"The more time passes, the more I'm sorry about it. We shouldn't have done it... We did not learn enough from this mission to justify the death of the dog" - Oleg Gazenko, one of the scientists responsible for sending Laika into space
I have a tattoo of Laika and sputnik 2 on my leg, this music video is genious and the music is fantastic. Well done! I will never forget comrade Laika!
Before the launch, one of the scientists took Laika home to play with his children. In a book chronicling the story of Soviet space medicine, Dr. Vladimir Yazdovsky wrote, "Laika was quiet and charming...I wanted to do something nice for her: She had so little time left to live." :( look at the sky on the 3rd of November and remember the brave little dog called Laika that now lives among the stars..
Kinda silly how bent out of shape westerns get over this dog that died half a century ago, whereas they never spare a thought for all the strays running around Moscow today, being abused and neglected.
If he wanted to really do something nice he could have swapped Laika out with a similar looking dog that was terminally ill or something. But that would have risked his job and presumably their monitoring equipment had already recorded Laikas vitals under normal conditions as a baseline.
This guy is a genius. Amazing track. Love Trentemoller and other experimental electronic producers like Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Massive Attack, Fourtet, Amon Tobin, Burial, Forest Swords, Allflaws
It's so sad and hypnotic, I can't help but love the sinister vibes .. keep listening over and over.. maybe I was a dog in a previous life.. I can relate.. poor Laika .. 😪
God, I wanna hug this doggie! The US doesnt really know about her anymore but, I do. Such a sad story. i just wanna hug her! Atleast this song is about her, and i think what she must have felt emotionally..."abandoned"..... and hopefully nothing like this EVER happens again... with dogs or monkeys or anything ALIVE. We can explore on our own. We can choose to maybe NOT make it home. Its only fair. We can choose to test with ourselves.
I read that her real, original, name was Kudryavka. "Laika" is the name of her dog race. She PAINFULLY died either from overheating inside the capsule because of a mechanical failure, stress, complete depletion of oxygen OR more likely, from all of these reasons. She should have been granted euthanasia, but she wasn't. They just waited for her to die. it was too cruel....
Pat Uszodi Laika was found as a stray. With that said, the poor thing still died in space crammed into a small space, with all of the pain that entails.
From what i know. Laika was a stray dog. Not one taken from her ownder while he was in a store. Other than that, i respect that dog more than almost all the people i know! Max respect Laika
Oh yeah, got tears in my eyes, thinking of my dogs and of all the poor animals that have been and still are missused for whatever testings... music and video damn good!!!
Belka and Strelka - Soviet cosmonaut dog, the first animal to orbit space flight and returned to Earth unharmed. Flight took place on board the "Sputnik-5." Launch took place August 19, 1960, flight lasted more than 25 hours, during which time the ship made 17 complete revolutions around Earth. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_space_dogs#Belka_and_Strelka
love the low-tech special effects. ...are some of the textures happening in the background [i.e at 2:08] the EKG readings from Laika when she was under extreme stress while in space?
No. The feeling is just shattering thinking of the attachment that a dog can have for a human being and thinking about the fact that some dogs were sent all alone to die in space, for whatever reasons.
I never heard anyone make the point that the first earthling in space was a girl. Why? God bless you Laika, you are one of my greatest heroes along with Jesus, Joe Kittenger, countless doctors who died in self experimentation. and so many others.Yuri Gagarin, Neil Armstrong, I am sure they thank you too.
The first was actually a monkey, I'm pretty certain. And likely male at that. The first human is rumored to be a woman though. Yuri wasn't the first human into space - just the first to return.
@@minaabraxas3964 *you know you're really ignorent. This dog was a street dog and was sent on a suicide mission to space with no way home. Do you know how legendary that is? Do you understand stand what was going through that dog's mind when the ship overheated and died slowly burning up? Hell no you don't, I almost cried when reading an artical about this hero. He had one hell of a way to go, being the first creature to space from earth. He had the life, one hell of one...* [Even though this comment is old it still should be addressed because people will just hide behind a screen and talk shit about something that they'll never become.]
There is a very positive thing to keep in mind: In History for ever, the first habitant of earth who went to space was a DOG! it's a fact. Who went first in space? A dog called Laika!
I've loved Laika since I was a little kid.... I've also hated the men who put her in that rocket to die a slow lonely death for the same amount of time.
It's kinda weird because I am really addicted to this song, but it still creeps me out. I don't really know whether to listen to it or not, but it is wayyyyyy to good to just skip and listen to mainstream pop instead :p
@2300mathias - uh no. Laika died of overheating after she got into space. After reaching orbit Sputnik 2's nose cone ejected successfully, but block A core did not separate as planned, preventing the thermal control system from operating correctly. Some of the thermal insulation tore loose, raising the cabin temperature to 104 degrees F.
I'm watching this in the evening before going to sleep, after a nice day with friends around me. I'm drunk and high, and it's been a good day, but yet I have a melancholic feeling in me, as usual. But I'm feeling good insight. My head is on the pillow, and my left eye is blinded by the softness of it, so what I see on the screen seems three-dimensional. That, combined with my highly relaxed state of mind and body, makes me feel like I'm actually sitting in that car at this specific time of day watching the street lights pass by driven by a mysterious driver beside me, of whom I only get to see the right arm.
Thinking about you Constantly thinking about you Thinking about you I've been thinking too much about you See the sunset with no sleep at all Constantly thinking about you And I can't get through this at all Thinking about you Thinking about you I've been thinking too much about you I've been staring at the floor I've listened to all the tunes that I love But made me feel quite blue I've been thinking too much about you See the sunset with no sleep at all Constantly thinking about you And I can't get through this at all Thinking about you Thinking too much about you See the sunset with no sleep at all And I'm constantly thinking about you And I can't get through this at all Constantly thinking about you Constantly thinking about you And I can't get through this at all

Fitting since that's where she came from
The dog does not LIVE among the stars. The dog is DEAD. KILLED by humans.
