I wasn't expecting a Garfish cook up, now that's different. I wouldn't have thought to fillet them like that either. I was told by a Guernsey native (a few years back) that you just chop them into chunks and flash fry them. What you did makes more sense, I might even try it some time. Great watch.
@@johnchambers2509 hi there John, I just went with my gut😂 not eaten one before, but I recall lots of pin bones when I used them as bait in the past, so filleting them will then allow you to remove these. If I was in a cleaner environment & could give my hands a good scrub, cutting into chunks would make great finger food I’m sure, I feel like they would go really well with a rich tomato sauce, a nice tapas dish maybe? Thanks as always for watching buddy, take care 😎👍👍
Hi Lincoln It looked really very nice & tasty. I've never ate a garfish. One fish I'd like to try is black bream they say that is really very nice. I'm off to the Bristol channel today Thursday the 19th mate will lett you how I got on got squid prawns & ragworm so you never know should b good session hopefully there should b some cod about. Take care buddy happy fishing 👍😎😃🎣🐟🐟🐟🐟
Best of luck to you as always Al, hope it’s not to blowy for you…bream are indeed beautiful, still plenty of time to get one before the winter! Cheers buddy 😊👍👍
Brilliant Garfish heaven in that bit of water. In my time I've caught garfish since I was a kid to well over a thousand and 72 in a day such superb sport on light tackle but never ate one. If I accidentally catch one will do now, nice one 😊
Cheers Adrian, I’m sure if I stopped to put a bubble float on with a strip of squid on a small hook I would have bagged up, there were loads out there. And I agree, great fun😊 thanks for watching buddy 👊🏻👍👍
Hi John, I would love to live closer, trust me! It’s not too bad, around 45 minutes to this mark, but would love to be even closer. When your closest bit of beach is Weymouth & Chesil though, you can’t really complain! Thanks as always for watching 😊👊🏻👍👍
Hi Lincoln Great vid garfish are great to catch good sport & they give a good fight too like the mackerel bud. I can't remember the last time I caught a garfish must b what a good 4 or 5 years ago longer then that I think. Didn't think you could eat garfish your cookup looked well good. I had a busy day Monday I took out the flymo & cut my neighours back lawn then came back to my place & cut the front lawn & the back lawn & tomorrow thursday 19th I'm off fishing hopefully there should b some cod about may b Ray's even a bass & conger. Anyway buddy take care happy fishing tight lines 👍😀😎🎣🐟🐟🐟🐟
Hi Al, first one I’ve had for ages too, great to see. It’s that time of year when anything can show up on Chesil so you should be in with a good chance. How did you get on in the Bristol Channel the other day? Take care buddy & don’t work too hard 😊👍👍
Garfish eat Awesomely! Actually better than Mackerel in taste. always swimming like Mackerel. Scad are also a great eat. Chop it up roll in flour and shallow fry in butter!
Hi buddy, there’s a point, I’ve never tried scad either, will give it a go next time 👍I love mackerel, but agree that the garfish ate better, it was lush! Cheers pal, thanks for watching 👊🏻😊👍👍
Excellent as always young man. Great to see a different fishing style. And that garfish brilliant cook up. Never seen them eaten before, which I agree a mistake. Did look amazing. Wasn't sure if it was going to be oily but looked very white and fine. Can imagine great taste. Already looking forward to your next adventure. Stay safe fella, look after yourself and keep up the great quality vids. Always grateful for the obvious time and effort you put in. 👍.
Hi John, I was genuinely & pleasantly surprised at how nice a fish they are to eat, it was a real treat not to mention great fun to catch. Thanks as always for your motivating comment, hopefully be back out for another go soon🤞…take care pal 😎😊👍👍
Good ole Captain Beaky, the first sea fish I ever caught back in 1985 from Chesil. Haven’t seen any there yet this year, they must all be in the cove! Great film as always and tight lines!
Hi Paul, I’ve not had one for a while now, there were stacks of them in there! I think a bubble float & squid strip on a size 8 & you would bag up. Hope your keeping well buddy, thanks for watching 😎😊👍👍
Hi mate, really enjoyed this vid , it’s a good insight into the humble Gar , might think twice about letting one go back now . Keep up the good work buddy, Regards from Weymouth.
Cheers Tone, really enjoyed my morning at Bowleaze, feel like I want to go back with the beach rods after dark to see if there are any eels or big bass about… take care pal, and of course, thanks for watching 😊👍👍
Trust u to knock out a gar and cook 🍳 one up on site. Used to.love catching them off mumbles pier on either float fished mackerel strip or sink and draw tactics with a tiny white plastic eel .Great video .the old timers I used to fish with back in the day rekoned gars were poisonous. Lol. Obviously not .fab video Weymouth is a great place .
Hi Rob, I used to love fishing mumbles pier, fantastic place, got my biggest ever bass off there, had to walk it to the beach! Can’t say I blame the old timers for thinking that, those bones are mental! Cheers buddy, take care & thanks for watching 😊👍👍
Cheers Gary, I’ll be cooking one again for sure, tasty little fish! Yes, it’s a stunning spot…not many mushroom growing around there though 😉 cheers buddy 👊🏻👍👍
That battered silver spinner you used, I 1st used them 50 yrs ago they were called an Abu krill, I’m still using them now but different make, never eaten garfish, might give them a go if I catch one, nice vid Lincoln.👍
Hi David, yes, I seem to remember that name, they are great little lures, cast like a bullet! Deffo give them a try if you catch one, they’re beautiful. Take care pal & thanks for watching 😊👍👍
Cheers buddy, yeah I know what you’re saying, but I was very pleasantly surprised😊you’ll have to try a blind tasting 🙈 cheers pal, thanks for watching 👊🏻👍👍
Hi Lincoln, Lovely video and cook up. Garfish are tasty for sure I found then similar to mackerel personally and too good for bait unless you're a BFT 😄😄😄😄. Stick a small Dexter wedge or similar in your box they work great for that type of scenario when there's different fish in your swim.. Lots of Squid in East Sussex and Bass OTT the last few weeks has provided us with some welcome sport. I even made a Paella and used the squid (cooked at home not on the beach) mind you. Tight lines buddy and thanks again.
Hey there Simon. Good to hear your getting plenty of action down your way. Ha yes, the good old Dexter wedge, good call, I need to get a couple more to replace the ones I lost, cracking lures👍 …did you use any squid ink in your paella? Thanks as always Simon, your support is always appreciate buddy 😎👍👍
@@fishdisco3107 No i haven't used any squid ink Lincoln, how much do you suggest I add? maybe the whole ink sack to the dish? Thanks for the advice mate
@@simonknox5580 yes, there is no magic ratio really…when we buy it at work it just comes in a little sachet, we add to risotto towards the end of cooking, it’s more for the colour than flavour although there is a slight “fishyness” to it. It’s nice to try if you have it to use. Take care buddy 😎👍👍
Hi Rob, I must admit, I was surprised there weren’t a few bass around, it felt so fishy, so it’s good to hear you managed your get one out! Get yourself some sheep’s wool off a field fence and wrap it round your lure, tie it on with bait elastic and every time you get a bite the garfish will be on, their teeth will get stuck in the wool and every ones a prisoner 😂😂
