      @@beanverse Thank you for the kind comments. Filming / editing etc quite a steep learning curve. My best advise is start with what you might already have like a smart phone. I use a cheap Moto G which has a descent camera for filming. Add a mic ( I list a couple I use from Boya ) and try using some free editing software like Filmora 11 just to get started. If you click with it then spend a little more on kit. I use a simple set up and list this in my description too. Happy painting and filming 😀😀

    Thank you so much for sharing this! I struggle wih loading the brushes properly and the angle and strength of how i apply them to the canvas to create foliage and such. Your tips on how to wiggle and push the brush up into the paint, showing the loaded brush, describing how it should look, and then how to angle it on the canvas, is glorious!

    This was awesome Paul, this is what I enjoy about paintings like this, the start makes absolutely no sense, which made it fun for anyone that watched me do mine, but near the end of each piece everyone got that "ooohhhhhh" reaction, they really didn't realise a painting emerged from the supposed "mess" at the start, and yes, happy accidents really do offer some surprising options, I've helped many students fix little mishaps, those were some fun times 😊😊

    • @PaulRansonArt
      @PaulRansonArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its fun to see how a painting emerges from a bit of a pickle. Sometimes I don't know either and I'm often the passenger at the end of the brush. All part of the joy of painting. 😀😀

    Paul, Your videos and teaching style are great! The encouragement through the process is greatly appreciated. I do have one request. Is it possible to post a picture of the finished painting? This is a big help for me, and possibly others, during the painting process. It also helps with scaling the painting to the canvas one is using if a picture of the painting is handy for reference. It is also a big inspirational help. Thanks for your hard work!

    Absolutely beautiful painting, Paul. I think the toughest part (for me anyway) will be blending the proper colors together to get the intended result, such as with highlights. I guess that will come in time with experience, and perhaps doing some basic research into which color combinations you'd need to mix to get another color. Thank you for your videos, they're the absolute best on all of TH-cam! Cheers,

      Thanks Steve. Colour mixing and combinations will become familiar the more you paint. It's the same for any job or pastime. I asked my Dad a question when I was a kid - about his job as a dentist. I asked him if there was anything he found too hard to do after so many years in the job. He said 'No not really' I said 'What about a tooth you couldn't pull? 'Oh'he said, 'That easy -I just hammer them in so no one can see them!' 😃😎🤔🤗

    Good Morning Paul! I commented awhile back on how stunning this painting is-I’m attempting to paint it. I do have a question though, if you don’t mind? The dark background on the right is black gesso, no problem. Are there other colors in the background, like the alizarin crimson and VDB? Or just the liquid clear? I see that as the painting progresses, these colors show up a bit and help with the illusion of depth-in BR’s version he used AC and VDB (I believe) in that area as well and no LC? Can you help me?
    Many thanks! (Cup of coffee on the way for your trouble!)

    • @PaulRansonArt
      @PaulRansonArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Karl - Have a peek at the colours from time stamp 3:20. The use of Liquid clear was an idea that came along later in the evolution of the technique. Bob realised how difficult it was to make a thin even glaze with paint out of the tube hence the birth of liquid clear. It can be used for any of the paintings Bob did where he painted transparent colours over a black gesso. In my second effort I re applied liquid clear and use indiamn yellow. and let it bleed over into the black gesso before adding A.C/Sienna mix and finally the VDB. Its a subtle change to Bob's version and the colours show up on camera a bit more that in real life. - Hope that helps😃😃

      Paul! Thank you SO very much! Now it makes sense, totally! I will attempt it today on a practice panel in a run up to a canvas! Your worst mistakes could be my best painting. One question. Why use black gesso, why not black paint ? By the same logic, why use white paint, instead of white gesso ? Would appreciate an answer.

    • @PaulRansonArt
      @PaulRansonArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your kind comments and questions which I'll try and answer. This style of painting uses oils which when highlighting over dry background like black gesso the colours really jump off the canvas without picking up wet black paint. In contrast, the soft background on the left is painting on a wet white oil based background. This makes it easier to create a soft glowing and distant look to the trees and bushes which I do want to mix with the background. Hope this helps - look forward to seeing you for the next painting 🤗🤗

    • @PaulRansonArt
      @PaulRansonArt  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi Laura - I found the corner of the brush technique really tricky. If I got the brush working well my placement was off and it looked like a stack of cookies. Or the brush was not playing nice and the placement was better. Getting the two to work reliably takes practice. I used to spend hours just painting rows of trees. Nothing but trees. I grew so sick of them that almost by accident I started to just throw them up and blow me down they were the best trees I had painted. My teacher was a marvelous Bob Ross teacher trainer who said 'paint'em like you dont care' and he was right. Just relax and take your time. Think about painting lovely natural trees. Place each stroke with care and then swing your brush a little left or right for the next highlight. Think about painting one branch at a time not a whole tree. And if a tree takes ages to paint it dosn't matter. Then you'll paint the best trees ever. Big art hug and keep on painting - Paul 😃🥰😎
