Read anarchism and other essay by emma Goldman. This is veery interesting in breaking down social norms although parts are outdated due to it being written 100 years ago.Sorry for replying to this comment for some reason by phone won't let me reply generally.
I LOVE MASTER OF NONE, it's so well done. It's a narrative we've all seen before but told with so much authenticity, especially when pertaining to his experiences as an Indian-American. And yes, those last two episodes had me questioning everything about everything.
When I read that quote on your t shirt it suddenly hit me, am I not the only one that feels like that? that I am taking up too much space? I mean I've heard Hannah talk about it before, and other people, but its the only time I really considered it. Because I thought it was only me who felt too big; not too fat, well not entirely, but that I was too bossy, had too big of a personality, too big opinions, that I had to reign it in and squish it down. I had to be smaller, physically and in every other way, and be... more seen not heard I guess. So I guess I just want to say thank you, for suddenly making me see that I am entitled to all of this space.
Master of None is fantastic. The last scene of the series - the twist - ooooooh it's soooo fantastic. I've not seen Broadcity but MOF made me want to write a sitcom without knowing anything about how to as well.
Broad City is my jam! I don't watch TV that isn't cartoons but that show literally is a look into my future and the best depiction of female friendship hands down.
I recently opened up to someone that I love. It's a long story but the basics are, we were together then we broke up, I was rather unhappy for a long time, and then we started talking again and hanging out more and it wasn't until this happened that I realised that if it wasn't for her then I wouldn't be happy. So I told her how important she was to me and that I love her, and she said it back. It was a very surreal experience for me since no one outside my family has said it to me before. Also, it isn't that I love her in a romantic way, sure I got feelings when we started talking again but that is normal, right? I love her as a person, for who she is and the fact that she's in my life again.
I went into watching Master of None so casually, and then by the last two episodes I couldn't stop crying and the season finished and I just sat there staring at my black computer screen completely numb but also so awakened to what life is and what life could be?? gah.
OH MY GOD. Master of None is so good!!! I need to talk to more people who have seen it omg. THE FINAL TWO EPISODES KILLED ME. And oh my god when he's on the plane and you think he's going to her but he's NOT and ahhh it was insanely good. Hahaha love you Hannah x
I just watched Master of None recently myself. Reaaally enjoyed it. Aziz Ansari is great in it. Really enjoyed the story overall and the performances. I actually really like the actress who plays Rachel as well. Kinda appreciate that it wasn't super long either. So many shows to keep up with. And lol, book of mormon is great.
I highly recommend reading "The Science of Happily Ever After" by Ty Tashiro because he answers those questions you asked about love at the beginning of this video and I also really enjoyed reading it myself (it is nonfiction, mostly sociology/psychology based info).
+Hannah Witton Yeah I asked for advice with a boy, Jack pronounced my name wrong (but I forgave because drunk) and then you role played how I should have handled the situation, you're welcome, you can transfer a donation to the 'broke student who inspires great moments' trust if you like haha
Great video Hannah!! I would love to see you do a video with your thoughts on love and what you think about it like how you were saying why we do it and why we fall in love with the idea of a person more than the person themselves
Spectre was pretty good, although my memory is awful so I can't remember if I saw it in November or October... DeBoitton's a really great writer and philosopher. If you're questioning love, an absolute go to book would be Plato's Symposium. And if you've read it already, it's always worth reading again.
I really want to read "In Order to Live" now! I've read/heard of several North Korea books, but I hadn't heard of that one! Also that tote bag is so cute!
I agree with you so much on being interested in love! that is exactly what i have been experiencing. after i read modern romance its like i just want to keep digging for information and i feel so much more self aware. Anyways loved this vid! :)
omg yes! all the feels for master of none! and broad city has been one of my favorite shows for a while, esp. as a young new-yorker. They posted a mini-series online of episodes, too, to hold fans over before the new season comes out. I'm looking forward to checking out some more of your favorites this month, particularly the books. Thanks for the video, Hannah!
You should make a video about love! It'd be so interesting and I'm curious to here your own thoughts and some things you've read in "Essays in Love", especially since I've been questioning love myself too. For example, if gender is a social construct, how do we seemingly feel attraction to specific genders (with the exception of pansexuals/panromantics)? What does this mean about love or out interpretation of our feelings and hormones? If you can collect your thoughts into a somewhat concise video (I personally wouldn't mind it being longer, but it'd be a pain to edit and upload then wouldn't it?) please please do it.
+Sachiko Minsat I completely agree that the theories of gender and love/attraction are very interesting, although very difficult. But the whole "biology and social construct", basically nature or nurture and all that, becomes extremely complex when you look at gender, sexuality and love from a scientific point of view. I definitely have no answers, but they are interesting questions!
When you started talking about Yeonmi Park, all I could think about was what happened when Daniel J. Layton met her... Also, I've been waiting for the Winds of Winter for just over a year now - I have no idea how the people who read ADWD in 2011 have coped!
I studied de Botton's Art of Travel for year 12 this year and really enjoyed it and I'm currently reading Religion for Atheists which is also very good so far; I'll have to put Essays in Love. And Master of None was great
OMG I'm personal friends with Yeonmi!! We lived together for a month. She's the sweetest and most kind hearted person you'll ever meet! Love and miss you Yeonmi!!
Wow!! You are enamouring!! I saw/heard your laugh on the Sexplanation's video "Are You a Douchebag?" with Dr. Lindsey Doe. Your laugh with Sexplanation's annotation led me hear. Saw this video. Think you are swell. Subscribed. Awesome opossum. Even thought about buying the shirt, but I don't know what its context is yet.
