I don't have much knowledge about the customs of this particular community.. But this came to me as a shock when i saw the bride's father tying the thaali at 4:16.. Can somebody plzz eexplain.
Namboodiri weddings, called Veli, are Vedic rites. According to the vedic rites, it is the father of the bride who ties the thali on the bride. The thali thread is called mangalyasutra. The father ties the mangalyasutra and does the 'kanyadaan'. As per the rituals, the groom is not supposed to touch the bride before the 'panigrihanam', a ritual involving the groom holding the bride's hand, which comes later in the sequence. Therefore, in Namboodiri weddings, tying the thali, does not represent marriage.
Yes in Namboothiri marriage, father ties the thaali.........and as per the marriage customs, the ceremony of paanigrahanam marks the act of marriage and not താലികെട്ട്. Paanigrahanam is the ceremony where the groom holds (ഗ്രഹണം) the hand ( paani) of the bride.
U are a rascal which Ur language expresses,, m from mathura and m fond of the ways hinduism is celebrated in different states in our country..... It's beauty of my religion that although people speak different languages but motion behind every festival and celebration is one......
People like you are catalysts for total destruction of Great Indian cultural heritage. And here nobody is trying to glorify the uppercaste. Its the tradition to which they are expected to adhere. Similarly in Hinduism all the castes have different different vibrant traditions . If this is of the uppercaste, all other castes also do have their own ways of practises.
@@gokulkrishnan2925 great culture of social segregation and exploitation of all kinds. Hinduism is hoax by brahmins to pass on their hegemony to their offsprings.

@@sushamakumar1128Though I am a namboodiri,I believe the kanyaadaan should be updated according to time.In now days, thali is knot by bridegroom.

I didn't know in Kerala weddings they do ululation. I thought it was only a tradition in West Bengal.
Keralites do that too :)
As far as I know, Tamils, Mallus, Bengalees & Odia women ululate in auspicious occasions
Interesting is a similarity is also seen in Iranians too. This could some proto-indo-iranic roots.

Either there is something wrong with my eyes or it seems as if the bride's father tied the mangalsutra.
Yes! Namboothiri custom
