    Nothing can compete with a Winberry pie - beats blueberries by a mile. Luckily I live on the side of a valley and our moorland is full of them. One of my fondest childhood memories is picking them with my mother 👌

      @@UKWILDCRAFTS my oldest grandson had never had one and thought I was exaggerating until he tried a piece. He raved about it as the best fruit pie he had ever tasted! He often asks me to make one if he is coming down to Lancashire to visit with his family from south Cumbria (if they are in season).

    I love bilberries. We used to pick them on the moors around Bacup when we stayed with my Granny in the summer holidays. Bilberry pie!

    • @danyoutube7491
      @danyoutube7491 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I've never had bilberries (actually I might have had them in the occasional restaurant fruit pudding or a jar of jam), and hadn't imagined what they would look like or where they might grow. It certainly wouldn't occur to me that they would grow on the moors, I don't associate moors with juicy fruit :) They do indeed look very similar to blueberries, one of my favourite fruits, so to hear that they are possibly even tastier whets my appetite. Perhaps I need a miniature moorland in my garden, with mounds of acidic soil for bilberries and rowan trees... :)

    Rowanberries make absolutely fantastic wine. Very strong flavoured but very similar in taste to sherry. Really easy to make too. Water, sugar, rowanberries, stick in a fermenting jar and add some yeast.

    With regard to your belt mounted collector, I use a "neck trug". A 5 litre container cut down lower at the front with a neck strap. It is accessible to both hands and highly stable. Easily used up a ladder and will take about 4lb of fruit.
