10:43 - A lot of fear and paranoia comes exactly from what we CAN'T see - like invisible ghosts haunting you, the feeling of being stalked by some stranger walking home alone in the middle of the night etc.
something notable about it is how msot horror mangas tend to go with a down to eart or realistic art style. Here this manga is incredibly stylised, helping it stand out.
I like how only seconds after Syd shouts ‘look away’, there is a giant panel of trypophobia material between 12:06-08😅😅 still, AWESOME recommendation! Thank you!! I am now anxiously waiting for the English version 😢
3:35 I don't know how many times I'll watch this, but that was a great moment. They don't give out awards good enough for that. The expression, the editing. If they could fuse and Oscar with a Nobel prize, that's what you would get.
I hate horror movies, but i can digest horror manga just fine despite the gory and graphics and weird scenes. I love horror stories but hate getting jump scared. 😂
Honestly I hope a company like Dark Horse pics this manga up for distribution here in the west. Because something like this is within their wheelhouse.
I'm chickenshit incarnate but damn you got me intrigued. I'll try to put on a brave face and read this when it gets translated. And completed. I have issues with closure (long ago a book series I loved got cancelled before it could finish and I still haven't gotten over it) so I'd rather wait for the story to be 100% finished before braving the terror.
There is a genuinely scary feeling when the characters don't react to the frightening faces as much as I feel they should (like the granny in chapter 4). It's almost as if I'm seeing things:O
If it gets English translated by the time the second volume comes out, could you let us know if you ever decide to check out the second volume? It looks excellent!
INTJ- I played silent hill 1 at a very young age, yeah, nothing scares me anymore. silent hill 1 scared the horror out of horror media lol. no joke I remember playing at night and hearing chanting and other noise I never heard around my home before.
Of course I spot this video right before I need to go to bed- 🫠😂 Spooks aside, holy crap, I am in LOVE with this mangaka's art style. When I look at it, it seems like a REALLY good blend of both Western and Eastern styles, which is super appealing to me. Like when you're just looking at panels with no horror or intricate details going on, it almost makes the art look (for lack of a better word) "amateur-ish", which REALLY bumps up the scares for me when you aren't expecting much, turn the page and suddenly see some really fucked up (and VERY unique) shit. Reminds me a lot of Junji Ito's stuff or PTSD Horror Radio, at least with coming up with unique methods of scares. 10/10, hope this eventually gets an English release! Thank you, Syd, for bringing this to everyone's attention! 💙
She says it like until Nikubami Honegishimi there was no good horror mangas at all, as if Itou Junji and Nakayama Masaaki just didn't exist. [Mieruko-chan] and [Wakusei Closet] are also great btw. And there's also [Bibliomania] and [Kimi ga Niku ni Nattemo] which are quite interesting if a bit unusual.
If you want to read the first chapter before watching this video to avoid spoilers, don't look on r/manga. I was spoiled by the top comment and it completely ruined it 😭
I was going to get offended by trash-talking the horror genre, but then I realized the only good non-movie/anime horror I've seen since the late 80's has been video-games, and even that's few and far between.
the art style alone is fucking me up in this manga lmao let alone its disturbing story the art style itself is unnerving and grotesque af even when it's just showing normal people and normal faces

