    • @PaulRansonArt
      @PaulRansonArt 12 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Hi and thank you for your kind comments. The canvas prep was simply a buff coloured acrylic paint. This just tones the canvas and makes for a softer pastel painting. Changing the colour of a canvas is a great way of making the painting look different before you even start. Check out my recent cloud painting on a burnt sienna canvas. Happy Painting - paul 😃

    Hi, Paul! I really enjoyed this week's landscape painting. It was fun to see you paint inside a palette shape! It inspired me! I've decided that when I follow along with you, I will branch out and try something new, too--- I'm going to paint it inside a circle. 😄 When I first started watching oil painting tutorials, I found at least a dozen (I actually think it was more!) talking about the fat over lean principle. The instructors made it seem really complicated, and it took watching so many in order for me to understand it well. In the couple of minutes you took to explain it, you made it clearer than any of the other minutes-long videos I watched. I think that's one of the ways you are such a blessing to us! You're a wonderful teacher! You make the principles of oil painting seem easy and attainable. I really liked it when you went back and added the bits of greens on the horizon line. I liked ALL the little details you added that made the painting extra lovely. And it was super fun when you told about the subscriber who was gaining confidence in her painting by practicing color mixing! I thought, that sounds like me! And then I thought, Wait! I think that WAS me! 😄 Thanks for making my day! 😁 Thank you for all your videos! I'm looking forward to this coming year and learning lots more from you! Oh! And I use Winsor and Newton water-mixable oils! So it was really fun that you were using that brand, too! I hope you and Terri had a lovely Christmas and that you both will have a blessed and happy 2025! As always, best wishes from Utah!

    • @PaulRansonArt
      @PaulRansonArt 12 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Erica - hope you have a wonderful Christmas. Painting inside a shape is fun and can give an extra creative twist. Look at things like the shapes of the state of Utah and paint a classic scene inside the shape. Bob did a wave and beach scene inside a Florida shape. And yes, it WAS you that refered to in the video. Such great feedback really sticks in my mind. I have a lot of ideas for 2025 but taking a break this Sunday to do some much needed stuff around the house. Lets just say a pre Spring clean! The studio gets into a pickle so easily! Have a great New Years and I'll be back soon. best wishes and lots of arty hugs from here in the UK - Paul and the gang🥰😃

    A.I is an absolutely amazing tool for inspiration and even reference. If you spend a bit of money on a good A.I app or membership online you cannot go wrong and well worth the investment. The difference between a good A.I program and a free version is night and day. A good A.I will actually create and not just surf the web for images, The more you force it to create it learns and produces even better images. I love photography but do not have the time to spend weeks out in the wilderness getting wildlife photos of my own, and photographers cry to much when people use photos as reference even when you mention "Inspired by a certain photographer" And the price of a camera and zoom lenses that is needed for clear images of wildlife for my wildlife paintings is in the thousands of dollars. So A.I is a gift in that respect as a tool and a tool only. Great painting.

Its not the race that many folks feel they need to be in just to keep up. So, we look forward to 2025 with new ideas and projects. Best wishes to you and the family - Paul and the gang 😃

    Absolutely outstanding. I’m just really getting serious with water mixable oils and this is such a good tutorial on them with landscape painting. Quick question, what kind of synthetic large brush is that, looks like a great stand-in for Bob’s 1” brush ?

    • @PaulRansonArt
      @PaulRansonArt 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you for your kind comments. Great to hear the water mixable oils are working well for you. The brush is from my local DIY store. Now, the test for a good brush is to carefully part the bristles and look down the centre for a wedge of wood or plastic. If there is one the less bristles and the cheaper the brush. I bought two brands one straight cut and the other an oval like Bob's 1" Oval. They work great and wash up well in soap and water. Hope this helps - 😃

    Hey Paul, I know that you paint on your home-made wallpaper surfaces because they are cheaper than buying stretched canvas and I understand how that could be a real money-saver for beginners who are painting a lot of pictures that are just for practice. But as an experienced artist painting quality pictures, doesn't using the wallpaper mean that you then can't do anything with them? Surely if you painted on a stretched canvas, you could then sell each piece and more than recoup your costs.

