- John Cena is one of the few WWE stars that has never turned heel after becoming the face of the company, Hogan, Rock and even Austin all had heel turns, but for some reason John Cena never did what so many people hoped he would. He never became the bad guy.. but today I go back to 2013 and try to think of a way to do the John Cena heel turn and actually make it work. Lets check it out!

The only time we got John Cena as a heel was 2006 going against ECW around One Night Stand 2006. One of the greatest periods in wrestling history

No the foreign market and make a wish foundation is why he stayed a face. He did turn heel in 2002. The people who hate him are a small group. Mostly American fans and some European fans. The rest of the fan base worldwide loves the guy. Most of the foreign market fans are traditional in the sense that they cheer the face and boo the heel no matter who or what. Heel merch only moves major units in America and some European markets. Cena goes heel they lose a fuckload of money. On top of that, they don't have a bigger star to replace him.

Damn. The heel turn we never got again. Imagine if they pushed through with the heel turn of Cena during his feud with The Rock. They should turn Cena heel as we all know that the big names turned heel at one point to make their characters fresh and less stale. But booking wise, it should make sense. We know how the E books things then change it up last minute.
I dead ass thought he was going to turn after their match at Wrestlemania 28 (wasn't that the going rumor?), would've made their rematch at Wrestlemania 29 a shit ton more interesting than the nonsense we got.

@@rokaanalzeer7148 him beating the rock wouldn't make a difference on anything, the rock was part timing, and barely shows, it sets up nothing, he got his win back at 29, without the heel turn being needed, so it doesn't matter at this point
Worst part is he was all for a heel turn in 2012 but he told Vince there’s no going back and it was scrapped
Oh man, the one topic we always ask and wonder given how much interesting potential it had, especially in Cena’s prime as the face of the company, during 2010-2015. It could’ve gave us lots of memorable moments that we will most likely talk about to this day. Oh well, it is what it is.
This is why I enjoyed Austin's heel run. It was short, experimental at best and had a lot of special moments rather than a legitimate dominant run. It's difficult to book marquee stars differently if they're so good at what they do. That's why it took so long to make a face Randy Orton work.
As per this booking, the only thing I would change is give the Authority a more prominent role, have them interfere at the WM match then have Sting return to make the save. I would've had Cena turn heel around 2016, but I don't know much about that time period to book something better than that.
Austin was always a heel that got cheered that’s why rock and Austin were so good they had no filters but fans just loved them

Austin turning heel actually hurt the business. Nobody was ready to hate him yet. His turn did not receive a positive reaction. They didn't hate him. They hated the booking. Even Austin himself has said if he could go back and do it over again. He would have called an audible right there in the ring flip Vince off and delivered a stunner. He had creative control in his contract so he could have done it on the spot. Vince wouldn't have fired him anyway because he was making him too much damn money.

This heel turn sort of reminds me of Batista's heel turn of how he was salty that Cena became the face that runs the place and here Cena is salty that Bryan was on track to replace him as the top face.
Difference is Cena and Batista came in together. Cena already made his mark as a legend when it was Bryan’s time to be the guy
Bryan was never on track to replace Cena as the top guy though, that was more WWE putting the belt on Bryan to appease the crowd. Roman Reigns was always meant to be the guy who replaced John Cena

Then i saw John cena, and he was my hero. Yes, I never saw his world title runs but I loved seeing him as us champ. I have seen him live twice: In 2015, and 2021. Thank you for your great content!

This sounds so good, if this did happen in real life it would have been great and it revisited many feuds that now had roles switched and Bryan winning is even bigger in this run than real life and Sting returning to take out Cena make a lot of sense, you did a great job booking a Cena heel run which is hard to do because thinking of something that would work isn't easy
While I love this booking, the perfect moment to turn Cena heel was in late 2011/ early 2012, I would love a part 2 to this, how would you book heel Cena in 2012?
I feel like a good time to turn him heel was in mid 2012 when he had the briefcase. Could have made people believe he was gonna be fair. Until the time comes he attacks punk from behind(cause punk was a face by that time), puts him in the stf until he passes out then cashes in.

Nope, the perfect time was when he lost to the Rock. Have 2012 be the worst year of his life as he gets beaten by Rock, Lesnar and Punk.
And then 2013, he snaps and turns heel by cheating to break the streak against Taker at Wrestlemania.
@@Damballa_ him being leader of the shield is so terrible and hilarious, cena doesn't respect roman or dean, dean hinted at it in his promo, so why would they want to work under his wing, it was smart no one managed shield bc they got over by themselves and that is the proper way to book future talent guys, if cena got involved that faction potentially fails, cena's best chance with a heel faction was nexus

Personally i’d book him in this way, he loses to The Rock at Mania 28, and then then he continues to lose more matches until money in the bank where Cena wins the MITB and next week he dishonourably cashes in the money in the bank on Raw in CM Punk’s match (it can be be against anyone personally i’d say Alberto Del Rio or someone else from the MITB match), when Punk is down he cashes in and gets the belt. Then i wouldn’t want like the old Thuganomics Cena no a different one with a different theme and no rap. A Darker side of Cena or something…This would be my own personal imaginary booking for his Heel run.