The manga is called Nikubami Honegishimi or Flesh Tearing, Bone Grinding if anybody need a quick copy and paste
Thank you, fucking hell how hard is it for the creator of the video to write the name down anywhere...
Yeah it would have been nice have had that spelled out in the show notes since you commanded everyone to read it before watching Syd! 😡
@@WhatchaPLAYS It is written in the video.
@@WhatchaPLAYS briefly mentioned at 3:39
Nikubami Honegishimi
This manga kinda reminds me of PTSD radio, in a lot of ways. The existence of a hair god, the uncanny panels, the uncomfortable atmosphere...
yeah same i was thinking of PTSD radio
like..if Junji Ito and PTSD radio had a child, it would be this manga
OKAY SO I ALSO SAW THAT IMAGE BUT NEVER COULD FIND THE ACTUAL MANGA BLESS YOU SYD
i will say horror is a genre where things can be masterpieces by being cheesy. not every genre can pull that off!
@titansaint Bingo. That's why so many "bad" films are beloved in the horror genre. Some films work because they Don't take themselves seriously.
honey wake up new syd cursed manga vid dropped
I never realized the way Syd said volumes till now and I will never recover
Oh no, not the Valume. Why did you make me aware of this?
Is that a Midwest thing? Haha
I was like I'm from the Midwest and it's not how we say it Sydney! 😂 But she's a Northerner so what'd you expect?
Yeah I had to do a double take, it sounded like she was saying valium and after reading a manga like this might just need some valiums lol
Oh yeah, I love the way she says "taygs" and "draygins" too
That was one hell of a thumbnail to come across at midnight. Phew...
I love the way she says volume.
"VAHLYUME"
Sydney's disturbingly good at choosing the most evocative imagery ever. This thumbnail is keeping me up.
The two timelines narrative and someone asking and old detective about their case reminds me of the first season of True Detective.
10:43 - A lot of fear and paranoia comes exactly from what we CAN'T see - like invisible ghosts haunting you, the feeling of being stalked by some stranger walking home alone in the middle of the night etc.
Exactly. And that includes the horror genre as a whole. It's more scary when you never interacted with it.
killer clowns from outer space is a classic. how dare you.
I had to stop the video and comment on that too. It's a fun film.
Same. I gasped. Such a classic.
@Zombie_Trooper Yeah. FUN, not scary. I love this film but I will never call it anything except dark comedy
@@CF-or3ci Sure, but the fact it gets misconstrued as a direct comedy is the fault people make.
@@CF-or3ci Sam Raimi proved 40 years ago, films can do both.
i dont know if im ready for this manga, PTSD Radio already shook me hard to the core

Back here to be traumatized yet again....... Reading the manga either way
I hate horror movies, but i can digest horror manga just fine despite the gory and graphics and weird scenes.
I love horror stories but hate getting jump scared. 😂
All the art examples make me itchy.
Horror manga with symphony of the night soundtrack, adds a level of class to this.
Mieruko-Chan is pretty good too, haunting ghouls and cute anime girls
I really liked that one as well. It's like a combination of horror within a quasi-realistic world
i never found mieruko to be scary dark gathering on the other hand......
Love that she's pretty much writing for World Weekly News.
❤️ thank you syd
Big ups for that teeny tiny snippet of "Wandering Ghosts" at 3:23
I mean, say what you will about the Junji ito collection and maniac but the anime actually got me hooked on his manga and now I own 11 of them so… 😂
omfg. i LOVED the snippet of the secret song from castlevania SOTN!!! (yes, im a dork and listened to it a million times when i was a kid)
Can't sleep and the queen delivers❤❤❤❤
Honestly I hope a company like Dark Horse pics this manga up for distribution here in the west. Because something like this is within their wheelhouse.
YAY Its the one manga I'm genuinely in support of winning in the next manga awards
Nice backgroung music.
Can't go wrong with Symphony of the Night.
Glad I'm not the only one who noticed the intro for Wandering Ghosts from SOTN playing.
@@nocturneprividyenie2391 All the music was from SOTN, not just the intro.
Watching this at 12:36 am. Wish me luck
Garnt mentioned in a newer video you were reading manwha, and for a masterclass in horror you HAVE to try Melvina's Therapy
there is nothing worst than a vid telling me to watch then not writing the name somewhere.
Every time I see you in my recommended, I just think "Oh boy, what nightmare fuel did Sydney stumble upon this time..."
A wise man named Scott Woods once said finding a good horror movie is like panning for gold in the ocean.
that Castlevania sotn background music just hits me I had to comment.