      Thank you for your time watching and commenting its really great. I always paint on my DIY canvases as if I paint something really special its a guide to repaint it on a streched canvas. So far I have a few that need to be repainted this way. What I really need to do is to photograph and get them made as prints. Then I could keep the original and share my art. Its an ongoing project for sure. Have a great Christmas - Paul 😃

    Lieber Paul, Ich schaue Dir aus Deutschland zu und folge Deinen Videos schon seit einiger Zeit und bin total froh, dass Du sie jetzt auch in deutscher Sprache machst. So muss ich nicht gleichzeitig dem Bildaufbau und der Übersetzung folgen. Das war sehr schwierig. Videos die mich wirklich interessieren sind selten in deutsch. Deshalb freue ich mich besonders und hoffe, dass Du es auch in Zukunft so machst. Ganz lieben Dank. Ich wünsche Dir ein wunderschönes Weihnachtsfest. Ganz liebe Grüße

    😱WOW! This is extremely helpful for this water mixable oil painter! Thank you so much for venturing into this medium. Yes, it is so very similar to regular oils. Cleaning up my area is so much easier for me. I’m not able to use regular oils because of where I have my painting station. (My finished basement.) But I still get red eyes IF I paint too long (2 😮hours) in one session.. but using a fan is helpful. I also want to admit that I have made a mistake in my clean up. But it’s important to share this so others don’t do it. I literally have been washing my Bob Ross brushes in the Master’s Brush Cleaner and rinsing in.. water. I literally just can’t use any thinners at all. They either smell too strong or make me sick. I thought if I towel dried real well and then fine- combed water mixable linseed oil to condition my brushes, they’d be ok. But I don’t think they are the same anymore. They got fat and misshaped. So, I would like to hear more about the best synthetic alternative to Bob’s brushes. I have yet to see a good replacement for the 1 inch until now.. I looked but can’t see which kind you used, Paul. Could you share your advice on what synthetic brushes you recommend? There’s so many different methods of brush cleaning. With me I can’t find anything (even non thinner methods) without a strong odor. The Masters is fabulous but I don’t know what to do for my natural brushes correctly. So, Your tips here on placement, highlighting with WM oils helps me so much. I really have to say, I have gotten all the colors going in trees but it’s so true- a simpler color palette made more of an impact and wasn’t too busy. It was lovely! I realized that I can be too heavy handed and well- just too much painted on my canvas! 😜 I have had a huge jump in learning here lately and I’m very thankful for your tutorials and advice. Thanks Paul- you have inspired me so much to keep painting and to never get discouraged! 👏🏼🫶🏼🤗🥰😎 Happy Holidays, happy painting and happy new year!

      Hi Stephanie - well I'm just washing up the brushes and though to hop on and say 'hi' . I too found out the hard way that the Bob Ross natural bristle brushes don't like water. They swell up and loose all their spring. I've wetted and reshaped a few but they never feel the same. Maybe just me. So for the water mixable oils I knew a synthetic brush was the only way to go. After looking through the brushes in our local art stores - and checking out the prices eeekk - I visited out local DIY store. This is where I get mine from. They are pale golden in colour with white tips. These tips are where the bristles have been split for a finer finish. Often called flag tipped brushes. They are usually a few $$ more but so much nicer to use. The last tip - split apart the bristles carefully and look down the centre of the brush. If there's a wedge in there then its made to suck up a lot of paint i.e. for door frames etc. Look for all bristle brushes. They work great. And You can usually get oval top and smaller ones like filberts. Fans are a problem. I've been looking for some for ages. I've tested a few for manufacturers too but they always feel a bit thin on bristles. Maybe one day. So until I use a few cheaper fans and wash them in soap and water. They usually hold up OK. I use luke warm water and a teaspoon of dish drops - washing up liquid. They clean up great and zero smell. I only use odourless thinners on my natural bristle brushes. I think I may have mentioned Zest - it as an alternative. Much kinder to the nose and the skin. So pleased to hear of the great progress. Your paintings look fab. Happy Christmas too - Paul and Terri and the fur babies😃🥰
