The Mako/Kamasu is a bit of a classic affordable Japanese diver. This Anniversary Edition is fifty quid more than the regular version. I think it is probably worth it. Do you? Cheers, Jody
Nice shirt mate! All of us Brazilians miss Senna a lot.
The watch TH-camrs need to quit it, I’m gonna be homeless with a tremendous watch collection!
At least you’ll always be able to tell time! 😂
Don't buy disposable seikos and you'll have nicer things and less of them !
No lie.
You only need 7 watches.
1. G shock 2. Dress watch 3. Field watch 4. Diver 5. Gmt 6. Luxury 7. Chrono.
@@shino8854Or… you can have 7 of each!! 😂
Orient was the first watch I was given as a 8 year old back in 1968 for my birthday day, and I still have it, and every now and then I will get it out, give it a shake, and off it goes.
Great watches.
Damm your old!
A bitter sweet anniversary day. Well done on to Orient, nice touch Jody on the tribute to Senna. Will never be forgotten.
Orient does a continually great job with the trio Ray-Mako-Kamasu, particularly the third and second generations of the later two respectively (Ray still needs a third generation, i think). Together they're like a "contemporary classic" that doesn't feel like three dead horses being beaten. Even the limited editions don't look like cashgrabs as other brands often do, just good-looking variations of the same themes. Truly a great modest brand that knowns its history and stays true to itself.
And thanks for remembering Senna! Great man, sad loss.
need to change the crown size tho
You forgot to mention the Bambino
Totally agree!
I really like the Mako. I’m a sucker for numerals at the cardinal points of a watch dial but I fall into the “wish it had 20mm lugs” camp unfortunately. Maybe one day I’ll get over myself because it’s a cracking watch 😂
Lovely touch with the t shirt today Jody. Senna sempre 🇧🇷🏎️
The Orient Mako USA II had a sapphire crystal, the same F6922 movement, a more proportional handset with a red tip second hand, a 120 click bezel and a classic all black colorway for $100+ USD less.
I am envious of the options Orient has in the USA. You have such great choice there. Here in Australia the brand does not even exist and we have to import them via online sellers.
I sold my white mako USA 😭
Don’t forget solid end links
Would this be RA-AA0819N? Orient models are so confusing to decipher.
@@mtbbiker6401 Orient Mako USA II: Black dial SAA0200AB9, Blue dial SAA0200BD9 and White Dial SAA0200CW9. Happy Hunting!
I still got my og mako which I bought like 15 years ago, and it still works great! I recently ordered their new Mako Sport 40 and I'm so excited to get it.
Own this beauty on JDM limited to 500 pieces. Agree with you on the bracelet.
Not sold on this tbh, but thank you for mentioning Cestrian. I had a look at their site and the Field Series is awesome. Exactly what I am after next.
Had no idea Jody was a F1 fan! Respect for the Senna Shirt🇧🇷❤
My first nice watch was the Mako USA 2. Sapphire and solid end links. I’ll never let that thing go.
Great video!
I don’t think you can beat an Orient Mako. The Mako 2 was great and still my primary watch. The Mako 3 added the lumed second hand which was nice. This anniversary edition is interesting. My only complaint is the lume could be better but it gets the job done and will last all night. It is also the only affordable dive watch with the numerals that I know of, which to me makes it perfect. Great watch!
Jody! nice looking watch.. at 5:32 you wanted to say 1498 out of 3000 (came out as 300).. Thanks for a great video again and good luck with Ascent!
I can't believe it's been 30 years! 😢
Thank you for remembering.
Jody grwat video again! Has the Orient dive watch specifically with the Mako and Mako II ever gone with a 20mm? I've always thought they made them only in 22mm. Cheers mate 🍻👊🏽
I recently bought a mako 40 lilac and, outside of what I assume was a piece of waste plastic and certainly not something meant to be an actual watch strap, it's fantastic. I'm going to check this one out. Hey, in house movement, by the watch snobs own rules this makes Orient next level. Oh, and I have 2 Cestrian field, hands down best value prop going, aliexpress included.
I've owned this watch for well over 5 years and it's become my everyday wear. I've made a few upgrades: Double domed sapphire crystal, Uncle Seiko Beads of Rice band, and an upgraded handset. This things looks and feels so substantial, clean simple design that does NOT feel heavy- just kinda premium. It really has a classy understated look.
Oh- it also happens to be cheap!