Loved Master of None!! I totally forgot to put it in my favorites this month! It was so cool to watch after reading Modern Romance and seeing how he tied in what he learned from the research. Also, just added Yeonmi Park's book to my list of books to read, thanks for the recommendation :)
I am completely with you on the whole "questioning the concept of love", although I would alter the statement slightly to simply be regarding the type of love that refers to relationships with a sexual or sensual nature. (i.e. not friendships, family etc). It is very odd to observe (or take part in) the human mating rituals and see us attach so much complexity to it - And having issues with "commitment", both in wanting it desperately and avoiding it like the plague. It's something I often take a step back from to look at and question. I find myself asking if we're making it too difficult, or indeed if we should bother about it at all! Would be very interested to know more of your thoughts on the subject, it's a very interesting one although, I believe, slightly taboo as it's quite often simply disregarded as someone "being lonely and bitter".
Love sure is a strange one, isn't it? Nice to know I'm not the only one who questions it at every opportunity. I'm going to have to read Essays In Love, probably can't confuse me any more than I already am. Also, your new T-shirt looks amazing!
Master of none is so good I only watched it because I like him from parks and rec but it's actually so legit he talks about a lot of issues big and small and it makes you think a lot but also laugh
Hi Hannah, I read In Order To Live, like I told you I would (you probs don't remember lol). The order arrived yesterday at lunch time. I started reading it at 3:30pm, and couldn't put it down until I finished it at 1:40am last night. It was incredible.
Now you're up to date with A Song of Ice and Fire you might want to read Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas, it's good with the first two books but then in the last two it becomes absolutely fan-fucking-tastic! It has dragons, assassins and magic!!
+Adrian Jenn I just read that and it had so much potential as she can write well and had a good story setup but she ruined it with a pointless love traingle that took up half the book. The main character was excellent in all scenes that weren't her talking about boys and then as soon as she thought about them she became a horrible person to read about. That sort of thing only spoils an otherwise strong female lead character. Honestly, if the prince had been left out of the story entirely i would have lost absolutely nothing. And then later on she acts awful again and the author for some reason made an excellent potential father figure an awkward lover. It really spoiled the series for me
I have to disagree with you. I've read every book in the series and everything you've mentioned is not an issue for me and there definitely is no love triangle, I don't think there ever was tbh.
OH MY GOD YES! Read the throne of glass series because kick ass and I mean kicking every ass female lead. It's brilliant and has some of the best character development I've seen through a series.
I love Master of None and I've asked for Modern Romance for Christmas!! I told my house-mate about Master of None and he said "I don't like Aziz Ansari's comedy" and I couldn't convince him otherwise. One of his lecturers recommended it later so he eventually watched it now he loves Aziz Ansari haha
+Hannah Witton i'm not even offended at all! I personally haven't seen it but I've listened to the soundtrack and it's beautiful and one of my all time favourites! Of course there is a lot of things that aren't true, but it's comedy, and to be honest, it's just given us more to talk to people who aren't Mormons about and more advertisment in media :D
+Hannah Witton i've seen scenes of it, and it's literally so funny because missionaries (even if they're not allowed to be in relationships) do act that way witht their companions!
BROAD CITY IS MY FAVORITE. I'm so happy you watched it!! aah! However, I thought Master of None was actually kind of painfully bad. I love Aziz and I really support the social commentary he was going for. But I thought the dialogue was absolutely awful and most of the acting was also pretty bad. I gave up after maybe three episodes :/
+Karen Mae I agree about the acting I actually loved the show I thought it was really entertaining and very aziz but it feels so scripted. Obviously It is scripted as all shows are but they shouldn't feel like it.
+Karen Mae I agree!! I get that it was trying to go for a sort of, natural language, but it came across very awkward and tense. The ideas were really interesting but poorly delivered :(
Just so you know, yours are the only favourite videos I watch. Was that a sentence? They're interesting and not just make up shit. I also love the book recommendations, granted I haven't read any yet but im planning too 😂
I LOVE your favourites video! Will read and Watch Everything you said about love. I'm the same. Love - What the ffffff???? Love and hate it and also very confued and so on............ Thanx for the tips!
I find the way that you seek out such thought provoking media really inspiring. Yours are my favourite favourites videos! Keep being an awesome person :) Also, I don't read a lot of fanfiction but Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality by Less Wrong is an awesome read if you have the time (it's 1600 pages). If you're a fan of Ender's Game then you'll love it!
oh my god i watcht 6 videos or so and i truly love your style to do your videos you do it in a way i never seen befor i mean your so ... ah i can´t rite it cuz my english isn´t the best i´ll try do it simpel U ARE AWSOME!
can you do a video on masters of none with your thoughts and everything ( i dont mind if there are spoilers). Just wanted to know how you felt about the series. Thanks! keep up the good work x
Alain de Botton!! We studied his book the Art of Travel for English. That's also a really good read if you're interested in De Botton, he uses his own personal experiences in travel and literary references to analyse why human kind travels. I found it very profound however I was a bit disappointed in the limited racial perspective as he only uses men from the literary and art canon to allude to, kinda leaving out important facets of travel such as the necessity of travel by perhaps refugees or the culture of travel for people who belong to racial groups known for migrating like Indigenous Australians. But it is a good read nevertheless.
my favourite thing for November was Adrian Bliss' TH-cam series Vlogvember. Also can someone tell me what pegging is? I don't really want to Google it.
The big announcement dance was captioned "clucks like a chicken."
Read anarchism and other essay by emma Goldman. This is veery interesting in breaking down social norms although parts are outdated due to it being written 100 years ago.Sorry for replying to this comment for some reason by phone won't let me reply generally.