What was the series?
Fuan no tane vibes but sketchier, more frenetic art? Well this is on my radar now.
"Be by your parents" Syd. You read the manga. You KNOW mother is NOT the one.
Thanks Sydney, I'll probably suffer from nightmares tonight T_T
Honestly sounds like a new classic!
There is a genuinely scary feeling when the characters don't react to the frightening faces as much as I feel they should (like the granny in chapter 4). It's almost as if I'm seeing things:O
11:00 Balloon boy from Mieruko-chan. Chapter 20. Completely shut me down when I saw it. (We don't talk about the anime.)
SYDNEY why do you say Valium instead of volume? Is this some sort of foreshadowing?
thanks for educate us syd lol
How did you get the manga translated (what translator did you use), i would love to read this
Manga review? And with the SOTN soundtrack as background music? *chef kiss*
I love your beautiful amazing content videos is truly amazing and interesting and I love watching your videos❤❤
Ok heck yeah I would read this. I'm a horror weeb in general so this is super up my alley
damn she called out the isekai gendra
If it gets English translated by the time the second volume comes out, could you let us know if you ever decide to check out the second volume? It looks excellent!
You wake up with hair in your mouth: 2:48
The artistry is amazing, and, the stories are, many of them, connected to reality ! ... 😊👍
It's time to stop snacking.
I just came here for the "hey guys it's your girl" but I wasn't ready for what followed
The scariest part of this was how Syd pronounced volume
Ngl I cant take it seriously when it looks like a yassified version of junji itos mangas
But it's a more scribbly versions tho
INTJ- I played silent hill 1 at a very young age, yeah, nothing scares me anymore. silent hill 1 scared the horror out of horror media lol. no joke I remember playing at night and hearing chanting and other noise I never heard around my home before.
Her Midwest accent really comes out with volume
Man this manga has some similarities to some analog horror series
Y'all got any more of them... horrors?
I think there might be a connection between this and incantation, they seem eerily similar
I got jump scared by that thumbnail!
I wonder why the license plate at 8:46 is "BLUE BIRD" upside down...
Hey sydsnap. Have you heard of "Mai Chan's Daily Life?"
leave my homicidal space clowns alone
can i suggest reading SMILE? stumbled on this masterpiece cant say its horror but it sure kinda like it in a way
1 view in 1 min ? SIS FELL OFF

7:59 somehow let me think of sekiro
License it and sell it yourself Syd! Be the horror you want to be in the world!
Broooo

This looks decent to me, before you ask. I'm die-hard horror fan since when I was kid.
The guy who wrote about spirals and other manga is really scary for me
Why does Syd say volume like this?? I’m from the Midwest too and I do pronounce it the way they do

Just put the fries in the bag bro
Ah god. The aunt was great, it’s gonna hurt know what’s coming
wait so the 2 main characters are vergilius from limbus company and don quixote from limbus company?
Say valume one more time I swear to god
Can anybody post a link where to buy it?:) When I looked for the title (both japanese and english) nothing came up, strange.. How did she even get it?
gurl, did you just say 'valume'? xD
Val-Yoom , I had to see if anyone else was irked by that constant mispronounciation
bro why does syd look so sad
I recommend reading ijousha no ai this is one of the creepiest yandere manga ever
The manga where a man becomes a chair for people to sit on him
There's a few editing oopsies cause Sydney ends up saying a few things twice :P
In any case, really interesting looking manga! :3
neato!
Who else thought Syd was about to say “Hentai” instead of horror.
Higurashi: am I a joke to you?
Now gues who doesn't have this manga available in their country 👍
You should read Mai chan is daily life
I was going to get offended by trash-talking the horror genre, but then I realized the only good non-movie/anime horror I've seen since the late 80's has been video-games, and even that's few and far between.
the art style alone is fucking me up in this manga lmao let alone its disturbing story
the art style itself is unnerving and grotesque af even when it's just showing normal people and normal faces
VALUME
Oh My god I had forgotten how much I loved your white girl energy
I like your tastes
the UK fucked up horror when they made winnie the pooh
Hey I recommend to read Maria no Danzai a good revenge manga
