Musicians for musicians My favorite by them is The Count of Tuscany. That will blow your mind. And now, i need to go hear it again. 20 years and i still hear something new every time
DT is the new Rush. Nerdy musicians like us are 90% of their fanbase, and they deserve a proper rabbit hole on your channel. This is a tame song from them, but a solid one to see what they are about. If you want to see how proggy they get check out their instrumental Dance of Eternity LIVE. If you want a long journey check out their songs "A Change of Seasons" or their song "Octavarium." Mind blowing! The guitarist's biggest heroes are Alex Lifeson of Rush, Steve Morse, Neil Schon, Alan Holdsworth, and Al Dimeola. The keys player Jordan Rudess went to Julliard at age 9 for classical composition. He is every bit of what you would imagine a child prodigy becoming. The more you go down the DT hole, the more you see that Jordan is one of the greatest keys players alive.
@@fatalrailgun9972 New meaning they would always be #2 if Rush was still a band. Rush would outsell them any day as the biggest prog band of the past 40 years. DT is now #1 world wide. I saw DT on the M2 SFAM tour, 6 Degrees, Octavarium, TOT, and on the Black Clouds era, but only once with Mangini. It didn't feel right.
Thank you for the reaction! Those "Mindblowing runs" in the solo is in unison. Petrucci and Rudess do that together. DT is famous for that. They did it 1989 on "Where dream and day unite" album (but then of course it was Kevin Moore on keys). This is a genre defining band.
@@bobcieslinski Among the musicians they are highly praised. You can just watch one of the bandmembers and be amazed. You said in your video that a part was influenced by RUSH. And yes, they are. They took RUSH and YES to another dimension.
Welcome to Dream Theater, Bob! I first heard them in the 90s when MTV's Headbanger's Ball played the video for "Pull Me Under." I've seen them twice, but it's been a while. I plan to see them again on their current 40th anniversary tour. For most of that time, they've been the measuring stick that other bands are compared to. I've seen fans of Japanese bands like LOVEBITES, Galneryus, Unlucky Morpheus all say that those bands are as "talented as Dream Theater."
If you want to be blown away, Dance of Eternity, with like 100 different time signatures at least. If you want to hear the vocalist really sing, the song Voices, off of their album Awake.
They are just a dream, for real - makes you smile! Every song being a smörgåsbord of delights, I highly recommend checking out their other songs... Thanks Bob!
One of my Army buddies introduced me to these guys when we were in Kosovo in 2002. I really like them, but their music really sucks me in, so it's hard for me to listen to a full album while I'm trying to focus on other things (my brain is definitely not multi-threaded). This was the first time I've heard this new song. Very cool!
I didn’t know you were in the Army. Thanks for everything you do and did. You made a difference for all of us. Glad you enjoyed this I was impressed too.
I think you’d really enjoy the instrumental band from most of their members, Liquid Tension Experiment. Where the Water Breaks is one of the most musically impressive songs I’ve ever heard
First time seeing a video of yours. You just gained a subscriber. Welcome to the world of Dream Theater. "Everyone in this band is just so good". Yup, that's the usual reaction for every first time listener lol.
Thanks for the reaction!!! I really enjoyed! This is the best so far for this song on YT! DT is an incredibly good band. They have many outstanding songs. I hope you do reactions to some of them, I'll be looking forward to it. I suggest the video: Breaking All Illusions - live from Boston Opera House. Amazing live performance, better than album recording, beleave me.
I cant belive we've never made you listen to DT before. Their drummer just came back, one of the original members, although the drummer they had for the past dozen years or so is also great. You need to listen to the following from them: Illumination Theory, Octavarium, Pale Blue Dot, A Change of Seasons, The Count of Tuscany, Metropolis pt I. And many more. 40 years of incredible musicianship
Dream Theater is prog metal. Yes, they all can play, lol , been at it for almost 40 years. That drummer, is Mike Portnoy.🥁. He's one of my all time favorites, up there with RUSH's Neil Peart. This is the first song released since he rejoined the band last year after 13 years away. Mike, guitarist John Petrucci and bassist John Myung formed the band in 1985 at Berklee Music College. Being prog, RUSH is definitely an influence, along with YES and Pink Floyd, plus metal bands like Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. They started out covering RUSH and Iron Maiden. Lead singer James LaBrie came in 1991 for the 2nd album. You heard James recently, he was the first singer in the Ayreon song "The Day That The World Breaks Down". Jordan Rudess is their 3rd keyboardist , and has been with them since 1999. Yes, Lead single from the upcoming album, their 16th, due out in Feb, it's called Parasomnia. Very much looking forward to it. I found them when I saw the video for "Pull Me Under", from the 2nd album Images and Words, on mtv's Headbangers Ball, back when it came out in 1992. This song is reminding me of that album, and the intro for this gave me a Black Sabbath feel. You mentioned their changes here, they do that very well. They have one instrumental song, called "The Dance of Eternity" with over 100 time signature changes, in just over 6 minutes. If you want to check out more, suggest going back to the 2nd album, with "Metropolis Part 1" , "Under a Glass Moon" , or the above mentioned "Pull Me Under".
Dream Theater is my favourite band of all time. Their earlier influences are Rush, Yes, Iron Maiden, and Queensryche, Images And Words is an album that is a must listen, James Labrie's vocals during that period were something else, Awake as well. Night Terror is a great song.
This song is a pretty good intro into the band You should definitely check out some songs from the albums Metropolis, Train of thought, Dramatic change of events, Six degrees etc. Theyre known for thier longer songs, (some 20+ min) Theyre all insane at their respective intrument and are huge inspirations to me personally
Bob, I began like you here, in 1992. I heard Pull Me Under on a Los Angeles prog radio Sunday program called Star Tracks. At the beginning, my ears perked up, who the F are these guys???!!! And yes, it began with the drums! I had grown tired of 10 years of Rush moving away from Moving Pictures era music. These guys are Yes, and Rush fans! Much more to their history, the founding member/drummer leaving for 15 years, and is now back home! Enjoy your DT journey like I have over the past 32 years, they are now touring their 40th anniversary tour.
If you ever listen to progressive rock then you will definitely love progressive metal and Dream Theater is one of the best at it since we no longer have Rush. I have their entire collection and it never gets boring like most bands do, that's what I love about Lovebites and Dream Theater. Go all the way back to 1992 with Images and Words that's when James Le Brie joined Dream Theater and listen to Under A Glass Moon, Wait for Sleep, and Learning To Live and be ready to be blown away
One of the best bands live. Consider watching some Liquid Tension Experiment. Combines Portnoy (drums) Rudess (keys) Petrucci(lead) and Tony Levin (bass. not in this current line-up). An instrumental super-group.

My first introduction to them as well and I was impressed! Well, I guess indirectly I was introduced to Dream of Eternity through Unlucky Morpheus. Nice guitar/keyboard leads, great drumming, and I guess the "theater" would be like the theme, more Pink Floyd perhaps. Really enjoyed this one!