yesssss I loved Master of None - the episode of mornings was absolutely heartbreaking
My mum also visited me recently and brought me an advent calendar. Mum's are the best.

omg Master's of None is amazing and Broad City is my FAVORITE show! Literally bust a gut funny.
I absolutely love Master of None, from the sixth ep it becomes incredible, can't wait for the second season
I was like three rows away from Rocky Horror, and it was so good.
Just finished Master of None and I totally agree with what you said. Those last episodes = aaaah.

I highly recommend reading "The Science of Happily Ever After" by Ty Tashiro because he answers those questions you asked about love at the beginning of this video and I also really enjoyed reading it myself (it is nonfiction, mostly sociology/psychology based info).
I just finished Master of None yesterday and freaked about it after the finale- it was amazing!
Yaaaas! That shirt! I do reference it to my friends all the time, they never fully get it...
I love how it was my question in drunk advice that inspired 'I am entitled to all this space'; feel like I need a share of the profits...
+Hannah Witton Yeah I asked for advice with a boy, Jack pronounced my name wrong (but I forgave because drunk) and then you role played how I should have handled the situation, you're welcome, you can transfer a donation to the 'broke student who inspires great moments' trust if you like haha
I just finished reading 1984 by George Orwell, and the thing you said about language in North Korea. Wow.
Great video Hannah!! I would love to see you do a video with your thoughts on love and what you think about it like how you were saying why we do it and why we fall in love with the idea of a person more than the person themselves

