation and you would never know unless they told you. WELL DONE! God bless you and your entire family. Like you said, not everybody has a family who can help them mortally or financially in such situations, and many people have found themselves being deported. Congratulations, I'm proud of you. My prayers to your mum. Much love

She's a massive idiot..i feel we need more intelligent people in ENGLAND not just any ol'rubbish...If you are not born in a country you have to make sure all your paperwork is correct. Why is this so hard for some?
Modern Britain doesn't owe anyone anything.....If she wanted to do well go back to Ghana go to University there than work and apply again...Calling Britain imperialists yet wanting to be a part of the country IS RIDICULOUS....
AS for Africa all the countries there need is some decent forward thinking LEADERS.Its took South Korea 50 yrs to go from peasants to a global technological POWER.

God is great! So happy everything worked out well. I went through a similar situation, but in the Netherlands (born in Congo) not as a regular immigrant, but worse... An asylum seeker. After years of living in insecurity we finally got the citizenship. Always felt ashamed of being an Asylum seeker. Only recently I'm able to speak about it, even close friends never knew about my 12 years of living in an Asylum camp. Your story really touched me and you have inspired me so much. Stay blessed!

nelson Lea It wasn't my choice to take. People tend to forget that children under legal age don't have a say when their parents want a safer and better future for them. And go back to what with no papers? With nothing to build a future? Now that I have citizenship, I have gone back to my birth country and I have traveled to other places. Heck, I don't even live in Europe anymore as I'm writing this. As you might know or maybe you don't, we live in a world where people who come
from so-called 3rd world countries don't have shit to say when they don't have the right papers. It makes all the difference in the world having a double passport or having the nationality of a Western country.

Thanks for sharing I work as a nurse in the UK, I was almost deported too.I was given a 4 year working visa and before it expired the healthcare provider applied to have it extended and when they sent my paperwork immigration declined my application saying the company was paying me a few pence less than the wage outlined for nurses. The Royal college of nurses legal team represented me and the company I worked for said they did not want to lose me so they corrected my wages by increasing and back paying what they did not pay properly.I got my extension and managed to get the permanent residency.I was not detained but I was told to stop work immediately.I was in middle of a shift giving medication and I had to stay in my rented apartment till everything was sorted.I am happy you managed to get the situation sorted.

I see why God made you share it because it's a timing story. A lot of people are silently in this situation and can't speak about it because immigrants have been demonised. For every struggle, there's a purpose. Your mum is healed, it was for a purpose. Thanks for blessing the immigrant community with your story.

What an amazing story to share. My father immigrated from Ghana to the US and have shared similar stories with me and my sisters. It's by the grace of God that we are all where we are. God is an amazing wonder and he reveals himself to us in his own way. His thoughts and ways are higher. Nothing can stop you when you have the peace and confidence of God. Keep going strong my sister and fulfill the purpose God has for you in the U.K. If God be for you, who can be against you? No One!!
