- Today the whole family is here to work on our big renovation project-- making a new barn for the horses!! We are taking out the old stalls and working on building new stalls for our draft horses. Keep watching to see the continued progress!
Watch our videos to learn about draft horses- horse logging, horses farming, and horse training! Jim uses Belgian, Percheron, and Suffolk horses to do work on the farm and in the woods. He teaches about harnesses, horse-drawn logging and farming equipment, horse feeding and maintenance, and voice commands for horses. New videos uploaded every week. Keep watching to see how Jim trains his new Suffolk Punch colts as he has trained his full-grown teams!

Hippy Hoppy Birthday Jim just a few years behind me. I bless you and your family. Cheers Gee from Brisbane Australia ⚘⚘
Thanks
Gentle giants! Awesome!! miss mine so much!!! Love watching!!
Thanks for watching!
I had a concrete floor in my stable, and we put rubber conveyer belting on the floor of the stalls, with wood shavings on top of that, and it was great, easy on the horses, easy to clean, and it didn't absorb any liquids. Each stall had a drain in the floor, and about once a year i would remove all of the shavings, and hose down the belting, and floor, then let it dry, replace the shavings, and it was as clean as it was when new. 🐎👍🇺🇸
we have recycled rubber mats and put shavings on top as well. It's perfect
Isaac whacking on that mini pumpkin with a hammer made me laugh. That boy's a go-getter!
Better save some projects for him to handle in a few years. Maybe splitting firewood with a maul. Lol.
Happy birthday Jim and many more.
Yes, he sure is a go-getter! H had so much fun hitting those pumpkins. Thanks for watching

Happy birthday Jim! Poor horses looked pretty confused when they saw their home missing. It looks like it will be nice when completed.
Re-bonjour la famille Gordon. il est 07h 30 du matin ici en France. I suppose that it's bedtime for y'all in New York. i must say, what a super video. the grandkids helping, and not complaining. a stinky work indeed, but it's done. Aunt Trudy as supervisor and lead worker héhé what a joy to watch. the little fella, smashing pumpkins... excellent. some would ask: why is the wood so thick? not me, because of watching the youtube channel, working horses with Jim, i've learned that the weight and power of these fine horses demands strong and enduring stalls. nice work Jim and Levi. i finish the video, sipping hot coffee on a rainy day, and Aunt Abby in the snow with Ken and Buck i believe. I imagined that i was watching a Sofia Coppola movie. the female protagonist Abby lost in the moment with gentle black horses in the snow, silence, beautiful pastel colors and muted lighting. the soft after thanksgiving-like music really is captiving !!! bravo
Thanks for all your nice comments!
You Folks are doing a nice job .
Coming along nicely 👍🎅🏻
Thanks
Good afternoon Jim and Family! I'm so happy to see wood for the horses to stand on, concrete is so hard on their ankles. I see your horse are a lot like myself, don't do change very well either. LOL But please give them babies a carrot or apple to relieve their stress.
I'll be so glad to get it done
Happy B-Day
Thanks
Happy Birthday Jim and many more
Happy Birthday Jim.
Good afternoon Jim,have l missed something 🤔 l didn't realise you were redoing the stalls.Anyway they are looking great.Lady and Bill looked very confused when they come in lol.How lovely to see all the family chipping in and today on this video l noticed just how much Trudy looks like you.lts looking very cold for you out there, the temperature has dropped for us but no where as cold as you have it.So excited to see the new stalls,so till next time, all the very best and hi to Brenda 🌱🌱🌱💕🇬🇧
Hi! Yes, winter has set in!
It's coming along nicely! Great job family!
Hello Annette,l do hope your well...l know its early but wishing you a very happy Christmas and an fabulous new year 🌱🌱🌱💕🇬🇧x
@@joycehennequin8469 oh thank you Joyce!! I am looking forward to Christmas all my kids will be home here at the farm this year!! Merry Christmas to you and yours! Christmas 🎄
Didn't know it was your birthday. Happy Birthday! Since you are re-doing your stalls, do you consider putting in waterers, so that the horses have access to water whenever they want?
I agree with Brenda, the desensitization with everything that's going on in the stable is good for the young Suffolks.
you forget where we live, the pipes would be frozen 5 months of the year.
@@WorkingHorsesWithJim I think I have seen commercials on RFD-TV that offer solutions to that, but I do not know anything about the price. In Bavaria, where our winters can also be rather cold, I had such waterers in my stable.
@@klauskarbaumer6302 the barn is unheated and would probably be cost prohibitive to install pipes, heaters, etc.not to mention the electricity to run it
Living just west of Rochester, NY, frozen water in the winter is always a concern. I HATE chipping frozen buckets & dealing with water hoses that freeze up & all the negative issues of watering in freezing temps. We get the lake effect storms off Lake Erie & Lake Ontario, so we came up with solutions that are not terribly expensive, but more importantly provide the horses with more than enough water during the cold temps we deal with. In our stalls we use 2 heated water buckets - ea 5 gal & usually the girls drink on average 1/2 bucket total overnight. So I could go down to 1 bucket for my Fjord, but my boarder’s horse likes to poop in one of her buckets at least twice a week. Outside I’ve got a 100 gal Rubbermaid tank w/a floating heater, which works great. Between the 2 horses they each drink about 10-15 gal if water a day. So keeping water in front of the horses 24/7, although is nice, having it at night isn’t really necessary, if they’ve got plenty to drink during the day. Yrs ago I worked at a farm that had +/-15 lesson horses in straight stalls for the night, ea offered water before secured for the night & then again 1st thing in the morning. They did perfectly fine, no incidents of colic or other gut issues. The heater for the water tank usually last about 5-6 years & the same for the buckets. They are plugged in from mid Nov - March & then I put regular buckets in the stalls & put the tank heater away until the next season. Even though I’ve got the draining hydrant in the barn, I do put heat tape on the pipe - if the handle isn’t closed completely, the water won’t drain & you have a frozen pipe. The hose for filling the tank is removed & drained after ea use as well. I would rather take a minute disconnecting & draining a hose, than take all day thawing a pipe. So many people get nervous if a horse doesn’t have water in front of them all the time. From my 50+ yrs of experience, I think horses can do fine w/out water at night - if they’ve got good access to water during the day & are offered water before being tied in at night in a straight stall. I like the remodel & I’m sure the horses will as well. I really enjoy watching you drive, I’m hoping to get back to working my Fjord, I miss driving, but medical issues have kept me away from doing any driving for over 10 yrs - I competed in pleasure driving competitions around NY & enjoyed putting miles on just driving down the road, driving single & pair. I miss it, but have some great memories. Thank you for sharing your farm life! God bless!
@@WorkingHorsesWithJim its not the location, its the insulation. up here in canada its suicide not to heat anything. Barn is heated to 5c and goes higher the rare times the horses are in. Horses bring the temp to 10c but the horses only sleep inside at ends of pregnancies. The waterers do not freeze in any of the 3 15x10 stalls. We use one stall for chickens cause the horses are seldom inside with the lead mare acting like a 2000lbs donkey killing the random predators that dare come on the property
You did another nice job looks very good show the house as well enjoy it keep up the good work
