    First rule of TH-cam: the more interesting the content, the worse the audio will be.

      I thought I was the only one. The audio really was terrible which was unfortunate because it detracted from the excellent content.

    Outstanding lecture, I can not stress enough how important it is to understand the times, the values and morality of the different eras.
    When you add the details and get to " know " the person behind the historical figure only then I humbly say you can get a grasp on what those figures represented and stood for.

    Wow. Ive been bingeing on lectures abt mtl, and this was the first time someone focuses on that horrifying violence of the assassination. But he doesnt make the leap that helps explain her behaviour: PTSD. having lost her kids, her family bk home, then the horrors of manning the helm of the was, capped off by the horrific violence of abraham's assassination, how does ANYONE ANYWHERE cope?

      It's no wonder it took a toll on his health. By 1864 he had lost 20 pounds and looked much older

    Clicked on here and couldn't stop listening. Fascinating stories that are told so well that you don't even realize that you're learning at the same time. Thank you so much for sharing.

    Initially, Mary's family thought she had married down when she married Lincoln. Because of her lack of financial resources, Mary could not participate in Springfield high society. When she became First Lady, she tried to prove how wrong they were by offering federal patronage to members of her family. David probably overcompensated for his relationship to Mary by sadistically treating the prisoners of war. Emily was definitely much prettier than Mary. Lincoln risked public censure by allowing Emily, the widow of a Confederate general, to stay in the White House. Lincoln's desire for reconciliation with the South may have been rooted in his experience with the Todds.

    The audio is very low. You can boost the audio in most video programs. You might try this, then re-post this video , however; the slagging of former presidents doesn't give this horses' ass of a speaker much stature.

    I enjoy lectures like this, but why can' t people (in the audience) cover their mouth when they cough. Not just is it annoying, rude, and inconsiderate, but after months and months (seems like years) of the COVID pandemic, when I hear people coughing (even though this is several years ago, long before COVID) the first thought that comes to mind is "superspreader event". Cover your coughs or buy some cough drops, folks!

    Not to be contrary, however when I watched a video about Willie Lincoln not dying at 11 years old, was sold to Libyan Druze royalty, lived until September 16, 1931, when he was hung, as the story went.
    I really have no interest in any of this; some invisible source thinks differently, drawing my attention to, what eventually while thinking about what I've received, history repeating itself came to mind.
    I can pretty much prove that Gladys Presley was a reincarnate of Mary Todd. Many exact parallels of them to my ancestors.

    • @lesliecogan641

      I wanted to say there's a whole lot we shouldn't believe because it's textbook. Written in stone shouldn't even be relied on.

    • @lesliecogan641
      @lesliecogan641 ปีที่แล้ว

      No option to edit. Hadn't watched before commenting initially.
      So Mary Todd was all involved in a scandal the same month Willie died - February 1862. Sounds odd being that too, it was at the height of the Civil War. And btw, why would they lie and say Willie died, if he didn't. And as that story goes where Mary Todd called on these Davenport Brothers to perform a seance to try and reach Willie in his grave... so that didn't happen it appears? It's twisted because I have exact parallels to the story he died at 11, and parallels that he didnt and lived til 1931.
