    Thank you! I was having difficulty getting high speed internet to my sons room across the other end of our home. The TP Link routers with WDS are so easy to work with. I ended up using a Netgear EX7300 Extender between the main router and the one in WDS mode, but by using the survey button again onced logged in with the TP Link router I could change the WDS bridge connection from the main router that was further away to the stronger and closer extender. Thanks for your videos.

    You really did a great job explaining bridging, thank you so much! Of course, I had to watch this video about 3 times for everything to sink in! Lol! Now, I'm going to try to find your video that I think shows us how to set up a mesh or, as you call it, a "daisy chain" setup.

    Well, I arrived as promised and it was worth the search.
    This video answers my Q about channels that I posed in my comment on your vid on connecting 2 routers.
    Excellent, tutorial!
    Q, what is the difference between connecting routers to the main router and making a daisy chain structure?
    Is there an advantage of one system over the other perhaps?
    👍👍👍

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The are advantages and disadvantages in both daisy chain and star configurations is a physical layout (usually) is easier with daisy chain but there is one consideration here if you have a slower router in the daisy chain you would want it at the very end of the chain. If the slow router was first in line it would choke the bandwidth to the rest of the routers, also if any of the routers in a daisy chain go down then all the routers upstream of it will be disconnected too.
      In a star configuration you would be running an ethernet cable from the main router to each router on the network which usually means you would be running more cable through your house and the router (usually only has four or less free ports but you can add more with a switch) from a bandwidth point of view I doubt you would see very much difference but my guess is that the star configuration would be faster and if a router on that configuration where to fail it would only affect that one router.
      Thank you so much for watching, commenting and the very kind words. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀

      @@richardlloydusa Thanks for taking the time to answer my Qs.
      I think the "star" system is the best for the reason you give, namely if one router goes down it doesn't disable the entire system which is what would concern me.
      From my experience, it's not often a creator gives such a detailed explanation and for that I 👏👏👏👏👏
      Looking forward to more vids 👍

      I'm happy I could help. The question actually helped me sort it out in my head and I may make a video on the pluses and the minuses on both configurations because it does make a difference in it's reliability if it's a concern. You should know what will happen and what the points of failure could be even if you go with the daisy chain you will at least know how to troubleshoot it. More videos coming and this may be one. Thanks again.

    Now this video is 4 years old could anyone suggest the "better" routers that could be used.
    Now that they're not cutting edge they could be very reasonable to buy on good old eBay.

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm going to make a video on my favorite used routers you can buy cheaply on eBay (under $30). These are my favorite Dual Band routers:
      The Netgear R7000 eBay(paid): ebay.us/412mq6
      My second favorite the Netgear R7000P eBay(paid): ebay.us/MI3xCQ (it's faster than the R7000 but not as configurable in DD-WRT WIFI
      My third favorite router is the TP-Link Archer C9 eBay(paid): ebay.us/KfVRHK Check them out.
      If you want to do OpenVPN these routers will do it with DD-WRT.
      They will also support the third party firmware DD-WRT and others but NOT (OpenWRT)
      Both are Dual Band and have a 1000Mhz Broadcom processors and 1 Gbps LAN ports.
      AND Bonus ALL three have REMOVABLE antennas which allow you to mount antennas externally or to upgrade to different antennas from stock.
      And all this for under $30 on eBay!
      (Affiliate links. Helps me on TH-cam and does not cost you any extra if you use them)

    Great videos Mr. Lloyd! Regarding the routers not allowing you to relog, it's because you didn't end the session by logging out. It's (as you assumed), a security measure, the system doesn't allow multiple administrator sessions. You just have to end a current session by logging out, and it'll let a second device to access/create another session. Again, very detailed & informative videos, good job. Another question, you mentioned making a video about daisy chaining WDS bridges, in that case, will the network have high latency/lag as one progresses down the chain?

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately WIFI is set to connect to the first responder regardless of it't signal strength. This is why I do not use the same SSID on each router because I can quickly see which router I am connected to and change it to the right one if needed. Thanks.

    Sir, There's 1 main router of which IP Gateway is unknown (installed by Broadband Internet Service provider), however, I can connect it with another 1 OLD ADSL (NO WDS Feature) router through RJ45 Cable, of which I changed the IP as 192.168.1.2 and disabled DHCP. Now I connected my third router (TPLINK) to my 2nd router using the WDS feature, I put the IP of my 3rd router as 192.168.1.3 and channel as 5 (same as 2nd router). Is there anything that I missed to do? that the router frequently disconnects and I can't access Router Admin as you showed in this video. Please kindly reply.

    • @kuteali
      @kuteali 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      2.4 GHz 802.11 channels
      The WLAN / Wi-Fi channels are spaced 5 MHz apart (with the exception of a 12 MHz spacing between the last two channels). The 802.11 Wi-Fi standards specify a bandwidth of 22 MHz and channels are on a 5 MHz incremental step

So I put in a name and the same password that was under the box and just like that is starting work. Was I just lucky or is that the way it supposed to be. The only thing that I don't see a the second router is a internet light it's not on. Is that normal.

    Is there a way to connect multiple routers and have them all transmit on the same SSID seamlessly like the Mesh system they are advertising and selling these days???
    I guess there should be a way to do so, companies are just marketing this configuration as a "Mesh System" to sell more equipment and make more profit. Is like this setup you have showed us. In the past, companies will sell you a Extender instead of telling you could convert a router into an extender...

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The "Mesh system" is a hybrid WIFI configuration that tricks your WIFI devices to connect to the closest and therefore fastest WIFI access point. It does this by tracking your device and knowing which access point will give it the best signal. It's a pretty smart system and works well here is an example TP-Link (Deco M9 Plus) Smart Hub & Whole Home Mesh WiFi System at Amazon: amzn.to/2FwivbV Or eBay: goo.gl/tBcmeg It is not marketing hub but a solution to a problem that WIFI devices have in connecting to WIFI access points. You can run the same SSID on two routers in the same network but there is no guaranty that you will automatically connect to the closest one WIFI access point unless you are using a mesh enabled system. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.

    • @richardlloydusa
      @richardlloydusa  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We know the first and second router are working together so the issue is with the third router. Do a factory reset on the third router (check manufacturers site on how to do this) and configure it again. If that does not work check to see if there is a firmware update for the router. If there is update it. Make SURE you are updating the router with the right firmware (check manufacturers website on how to do this and follow directions EXACTLY on doing this) and try again. Improper firmware or incorrect installation of firmware can lead to your router not working at all. After you update the firmware (if needed) then try it again. Thank you for watching and commenting. I appreciate it greatly. All the best.👍😀
