FACTSSSS! Small band BIG SOUND!!! Speaking on experience I marched 2001 (Elite 7th grade) till 2006 Thats what BIG C was known for! Small band BIG SOUND! No matta who we went against! I remember challenging Mo Breeze an SU. We did not care who u was on the other side, parade or stand battle was we was comin!!!!!!! Nun but Volume!!! They lack percussion now. All u gotta do is let the ol heads come back n help n we’ll b the cush instructor Nealy! 💯
As an ATLien I can say ga and New Orleans are like and. Both have strengths where the others have weaknesses as a whole that’s why the match ups will always be interesting. Most New Orleans schools/players have a distinct sound and the ga schools/players who do crank up have a distinct sound . Two different sides of a coin.
Zach was my favorite tuba player in high school (SWD). I marched 03-05, 3 years under him. NOBODY made a bell pop like Zach. Immaculate, fat lows and crispy, punchy, detailed highs... consistently too. You could tell if he stopped playing to breathe, even amongst 16-20 tubas. His sound really carried weight. Many times I'd catch him mid-performance pointing up to the sky signaling to any other tuba player who wasn't scared to "take it up" (an octave), to go for it... in most cases it wasn't necessarily written that way - and I remember him paying the price for that a few times. His energy embodies the essence of what I love about the experiences of being in a competitive band. Zach went on to play for the Sonic Boom (best tuba section dynasty known to mankind). I see he got them boys right over at Columbia. They definitely have his imprint. It's a beautiful thing to see. Congrats on your commitment and manifestations Zach!
Them boys from columbia ready for the summer!!! Mellos and lower brass sound like grown ass men!!!! No cap though, LA aint no batches. Them boys cold over there too
After listening to both bands, they played some great tunes. You must listen to one another. Every song isn’t meant to be played loud. If you’re going to play loud, play the right note. Columbia trumpet player who’s continuously sticking out on 1st tune, that’s not it. I love Columbia tuba’s section and the band in blue has nice lower brass. Blue band, your majorettes look good, similar to SU Dancing Dolls. I’m not picking a winner but listen to one another.
Let this battle would’ve been outside, Columbia would’ve got exposed…. YACS definitely won this one! And I honestly was expecting YACS to lose… there was a lot of splatting and toning issues going on in Columbia band.
So where gonna ignore what yacs tubas where definitely sounding like what the same can be said about the trumpet they both had issues in there own right but yacs definitely ain’t win shit
@@rostaboi5011disagree yacs had a more consistent sound although some of those arrangements could’ve used a bit more and comparing tubas is crazy considering yacs only have 3 to Columbia’s 9
@@rostaboi5011that don’t even make sense, they’re heard just fine for there to be 3. And played more complicated parts all Columbia tubas played was quarter notes
Both bands did really well. Especially for their size. Good to see Columbia getting back to how they were in the early 00s