I love the watch! Finally a day/date comp. EDIT: Haha you now mention us fellow day/date fanatics!
On a similar note: You have your best of Pagani, San Martin and others on your description. I think it's time to add the best of Addiesdive!
Nice watch, and as always a great review by Jody. I wonder how the learning experience of designing and producing the Erebus watches has informed the current reviews? 😎
I like the looks of this watch. Id consider picking one up if I didn't have my mako 2 I upgraded to sapphire and a strap code bracelet already.
I have a Mako II and love it although it hasn't gotten much wrist time since I got my gw-m5610u. I hope I'm around when they're celebrating their 30th anniversary all the same. Their 40th and 50th come to think of it...and 60th too.
Looks sharp! I would prefer the bezel not be coated. Has anyone pre-ordered the solar Sea Quartz 30? I like the new background in your videos Jody.
Like the T-Shirt. 22 mil my preference bracelet or band I think it makes the larger watches that I like look less too big on my smaller wrist. My tiny gold Hamilton dress watches are 18 mil that looks right on them so there you have it...
the Rolex GMT II I bought in 1995 had hollow end links and pressed metal clasp. I can live with them on a entry-level diver, it drove me to distraction on the Rollie, which I eventually sold. I own a Mako II and owned the original way back when. Guess I'd better go get me the anniversary edition now!
I have a regular Mako II and I love the 22mm, more or less untapered, bracelet. It makes it look and feel substantial.
Not only beautiful, but quite a good mechanism. I would have liked it even more without complications, but still one of my favorites.
I have the burnt orange fumé JDM only edition of this watch. Picked it up from Dave over at Just The Watch. Great little rotation piece in my collection. Took it off the rather ordinary bracelet and have it on a black and orange striped two piece nylon.
RN-AA0817Y? My most worn watch. 😄
Entertaining review. I do like the watch & don’t have an Orient yet. Definitely thinking about it.
I’m a fan of 22mm lugs, but not a fan of hollow end links & pressed clasp for the money.
It shows how much effort the Chinese brands go to with fit & finish to make a sale on aliexpress to match the big name Japanese brands.
Orient Mako was one of my first autos, the older one with the twin crowns. Wish I'd hung onto it now. My current Orients are the baby Triton and the hugely underrated M-force. The latter have an RRP of around £600 but can be had for much less. Features include an uprated 6722 movement and higher shock resistance, sapphire, solid end links and nicer bracelet plus ISO certification. Quality is a step up from the entry level and on par with Orient Star watches.
Hello from Copenhagen Congrats 😉
I really like the Mako 2 but not enough to replace my Kamasu. I’m more interested on when Cestrian will release their GMT. I have their Field Watch, and I think it’s the best Field Watch for the money out there. Thanks as always!
I have a Tag Heuer with hollow end links. And I will have to go and check, but I have a feeling my Breitling may as well. And neither are hugely 'entry level' although they are both 25 years or so old.
Hi , I just got a vostok amphibia for my bday just wondering if you have reviewed one
Very appropriate t shirt for today, sir 🫡
I've had my Mako since 2011. The bezel has faded massively, but it's still going strong. It sort of looks vintage now, and it was the cool pusher that the newer Makos dont have.
These are great watches. Tough for an automatics.
I like it …I’ve got a red Kamasu on a Nato and it’s a superb beater. Ditch the bracelet, fit a NATO or rubber strap and it’s great
Hey Jody, what a fantastic review, your video brings the Orient Mako 20th Anniversary to life! We love hearing all the feedback from your community too. All the best, Team WatchNation.
I wouldn’t mind seeing the world map background come back, Jody! Maybe a dark mode version…
Nice shirt and homage to the great Senna 🙏
Like the shirt! ❤
Jody, I could be wrong but I believe you said it was an upgraded movement but my original Mako 2 has the 6922 movement as well.
You're not wrong. Maybe he was thinking about the Mako 1
The original Mako/Ray had the non hacking, non handwinding movement with the day pusher. It was upgraded for the mako 2/ray 2 indeed.
Yep, correct comment. Same movement as the Mako 2 referenced in Jody's previous review.
I’ve had my Mako 2 for four years. It is a solid work horse and, with the tapering Strapcode bracelet, looks and feels a lot more premium than the price point would suggest and the movement is still more accurate than my recent Seiko prospex spb 317 purchase!
