It is hard to compare jumping off a cage onto another person to just about anything else, but hesitation or pulling back can get you seriously hurt in a lot of sports. Happens all the time on the MTB trail - people panic brake at the base or lip of a jump and lose all their forward momentum, usually resulting in a long drop or a face first slam. I don't know if the spot was supposed to be an elbow or a splash, but fear definitely took over.
This year I had a much smaller fall than this and landed straight on my right heel. Couldn't walk right for a month and 3 months later, my knee is still aching and I'm only 25, though granted I didn't break anything. I haven't seen the clip yet, but one thing I'd note is, I heard Edge retired because of a messed up neck so Stevie was mentioning the risks of over rotating and hurting your elbow or head (for a person with no injury history) but I'm sure someone with neck injuries would try to be extra aware of anything that could be a risk to their neck

3:40 that’s what I was thinking too. People no-sell in AEW all the time. Would’ve been perfectly normal for Black to hop up off of that table like nothing happened to prevent Edge from hurting himself.
Not only did he under rotate he started to go backwards as like to senton Black. From this angle it looked like Edges legs started going under the table before it broke.
It seemed like he was half in and afraid of hurting Malaki from landing on him and hurting himself as Malaki was covered in barbed wire. I think the barbed wire element made the bump way more dangerous and added to the hesitation and trying to protect Malaki/himself
Man, that reminds me of seeing Randy Savage on top of the cage getting ready for his elbow drop. I don't see how any of these guys aren't crippled in the ring even though many of them will be after they retire.
When Stevie was talking about legends getting younger talent over, he’s assuming that Edge is doing that, when he isn’t. Ever since he returned in 2020, the only feud he’s lost was to Roman
Absolutely ridiculous and unnecessary spot for a wrestler of any age, let alone someone in their 50s. Shocking that Adam thought this was a good idea with all of his experience.
The difference is, WWE plans out spots. Aew, the wrestlers just throw ideas and tony says cool. If someone told Vince they weren't sure about a spot and he went to do it and said no, then it wouldn't be done.
Wasn't there barbed wire involved in this spot too? I heard that he intentionally dropped like this because he didn't want to hurt himself by diving onto barbed wire from that height.
Just watched a video where Edge was talking about that Ladder spear spot...I guess they did do it once on a random show before that PPV, and guess what..he landed on his legs & it didn't look very good (& lucky he didn't hurt himself)
I wanted to be in the buisness. Stevie once nicely as ever anyone said no in philly. Lol. Thank u stevie. Now i have a career i can retire from. Philly honest tough love love u!
I think he wanted to get his hands down to brace himself on Black and the table when he hit (think of it like you are looking down giving a diamond cutter signal to your cat) - But once he jumped his hands involuntarily wanted to go up towards his face and neck - and he was unable to override that mentally so it was straight down to the mat.
Adam seems a lovely man, would never want to see him injured. And Edge is of course in a class of his own. But frankly, the status he has confers the power to prioritise his own body & brand over his employer. He had the money, clout and respect not to have to do this, and by choosing his ego and doing it anyway, he inconvenienced his familly and set an awful example to his junior workers in the locker-room.
I saw Kevin Owens at msg on smackdown do the swanton from the top of the tunnel and I was thinking man I hope he didnt break anything. He's 40 years old, these guys think they're still in their 20s
Excellent analysis!!! You know most men get smarter as they get older. That's why they call them "wise old men". This does not seem to be the case with some professional wrestlers like Edge. Time to hang up the boots and retire Edge. Your ego is not your amigo.
The fact that TK and AEW allow a middle age man to do THIS, no matter if would have gone right or not, is stupid,is sad that Edge who is a professional couldn't understand before this that was a BAD IDEA, he should know better, but in the end Tony is the one who should always approve what dangerous spots are done, as if anything goes WRONG is on TK head this will fall down, so he can't allow people take THIS LEVEL OF RISK specially someone who is already old, no matter who he is, what accomplished have done, it doesn't matter, you say NO.....this could have ended the same way Sid Vicious broke his leg on WCW thankfully wasn't that bad but still, is dumb this was allow to happen.
Dave heath is not underrated as a person. He is one of my favorite people in the wrestling business. Anyone who's ever seen an interview or heard him talk at any length can tell how nice of a guy he is.
How many guys have gotten injured there in unnecessary spots? Eddie kingston, edge Matt hardy,Dante Martin, Jeff hardy, Brian danielson. The list goes on and on.
Why did they go after Stevie's old channel so hard with the copyright claims but not this channel or someone like Mavens channel? It seems like they were singling him out
Probably because a lot of channels can be dismissed as opinion but Stevie was basically scientifically analysing wrestlers to the point of dangerous ideas being indefensible.
Honestly if i was Edge and second guessing myself and didn't wanna bail out, I probably wouldve done either a Superfly Splash, or a Diving Legsdrop. Yes they are both just as dangerous but i know that A.) The Splash i would land on Aleister Black on my stomach, B.) with the Leg drop id be landing on Aleister Black and most likely won't overshoot it. Same with the splash i wouldn't overshoot it. This elbow drop once i saw him jump feet first i knew he was gonna get injured.
WWE cages usually have a platform in the corners for the wrestlers to jump off of. Didn't seem like that AEW cage have much for him to stand on up there to get footing to get a jump off 😢

