The scariest part about The Exorcist for me is that it's very relatable. We normally console ourselves when watching scary movies by saying that would never happen to ME. I would do this, I would do that, instead. The mother did EVERYTHING humanly possible to get her daughter help and she was in a position to afford the best. There aren't any true jump scares and there is a lack of music in all the right places. Still scary after 50 years.
True. Some younger people say it's not scary. Then you can tell what they mean is it's not gory. One murder happens off camera and there's no pictures of heads being shot off or people being stabbed to death, it's more psychologically scary. In Jaws you aren't scared of the shark 🦈 getting you in the movie theater or your couch 🛋️ at home, but the devil can get you anywhere, LOL.
I haven't seen The Exorcist in forever. I probably haven't watched it since they released the version with the cut scenes (like Regan coming down the stairs). This movie is a lot. I try not to watch or rewatch too many demonic movies. I'm not even religious, but I don't play around with demons, devils, spirits, ghosts... No ma'am!

She also was NOT the one doing the specific sex acting scenes. Clever body double and editing work made those appear to be her. The demons voice was actually A 57 yr old woman's doing voice over. Many like myself, dumb enough in my early teens to sneak in and see parts between my fingers, thought it was A 12 yr old doing all of it. This only added to the outrage of 'moral' group's protests. As a senior Christian, I've seen throughout my life that those with the most moral outrage, are often as restrictive and anti-loving and accepting as a mean atheist with a hangover. It was great for the church ad TONS of new 'scared straight' believers rushed in! One more: this movie was actually very loosely based on the exorcism of a young boy several decades earlier.
I was TERRIFIED of this movie growing up 😂 now I can appreciate and dare say even love this movie. Also this movie when it premiered in the 70’s was a literal phenomenon, TH-cam videos of people watching the premiere it was WILD

Hey your reaction was entertaining & fun!💯 I first saw this film as a small child in the 1970s. TV cut out some of the more severe scenes, but it was very still very powerful & disturbing. All the actors in the film are very good & the director William Friedkin is top notch
Classic film, if you really enjoyed this movie I suggest watching Exorcist 3, my personal favorite of the series, Exorcist 2 not really worth watching, best to pretend it doesn’t exist

It's actually a vastly underrated film and not the disaster everyone claims it to be in my opinion. I think because it takes a totally different (and interesting) approach to the story, its often dismissed. I've always liked it. Exorcist 3 is excellent. And out of the two versions of the prequel movie that were filmed, the Dominion version I preferred as it was a little more intelligent and less obvious than the Beginning cut. Just my own thoughts on the movies.
yeah, exorcisms are crazy. some even don't return to normal after it, or are permanently affected by the possession. they make the person do and say crazy stuff, especially to the priests in an exorcism to tempt their faith. yknow, like show vulnerability and get afraid of continuing on. love the reaction btw

1. I was 13 when I saw this in the theater with friends. What rating system they had at the time wasn't really followed that closely. By word of mouth, I was aware of the head spinning, vomiting and language but what freaked me the most was the demon flashes. 2. When the doctor is looking at Regan's skull x-ray and says, "Nothing in there" I always 🤣 3. The spider walk down the stairs was NOT in the original release. 4. The loud banging with the medical equipment was for our benefit. 5. Father Merrin and the demon had a previous encounter where he almost killed the father. Merin doesn't acknowledge the receipt of the note and tells Karras there's no need for analysis. 6. The demon doesn't kill Merrin. From the beginning we know he has a heart problem most likely brought on by the previous encounter. 7. Karras doesn't kill the demon. He does manage to draw it out of her and sacrificed himself for her.
I died when the Bible came out. 🤣 That was actually the perfect movie to have a Bible on hand for. I was in the 4th grade when this movie came out. I was way too young to see it then obviously, but I definitely remember the hype around it. News reports about people fainting, puking, running from the theater in horror, that shit was real! My parents didn’t have that bad of a reaction but it obviously shook them. I was already a horror fan because of whatever scary movies I could see on TV (VCRs didn’t even exist yet). So The Exorcist was like my someday Mount Everest lol. I even had nightmares about it way before I ever saw it.

Yeah I read that guy became a NASA scientist and kept a low profile all his life. It was just recently that his name was released after he died. It's not sure if it really was possession or a mental episode tbh as he has never said anything.
It's based on a novel by William Blatty, and the novel is based on a real incident involving a young boy in 1949 I'm an atheist so I'm inclined to believe the boy was really schizophrenic, but if the exorcism helped him who am I to criticize lol

Can’t believe this is a true story except it was a male in real life who was possessed. Thankfully he lived a normal life after the exorcism. I remember watching this as a kid and this movie traumatized me. I am still traumatized tbh. I can’t ever sit and watch this movie, but I am forcing myself because he is my favorite TH-camr. Yeah I read that guy became a NASA scientist and kept a low profile all his life. It was just recently that his name was released after he died. It's not sure if it really was possession or a mental episode tbh as he has never said anything.