My only big gripe is the bezel movement. It is so stiff as to be practically unusable most of the time.
A 1st gen Mako was the first watch I purchased for myself. And yes, I replaced the bracelet years ago.
Hello from Connecticut, USA!!!!
Recently bought a Kamasu (red dial) and the bracelet was pretty crap but, I knew that when I bought it. Changed it out for a rubber strap (as I have on all my dive watches) and it looks and feels so much better.
Watching from Thailand!
I'll finally have it soon, pre-ordered it and parcel arrived empty in a freaking parcel locker. One thing sure, I'll remember this purchase 😅
Hello from Maine, USA!!!!
Very nice!! 💙
I miss the chapter ring from the old models. It made the dial smaller, which made the watch look smaller on the wrist.
Yeah, that bracelet. I've been wearing my "Mako II" on leather for the last year or more. Makes for a better experience all around....and I'm not exactly a diver, so it works.. ;)
The Mako is as nice looking as the Longines Conquest, very nice job Orient.
Jody, are you gonna review the Sumo Solar GMT?

Watchdives Titanium Pelegos GMT just dropped too!
My older Mako USA, which was not sold in other countries, came with solid bracelet end links and a sapphire crystal. I replaced and upgraded the cheap stamped clasp and the bezel. The old movement, they no longer use, doesn't hand wind or hack and has a separate 2 o'clock crown to change the day of the week. I think bracelet, day/date display, case, except for drilled lugs, and hands are almost the same. I prefer my Mako USA
Still have my Mako XL as my DD. Paid $130 USD for it. It’s held up really well.
Hello from Sydney
I’m strongly considering a Mako 3. That 12-6-9 really stands out. The dark grey and gilt model is the one buzzing in my head lately. One small difference between this and the others: Mako typically have the separate color through the 15 minute marker on the bezel insert. This goes to 20 instead, which isn’t uncommon in watches, but it is a little different.
The deeper blue dial is nice, and might be very appealing since Orient doesn’t have a traditional navy blue in the Kamasu-case Mako yet. The one they do make is a vibrant, summery one. To call it pastel blue probably oversells the difference, but maybe “dark aqua” would be a good description, with a tinge of green. The older Mako 2 has both a classic blue and a blue Pepsi, but not with the upgraded case.
But the limited edition bug didn’t bite. I think I’d still rather have the grey or the champagne dial Mako 3.
Really like that they put a 22mm band on it, but the hollow end links and pressed clasp are disappointing, especially at the "entry level" price point. Being a limited edition, diver's certified would be nice too. Considering what the SKX with upgrades would cost you I don't think it's unreasonable to ask for. And just out of curiosity, is the Fri 13 day/date some kind of foreshadowing on your part? 🤪
Wait… it’s 10:07 on Friday the 13?! NO WAY!! 😅
Nice looking version. I think I'd throw a blue Artem strap on it.
that would look gorgeous!
I like it. I've been meaning to get another Orient and I think the dial sold me. I really like the wave dials on the Omegas, but, the only modern Seamaster I like doesn't have it. This should do nicely. Bracelet isn't really an issue for me as I'm definitely gonna put it on a black or blue rubber strap.
Let's be honest, if you're saying this will do vs the Seamaster, then you were never really going to spend Seamaster money to begin with. 😂
@theaussiewhinger you misunderstood. I'm saying the seamaster I want doesn't have a wave dial(which I also want). I mean this will do specifically for the dial, not as an alternative to the seamaster. Still gonna get the seamaster eventually, but I got a santos, a speedy and a move at the end of the year to get out of the way first. This is something I can pick up in the meantime to satisfy my desire for that dial style.
I still love my Kamasu und my 2 Makos. Still the best you can get under €200. I upgraded my black one with a Strapcode bracelet that is way better than the Original one from Orient
Currently on Amazon AU, both Mako's & Kamasu's are around the $250 - $350 in all different colours. This one is $672 then adding shipping. And for that price your still getting hollow end links & a pressed clasp that cost prob $1.50 to make.
For a Limited Edition they could've gone all out with a much better quality bracelet for a very slight extra in costings. Maybe even like Seiko do with some of their limited edition by offering a rubber strap as well. Like many, I got one of the Seiko King Turtle LE's That came with the SS bracelet & rubber strap, in a quality snap shut case & is 1 out of 1000. Paid just under $500au
Jodie, can't you get Watch nation to sell your Erebus watch?
