      @@Estonian4life are you faulting them for making products, while ethically sourced & groundbreaking at the time, but utilizing ingredients that were thought to be safe based upon the scientific information they had then? Unlike Clinique's formula, which hasn't changed at all, nor do I believe Nivea which both had major marketing powers. Oh & mineral oil? As long as it's sourced & filtered correctly, doesn't pose the threat at certain percentages per unit as previously reported.
      Think about it, in 20 years from now, scientists will probably prove our thoughts on more than several big ticket ingredients that we now have scientific knowledge of its capabilities. They're most likely to also provide proof in the future that a number of ingredients we now think are unsafe, to actually be beneficial.

    FUN FACT: the founder of the body shop is actually a women and i highly recommend looking into who she was and what she did (i think there might be a documentary about her) but her name is Anita Roddick and she was pretty badass. She was a human rights activist, feminist and environmental activist. And she would actually travel to the countries where they sourced their ingredients and meet the people. She was i think either the first or one of the first to bring Shea butter over to Europe and North America bc she found out about it when she first visited Ghana and found out about how the women there use it to nourish and protect their skin and hair. Now the people in Ghana who provide Shea for the body shop are either all or mostly women and are paid a fair price so that the women can become financially independent and are able to teach their traditional way of processing their shea to their daughters and future generations.

      I like body shop better because their out-reach and "giving back" programs are A LOT more extensive..their community trade recycled plastic program is so bloody extensive...they are committed to using and reusing only recycled plastics collected and processed by people (women in particular) in impoverished states...child waste pickers now are managers at recycling centres..employing other people...one such former child waste picker turned manager is sending her daughter to Uni to learn Recycling engineering to further help recycling innovation..she wants her daughter to stay in the business...every single one of their core ingredients are associated with specific fairtrade companies and communities...women in ghana for the shea butter, women in Morrocco for the argan oil, people in kenya for tea tree, people in tibet and nepal for charcoal, women in ethiopia for honey etc etc...their ginger and other roots have been associated with the Teddy school since the 80s...they have other non business related outreach as well..like plan international (teaching girls about their rights and to build confidence in reporting crime against them and ensuring justice), building bio-bridges (saving various species habitats), anti-deforestation, education, menstrual pverty campaigns....Its just so good , transparent and extensive!

I’m pretty sure I was only ten and I didn’t have any spots so couldn’t use it. But I remember them telling us back then what they were doing around the world to stop animal cruelty etc. I don’t know why I’m commenting on that, I just thought it was nice they reached out to schools knowing that those 10 year old girls will be the future cosmetics and skincare users and tried instilling ethical standards young. I worked for the Body Shop 35 years ago in Canada. I even dined with Anita Roddick, the company founder-she wore a Mickey Mouse faux-fur coat and I worshipped her. Lol
    Some of the products have lost their “natural” feel as the company expanded. Some of my favorite products were phased out completely, probably because they didn’t appeal to a mass market looking for great-smelling products. But the company has never lost its ethical focus. Anita was doing fair trade and ethically sourcing 35 years ago-before it was “a thing”. And recycling and reusing bottles was novel back then but still available today.
    Appreciate your positive review, and respect your concerns about fragrance and EOs. As always, a great video.

      I used to work at The Body Shop in Canada as well, I left last year because I'm going to school. I completely agree that they've lost some of their level of ethics has dropped since starting out, like we were told that you used to be able to bring an empty body butter jar to the store and get a discount on a new jar and they would recycle the old jar for you but now if they get returns or someone brings brings back an empty jar or a product is expired they literally just toss it in the garbage. I worked in a store that was in a mall that took care of all of our trash for us so it might be different in other stores, but there is still a lot of product that ends up being wasted.

    • @dinasawlani
      @dinasawlani 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The OG body lotion was fragrance free. One could add a fragrance oil of one's choice in store. All bottles were refillable and recyclable, and they also had half a liter bottles. Most of you are too young to have experienced the original Body Shop as run by the Roddick family. Most TBS diehards were aghast and disappointed when they sold out; it went against all that TBS stood for.

    I was so confused because I thought The Body Shop was owned by L’Oreal but apparently I am way behind on the times because they were bought out a few years ago and are now owned by the entirely cruelty free Natura (for anyone as confused as me!) so will definitely be going back to trying some of their products!

    Fun fact: Mark Constantine (founder of Lush) used to formulate products for The Body Shop before Lush was born :)
    I do believe Lush is a level up in terms of what they're doing to try to make the world a better place, for example they have zero advertisements and rely solely on free marketing (people sharing on social media etc etc) because they prefer to put their money into small charities and organizations in the fight against animal testing, protecting the environment and human rights. Would love an in depth video about some Lush best sellers to hear your opinion about their formulations though

      Hello Im Aussie too :) He probably wouldnt like it due to the high concentration of alcohol and the amount of scent and essential oil because its irritating as he says on this video. I just bought the scrub because I didn't know the ordinary did a peel so Ill use this once a fortnight. I've used the cream cleanser, foaming and the moisturiser its better than others. Im going to go the ordinary way and Ive used a serum but it wasnt good for me so Ill try the one he recommends the Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% one. I bought mine in Priceline Very cheap but alsso read the bottle I had to store mine in the fridge. Also the korean beauty is good. Have a look at Let's Face It.. I use Cerave moisturiser cream now in winter. Its cheap and its great.The most important thing is sunscreen and 2step cleansing every day.
