  • VESAK is a special day for most of the people in Sri Lanka.Reason for that is the birth, enlightenment and pass away of Lord Buddha .In Vesak day, many people work closely and together with the temple. They try to short their existence journey and make their way to Nirvana.During the night, they consecrate flowers, incense sticks and lamps to remind Lord Buddha's boundless merits. Also we make Vesak lanterns using bamboo pipes. It is a very common sight in the houses during Vesak season. In this video,I will make a beautiful Vesak lantern using only natural materials.Let your child make a Vesak light it up with a lamp. Then show him how the lantern coggling in the wind and igniting. It will help him to understand the transitoriness of the life.As they get older, they will have the energy they need to balance life in a meaningful way. This little thing may be enough not only for your child, but for you to break free from this harrowing journey.
According to our traditions,"Kiri Amma Danaya" is given as a charity for the Mother Paththini. In this charity,a food called "Kiriya" takes a special place. It is a very tasty food. Also "Kiriya" is a one of favourite food among my family members.I hope you will like it too.In this recipe, I used dates, which is how I usually make my home. This recipe can vary from place to place.
May the Triple Gem Bless You