We didn't get the heel turn, but it's never too late. At this point in his career it's absolutely possible, he needs to reinvent himself before retiring.
He really doesn’t have a reason to anymore as much as I would like for him to turn heel. He’s part time, and hardly wrestles anymore and gets a standing ovation every time he does and is well too respected now. If this was back in 2013 in his prime when he was still getting booed occasionally then I would agree.

it wouldn't work if they book him incorrectly, I can see it fail in a way, its not as simple as just seeing cena be mean or do bad things, you see him do that always and cut the same promos all while being solo he could get sort of stale

My Cena heel turn headcanon would have been a Homelander type character. He sees Bryan getting beaten up and he comes back from injury and destroys Bryan to get the title back, because he thinks he's the only good guy who's not gonna get screwed by the Authority. A bad guy thinking he's good...
I haven't watched wwe sence 2011 and the only thing that kept me watching that long was the possibility of a john cena heel turn its funny looking back at how everyone was tired of him but when he's not there anymore then they dont have anyone to hate.
I do agree if we were going to get a heel turn for Cena it would have been perfect around the Yes Movement but the moment we did get was great with Bryan defying the odds against Triple H, Batista and Orton all in the same night. I think it’s fine we didn’t get a prime cena heel, he got a chance to be a heel early in his career and wanted to then be a face and a hero and not turn his back to that which I say all respect to him for that

Best Cena heel turn for me would be "Cena vs The Streak" at WrestleMania and after multiple F5's there's a low blow and a few chair shots with an unconscious referee.
I would've book Heel Cena around 2018ish and form a faction with Orton, Miz and maybe bring back Batista and he steals Charlotte as his girl and he's pretty much Drip Cena and starts acting like Ric Flair to show off his next title reign which will be over Flair's

I think you did well with the booking until you got to the heel Cena part. I think having a more delusional Cena that thinks he’s done the right thing would work better. He lost his title and he believes he deserves it back. Over time, thanks to the backing of the Authority and the audience getting to him, he then can finally make himself a full heel in time for the Wrestlemania program. Good stuff though bud

The primetime for Cena to turn heel would of been post Mania 28 after losing to The Rock. Here's my booking:
After losing at Mania 28 and losing to Brock Lesnar at Extreme Rules and losing every match on RAW, Cena somehow wins a #1 contendership to face CM Punk at Over the Limit 2012 in an I Quit match. Of course Cena recognizes his losing streak and the usual polarizing fanfare he recieves, and the crowd obviously likes CM Punk more. Their first promo encounter involves CM Punk mentioning "I'm 2-0 against you on PPV so far" and "come on do your usual rise above hate crap you always say and let the fans boo you even more!", and surprisingly Cena says no words and just leaves the ring. In the weeks following Cena refuses interviews and you just get a shot of his locker room door closed. Then when it's time for the match I think having Cena actually say I Quit would shock everyone but immediately after the match when CM Punk turns his back to celebrate John Cena absolutely goes ballistic on him, completely obliterates him with steel chairs, kendo sticks, chokes him with a chain, and puts him through the announce table. As CM Punk is being carried out on a stretcher John Cena then addresses the bewildered crowd, "yeah I said I Quit....but it was on my terms, I didn't quit on myself, I quit on all of you, for so long I've tried to live up to your expectations....now everyone is living in my world now.....fear my name...." and then the show fades to black. At the following PPV Cena once again faces CM Punk and very decisively defeats CM Punk. The following months would be similar to Triple H's heel reign of terror. And by Mania 29 a babyface would be primed and ready to dethrone heel Cena.
it's funny cuz that fear my name phrase was actually trademarked by WWE back in 2012 and he even had a new heel theme but Vince got cold feet about a Cena heel turn.
An even more shocking heel turn would of been Cena cheating to beat the Undertaker's streak at Mania 29 or 30.
Really interesting way to go about it!
Maybe the Wrestlemania card looks something like this
Cena V Bryan for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Bray V Taker
(Have Bray end the streak)
HHH V Batista/Randy
(since Batista has always wanted that match, plus takes place 5 years earlier with both still able to go, or have Randy V HHH since he got kicked out the authority)
Brock V Randy/Batista
(Depending on who HHH faces other can face Brock. Randy V Brock would be appropriate for WM especially since they wouldn’t have faced before and I’m sure everyone would love a Batista V Brock match)
Fiend should have beaten undertaker for the streak not Bray who one year ago got buried by cena at wm30
The streak should’ve never ended in my opinion but otherwise bray vs taker would be a good match here but have Taker win