I’ve been a viewer since I got into watches in 2018, it’s been fun to watch your channel grow! One of the best watch TH-camrs
I don't dislike it at all. I do like that bezel insert. Unsure of the dial. Pity it still has the hollow end links. That would have been a whopping $2 more. An original (second pusher for the day) Mako was my beater forever back in the day. Not sure what year I bought it. Maybe 2008. I know I had it for a while before I left that job which was 2011. I did eventually replace the crystal with a sapphire and almost always wore it on a black/gray NATO. Eventually bought either a Strapcode or a Long Island bracelet. Probably my most work watch of all time. I did get a Mako II, a Ray II, a USA Mako and two Kamasus. I had a few of the SKSx and generally preferred the Makos. Still have all the orients and only still have my modded SKX.
A bit of detail ... the 'anniversary edition' on the dial is under the 20 on the bezel. Celebrating its 20th. 🙂
we love that touch!
You were pushing your luck having Friday 13th on the watch there Jody!
This one is actually quite nice overall, for the price.
It’s a great looking watch. Would look great on a blue fkm rubber strap.
For sure!
Please add/show timegrapher readings to the watches you review.
Friday 13th date ?
Quite pretty man, ill get a Kanno
Yay! For day/date visible frame window. I wish you’d mention the accuracy of that movement. Should have numbered or dated the anniversary.
He did mention it. -15 to +25sec/day…. When running through the specs…
@@thetattedpharmacist3215 Yes. I know. But put it on the watch dial. By the words, “Anniversary Edition.”
Senna
Friday 13th. Nice hehe.
I have the standard black Mako II and love it. In comparison, this anniversary color-way has too much going on graphically. Black, blue, gold, silver, wavy dial.
Hey, the Mako, the only watch to ever fall off of my wrist while secured with the clasp. The hollowed end link on one side gave way because my hand moved to fast. Then it uses this weird bent spring bar so ordinary spring bars dont work. I hate this watch.
How is it Seiko's cheaper subsidiary has better quality control than the parent?
A quick search revealed a price of 40000 japanese yen (japanese store), approx $400au or £200. I'm a pom in oz, my wife is japanese hence the currency conversion.
When the 38 mm Orient Kamasu? We are waiting!!!
some or most orients have sapphire. almost no seikos have sapphire
Ayrton Senna approves this video.
🇧🇷Senna #1🇧🇷
Fantastic watch! Nice "upgrades." Personally like the day/date. Too bad about the stamped clasp, embossed (vs. applied) markers and poor lume :( Do like the 22mm bracelet for actual scuba. But, this watch screams for a rubber or silicone strap. Currently $529 + $4.93S&H on Amazon (Mako 3 as low as $249). OUCH! Not for this boy in E. Tennessee, USA. Thanks!
Add 100 for strapcode bracelet and or another 80 for the Erika's original strap
Just brought number 923 🙏
Yay! I've long been an advocate for 22mm bracelets and straps on cases 41mm or larger. I think it looks much more proportional and I like this one. I just don't understand why they cheaped out on the bracelet. An embossed crown would have been nice. So, I guess I really want to like it, yet, no.
Senna Forever 🏁🇧🇷
The Orient logo looks like the Marlboro logo, or other similar cigarette brands. I don't smoke anymore, but can't help but see that.
it's good
I own two orients a mako and kamasu. Cracking watches let down by the braclet. Had to upgrade both. Which beggers the question, why or why for a limited edition, didn't they improve the braclet. I like this version and but brands like orient and seiko need to step this area up.
Because these are budget watches. If you include all the nice features, they stop being budget 🤷♂️
The gold hands and 22mm bracelet are bothering me. Outside of that it's a great looking watch 😁
Nice looking watch !!! I have a Mako II and I wonder if they have increased the size of the crown ? Mine is kind of small and hard to use. Otherwise I like my watch.
Yes apparently it has had a slight size increase as another reviewer I watch has noted.
Unless someone is a Mako or should I say Orient fan I dont see people pulling the trigger especially with All the competition in this range
A moment of silence to mark 30 years since Senna's passing. Obrigado!
Watch nation are a v good store here in U.K.
We appreciate that John!
Love the blue and black color way but there are way too many divers that do this already
I'm in the 22mm camp, and this is a very pretty watch. That said, too much money for this one. I'd rather have either Erebus, a bunch of different San Martins, etc.
