  • Today we find that colt training doesn't always go as planned!! We took our Suffolk Punch Colts, Duke and Earl, out with our Percheron Team, Ken & Don. Duke broke his rope and ran home alone. Jim, Brenda, and Abby also work on preparing the cabin for winter- vacuuming and weed eating!
Here is the link to our Merchandise :) ► www.workinghor...
Watch our videos to learn about draft horses- horse logging, horses farming, and horse training! Jim uses Belgian, Percheron, and Suffolk horses to do work on the farm and in the woods. He teaches about harnesses, horse-drawn logging and farming equipment, horse feeding and maintenance, and voice commands for horses. New videos uploaded every week. Keep watching to see how Jim trains his new Suffolk Punch colts as he has trained his full-grown teams!

I have a picture of my grandmother at age 12 in a long dress, stand on the side of their sleigh. My great grandfater had a dairy herd (hand milked) in southeastern Ontario, and they did almost all horsedrawn vehicles until well into the 50’s.

Wow, that was an exciting video. I'm so happy that all worked out well with Duke. He clearly loves his home and people. Abby, love your red and green nails! The cabin is cozy and inviting. Your grandmother's fabric picture is really charming. I like the way you talk to the horses, Abby. Just like an short interview with people. Ha ha, at the end, behind you, Abby, Duke looked like he was trying to untie himself! Smart one, that Duke.

Think the problem with ken's fillid legs could be winter laminitis due to standing all night in cold conditions. Have you tried massaging his and applying wool bandages loosely apied. Put some straw on top of sawdusr for bedding this might help. Hope he gets better soon.

Our cow pasture would flood every winter and we would go skating on it. The swamp grass would stick up thru it and catch out skates and cause a fall. We didn't have weed whackers back then. Last time I skated there was the week before I had to report to the Army. I took my girlfriend on a skating date and visited my grandmother before I had to leave. Fifty years plus ago.

Well I guess Earl will be the "Butt" of many a joke from now on. Sorry about that. but I couldn't resist. Just really glad he did not get hurt. But (there's that but again) it did get him some "Free" time to lolly gag around the field on the way back to the barn. Also Glad Jim did not go thru the ice. it's pretty precarious this time of the year and the weather we've had in the northeast has be up and down temp wise. we have a 60-70 deg day coming up next week! and its Dec!!! Thanks for a nice ride out to the cabin and pond. Duke & Earl and Buck and ken were somewhat interested in what everyone was doing. and they got little exercise whilst doing it. thanks for sharing.