Not only did he under rotate he started to go backwards as like to senton Black. From this angle it looked like Edges legs started going under the table before it broke.
More of this. Way more of this.
Short synopsis:
“He left WWE for AEW”
It seemed like he was half in and afraid of hurting Malaki from landing on him and hurting himself as Malaki was covered in barbed wire. I think the barbed wire element made the bump way more dangerous and added to the hesitation and trying to protect Malaki/himself
I’m pretty sure he was trying an. Elbow drop not a regular splash
With barbed wire involved. It was a stupid spot that didn't need to be done, especially if it wasn't the finish.
Total BS.
Wasn't there barbed wire involved in this spot too? I heard that he intentionally dropped like this because he didn't want to hurt himself by diving onto barbed wire from that height.
Your bones and muscles are two different things. I don't care how much TRT you are on, your bone density starts to decline as you approach 50.
Just watched a video where Edge was talking about that Ladder spear spot...I guess they did do it once on a random show before that PPV, and guess what..he landed on his legs & it didn't look very good (& lucky he didn't hurt himself)
Not an AEW watcher, but still heard about Edge. Honestly didn't even know Gangrel showed, never heard it. Know what I did hear? Edge breaking his leg.
What went wrong? He’s in his 50s and jumped off the top of a cage. Lesson over -thanks for watching!
I wanted to be in the buisness. Stevie once nicely as ever anyone said no in philly. Lol. Thank u stevie. Now i have a career i can retire from. Philly honest tough love love u!
Stevie prob dont remember but u my fav for being a philly guy. Helped someone that dont belong being saved from new jack. U the man stevie!
Dr. Stevie out here saving countless lives
Over/under on the copyright strike? I have it at a week
What went wrong is he went up there to do that in the first place. Horrible idea.
That is tough to watch. Wow
What went right?
Why is a 50 year old guy even trying this ? Not nessisary
Necessary*
@@garymaidman625 I knew that was coming.
@@distantstorm3808 I couldn't resist 🤷
@@garymaidman625 Yes, and it was absolutely nessisary on this occasion.

Ego+conditioning to a reckless culture+fear of mortality+cumulative head trauma
He didn't need to do this. I like Edge and still think he's got a little still left in the tank but yeah, horrible idea. Wish him the best.
James never noticed how yoked you were no diddy.
How many guys have gotten injured there in unnecessary spots? Eddie kingston, edge Matt hardy,Dante Martin, Jeff hardy, Brian danielson. The list goes on and on.
In one angle you see his foot hits the barbed wire slightly, which does mess with the trajectory of the maneuver
I think Edge was at a point that he wanted to break his legs 🦵 to get paid time off.The guy is up there on age.
and Brisco did the same thing this weekend...but he got lucky.
Jay looking out for him
Why did they go after Stevie's old channel so hard with the copyright claims but not this channel or someone like Mavens channel? It seems like they were singling him out
Probably because a lot of channels can be dismissed as opinion but Stevie was basically scientifically analysing wrestlers to the point of dangerous ideas being indefensible.
Not sure if using crowd footage covers them.. I'd guess not entirely but I've seen James do this with Dutch aswell
Can't believe Horseface hasn't tried to copyright strike this video yet.
Neigh!
“Unfortunately he went”
No shame in climbing down and attacking him. In hindsight they still could have broken the table
@@adamirishconundrum851 the slayer entrance was so sweet
Dude had no business up there simple.
I think What's his name needed to move over and let Edge have a little more of that table to land on.
WWE cages usually have a platform in the corners for the wrestlers to jump off of. Didn't seem like that AEW cage have much for him to stand on up there to get footing to get a jump off 😢
How long till this is taken down?
AEW! AEW! AEW!
They made sure to use fan cam footage so they shouldn't be able to take it down
At least we got to see it before it gets copyrighted
@@oakT800 gotcha
He climbed to the top and when he jumped he said to himself "Oh dear!"
