It wouldn’t have ruined the surprise nearly as much if the anime hadn’t added additional scenes, since a lot of people don’t notice if a voice is the same, especially in the sub. They were really cool and built up the hype as a manga reader, but for anime onlys who watched GoE they indeed mostly spoiled the twist. Whereas in the manga for a long time it was a mystery of “is it this character or this character? Or is it just a new character?” At the same time though, it’d be a shame to skip GoE because not only is it just a fun watch and a good bridge between the SDS and 4KOTA, But it really nicely builds on Tristan’s character and sets up his story arc. And also it serves as a substitute introduction for the other character, since his original character introduction and backstory oneshot was never animated. Despite being like really important. So while manga fans had already met this character going into the sequel and were eagerly waiting for his reappearance and to see where his story goes, anime fans never got to meet him or have that anticipation build up. All they would have got to know going into the sequel was his name and that he was a character that existed out there somewhere. That’s where GoE is really important, because it serves as a substitute introduction that also introduces and touches on a lot of the same plot points that the original oneshot did, while also being an original story and canon continuation of it. So anime onlys are caught up to speed and now just as excited to see this character come back, and manga readers get new content and more answers to questions the oneshot and main manga introduced. And more questions too lol