When you started talking about Yeonmi Park, all I could think about was what happened when Daniel J. Layton met her...
Also, I've been waiting for the Winds of Winter for just over a year now - I have no idea how the people who read ADWD in 2011 have coped!

your book recommendations are always so good, I always go on a mission to WHSmiths after watching your favourites🙈
YAY FAVOURITES SO HAPPY

I LOVE broad city holy shit. i was so excited when you said that you were watching it.
You RULE.
Love sure is a strange one, isn't it? Nice to know I'm not the only one who questions it at every opportunity. I'm going to have to read Essays In Love, probably can't confuse me any more than I already am.
Also, your new T-shirt looks amazing!
I'm halfway through A Feast For Crows right now and I just. I'm already anxious about TWOW, I don't know how people who are done are coping?
Master of none is so good I only watched it because I like him from parks and rec but it's actually so legit he talks about a lot of issues big and small and it makes you think a lot but also laugh
I looooove your hair 😍 Do a q and a soon pleaaaaase???☺

Hi Hannah, I read In Order To Live, like I told you I would (you probs don't remember lol). The order arrived yesterday at lunch time. I started reading it at 3:30pm, and couldn't put it down until I finished it at 1:40am last night. It was incredible.
have you watched sense8?
I loooooved sense 8 😍
Why do I love your channel so much?!? I just really like you😆😆
Now you're up to date with A Song of Ice and Fire you might want to read Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas, it's good with the first two books but then in the last two it becomes absolutely fan-fucking-tastic!
+Adrian Jenn or Queen of the Tearling!!! Such a great series!
+Adrian Jenn Yes!! Awesome series!
you are gonna send me in a mental downward spiral about love hannah
Hannah, have you read Without you There is no us by Suki Kim about her time teaching in North Korea? Great read! Also, I loved Master of None!
30 books in a year. Completely impressive
Master of None is INSANELY good. EVERYONE WATCH IT. 'Mornings' could even be a stand alone short film, so good.
You should do a video all about master of none because i just watched it and loved it and i would also like to hear your opinions on it
you are everything i want in a friend!
Hannah, do you have a goodreads so I can follow what you're reading? I always love your recommendations!
What is pegging? Loved this video as always and love the t-shirt! I'm entitled to all of this space is definitely my favourite quote! xx
i love it when people watch Book of Mormon,, because, as a Mormon, i find it so hilarious. the musical is one of the funniest things ever
Current favourite is series 9 of Doctor Who. SO MUCH BETTER than series 8
I really want to read "Order TO Live" now !
Yeeees Master Of None is amazing, I need to make my friends watch it too :)
BROAD CITY IS MY FAVORITE. I'm so happy you watched it!! aah! However, I thought Master of None was actually kind of painfully bad. I love Aziz and I really support the social commentary he was going for. But I thought the dialogue was absolutely awful and most of the acting was also pretty bad. weell... I might go back to it if I run out of other shows. Your reaction to the ending has definitely intrigued me
+Karen Mae I agree about the acting I actually loved the show I thought it was really entertaining and very aziz but it feels so scripted. Obviously It is scripted as all shows are but they shouldn't feel like it.
+Karen Mae I agree!! I get that it was trying to go for a sort of, natural language, but it came across very awkward and tense. The ideas were really interesting but poorly delivered :(
Someone needs to go get Caitlin Moran to come and hang out with Hannah again so they can write a TV series together.
Just so you know, yours are the only favourite videos I watch. Was that a sentence? They're interesting and not just make up shit. I also love the book recommendations, granted I haven't read any yet but im planning too 😂
Isn't Yoenmi Park the woman Daniel J. Layton offended by minimizing her struggle for freedom by saying "There are worse places to live." ?
Yeah she was
I think so! that's what came to mind anyway haha
Yup.
What video did he say that in?
+Chloe Jeong "Story Time: Park And Humiliation"
You're too adorable Hannah! I love your favourite videos :) x
