    Alright this might sound a little psycopathic but have you tried having a conversation with yourself in japanese? You could practice both asking questions and expressing yourself at the same time.

    • @HypotheticalTiger
      @HypotheticalTiger  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've definitely done this before lmao but usually when I'm like trying to simulate a possible conversation I might have that day/one that I would want to have with someone haha I don't know if it's helpful but it's fun to do sometimes lmao

      @@HypotheticalTiger Ah so you do publicly admit to having the classic "お兄ちゃんキモイ。それはダメ" ”お兄ちゃんじゃない、お兄さまだ” conversation with yourself

    I think you're a year or two ahead of me as far as timeline in studying Japanese. Flip side is I've focused on speaking a lot and not so much reading recently. I will say once you do a lot of speaking you sound very well setup to progress extremely fast in expressing yourself. You give me a lot of confidence to continue every video I watch. It's been 2.5 years for me and I have no problem expressing myself or my goals, but I do have that same thing where if I try to go into detail or try to tell a really long story I start to lose the capability to express. Your reading/listening by the sounds of it is stronger then mine for sure. I'll never live in Japan (wife/kid here in the states) but I plan my first trip next year, very excited!
    Super happy for you man, I'm like 15 years older then you so just goes to show it doesn't matter if you're young or old, if you wanna kill it with a languagae anyone can do it.

    Nice Job Man! Will you ever start (or have you already started) learning to hand write in Japanese? Ive been immersion style learning for the same time as you know and am interested in learning to write but do not know where to begin

    • @HypotheticalTiger
      @HypotheticalTiger  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Have absolutely zero interest in learning to handwrite lol, I can write my name and that's about it 😂 I also plan on practicing and learning to write my address since that's probably the only other thing that will come in handy. Other than that I'll learn on a case by case basis

      @@HypotheticalTiger ah okay, I guess these days you don’t really need to write much. on a side note did you do any specific prep for the JLPT outside of just immersion, like any revision just for the JLPT?

    • @HypotheticalTiger
      @HypotheticalTiger  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@jackc8168 Nothing too specific! I did one practice test (didn’t even do the listening section) and that was about it. Didn’t even review anything I got wrong/was unsure of, basically just did it to get the layout of the test
      I plan to do a little more prep for N1 just so that I can be 100% sure I’ll pass but if I do the practice test and it goes super well I might just do the same approach as I did for N2

    Halfway through the vid and just wanna say you got this bro, so excited to see this update. You are my motivation. I watched your 6 month update video years ago. You inspired me to commit to immersion and I went really hard with sentence mining, reading, watching, and writing over about a year and a half. I fell off it but maintained a lot through casual practice since then. After seeing you pop up again, you've reignited my fire. I'm gonna jump back in again. It's always daunting seeing how far I have to go but the motivation after seeing how far I've come is far greater.

      Comments like these are truly the ones that make me super happy and glad that I decided to upload videos about my learning experience. I hope everything goes well for you! All you have to do is stay consistent and you'll get to where you want to be, one day you'll be amazed at how much you can understand/do. I'm rooting on everybody who's learning and want all of you to reach your goals and get to where you want to be :)

    14:30 I was in Japan back in October solo for the first time. I did exactly this before walking in alone into the restaurant and managed to order everything in Japanese myself. You've come a long way and giving you lots of props for forcing yourself out of your comfort zone and getting these new experiences. Really happy for you. Would definitely love to hang out with you if given the opportunity.

      Yeah every time I would get worried about a situation, 9 times out of 10 it would go completely fine and I was worrying for no reason. Glad that I'm not the only one who's had those thoughts!
      Thanks for the kind words :) if you're back in Japan let me know! I'm definitely down to meet up with other people from the community as long as our schedules all line up

    I lived in Japan maybe a total of 10-12 weeks last year across different trips while working my US based job and there's some super relatable stuff in here. Living is a completely different experience than vacation.
    When I'm free later I think you I might add some timestamps and some notes where I think it might be worth it for you or your audience to hear "yeah that's normal" or "man you should work on that" lol.
    I'm glad you uploaded this, there's a lot to talk about on the subject of living and working in Japan as an American other than Japanese work culture bad (true tho).

    Im a bit late (had to finish my current audiobook first 😂) but congrats man, so happy for you!! This is gonna be such a great life experience for you, very excited to hear how it goes!!
    Side note did you ever end up reading that japanese version of “and then there were none”that you got? Loved that book when I had to read it for english class in high school haha
