    The Mego 3 3/4" Dukes Of Hazzard figure line also has inconsistent articulation. The Bo & Luke figures are very similar to GI Joe figures while the rest of the line features only five poa.

    I remember one commercial for these toys to this day, including lyrics: "They're the A-TEAM! (yeah they're soldiers of fortune), They're the A-TEAM! (helpin' people in need) / You can pretend that you're Hannibal, Murdoch or Face! Or even B.A. Baracus (you know each one is an ace)!'
    I watched the show faithfully, and after 40 years I have one lingering question: did anybody EVER pay them?

    The cast made this show. No one had a more commanding presence than George Peppard as Hannibal Smith.

      George Peppard was an alcoholic by this stage in his career and because he has been a movie star he resented Mr T being the most popular with the fans leading to a lot of tension on set. There was a docu about it, Mr T was fairly magnanimous about it as he knew Peppards alcoholism was a major factor in the problem. It was a bit sad to hear those details.

    As an FYI, the MEGO Dukes of Hazzard and CHiPs lines both had fully-articulated main characters with minor characters/adversaries having only the five POA. I agree that it is a bizarre, but cost-saving, choice.

    I had the van but had T fixed to the seat in 1983 or 4. The sliding door opens but not sure if that was a Galoob release ?
    Loved the show as a kid but the funny thing is alot of the outdoor scenes in the country remind me of the Incredible Hulk series with Bixby traveling around in small country towns or hitchhiking on the roads.

    Now this is a great video about the Galoob A-Team. Best part: “they’re mostly pretty awful” regarding the figures. Haha! I love my Interceptor Jet Bomber, but agree it’s far too fragile.

    • @JJ-uy2sg
      @JJ-uy2sg 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I like it, but Murdock never flew a jet. The van and vet are the best. Half track close second. However, nod to the jet as being a good JOE sky striker on a budget.

    There are more A-Team toys than this. There was a really cheap Van and Corvette sold through the department store Pamida here in the US. They weren't just knock-offs, as they had full-on A-Team stickers and logos. They were MUCH cheaper than even these and you could get them for just a few bucks. No windows in the van (just cutouts), you couldn't get to the rear seats, and the only way to get a driver and passenger in was through the tiny sunroof. The Vette was totally sealed, but did have a windshield. They were scaled to be just a bit bigger than my 1989 Batmobile.

    This was great, Tony. You’re the first person I “know” who had/has these toys. I saw them everywhere as a kid, including the grocery store, believe it or not. I hated the generic bodies and terrible face sculpts and saw them for the GI Joe ripoffs they were, and like a lot of us of that generation, I was all-in on Joe since 1982.
    However… I DID have one Gen. Patch figure I got in 1983, purely because I wanted a General Flagg for my Joes. The package said the weapons smelled like battle(?) but they smelled like plastic to me. Believe me, I smelled them a lot, wondering what I was missing.
    Until now I had no idea Gen. Patch was re-purposed for the A-Team, thanks to your video. Makes total sense!! Thanks for that.
    Again, well done. This was a nice trip down Amnesia Lane for this old kid.

    Great review! I got the Combat Headquarters from my grandparents one birthday and remember being rather underwhelmed. I never did get any of the vehicles, the Corvette sure does look cool though, I have the ERTL version now, but I think both Galoob and ERTL had scaling problems with this car. The ERTL version is slightly too big and the Galoob version slightly too small.
    Oh and you forgot to mention the ERTL A-Team van....... 🤣🤣🤣🤣

    When the wings broke off of the jet, I just pretended it was a rocket. The heads of the figures were hollow and made of soft rubber, different from the bodies. My brother and I stole the tiny rubber bands from my sister’s braces supplies. We’d put them on the figure’s wrists to hold their weapons in place. I also had a die cast van some other company made. Same scale, sliding side door, but it had a likeness of B.A. molded into the driver’s seat. I liked that the bad guys didn’t look like soldiers but generic goons - it was one of the only things from the toy line that was true to the show

  • @keithcooper3507

    Brilliant video, thank you! I had the figures as a kid (and recently managed to get them again in good condition from eBay). I also had die-cast versions of the van and Face's Corvette, and the van had a sliding door on the side.I also had a die-cast General Lee that seemed to come from the same range. Were they the Ertl versions? And do the Ertl versions of the van and Corvette fit the figures just as well as the Galoob vehicles? I can't remember, but I'm interested in picking them up again, and I only ask because I've also seen versions of the van that have BA from the torso up in the driver seat, and I'm not sure who made that or if that was the van I had. I don't think it was, but it was 40 years ago... Thanks again.

    I came looking for this video after my children found an M60 in my old Lego box. I had the A-Team boat, it went well in the bath, it got re-purposed over many years and was only a hull when it went down the stream at my parents in the 90s. The figures broke at some stage and are inside a metal pipe in the garden at my parent’s house 😢 happy days watching the A-Team on a Saturday and jumping out of a tree with my toy M16! Thanks for the video

    All of the 80s A-team vans were produced in black (lazy, or cheap, you decide), which led to the Mandela effect of people thinking that the real in series van was black too. There was a pub quiz row about this!

    Excellent video, sir! The only 80's property that has not been milked to death over the past few years. I guess good guys beating the bad guys and saving the day is not reboot material in this cultural environment.

    Great review! Though I watched the show, I never really got into it like my friends did. I did incorporate many of the ideas, like the good guys scratch building an armored vehicle, into my playtime with other my toys. It was a fun show with a simple concept that became iconic of the 80's.

  • @TroyPacelli
    @TroyPacelli 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    Because of the reuse nature of the bodies, I aways thought of them as a version that was a sort of prequel to the series; like when they were serving in combat together. I kind of wish that the line had continued, eventually I'd like to think they would have gotten around to tooling for more screen accurate outfits and adding a "Triple A" figure.

    Amazing retrospect. ❤️
    We had some of these growing up. Specifically I think it was a 4 pack of the cast. They were so cheap and fragile, with the goofy rubber heads and crossed eyes lol. I think we were too focused on Joes to get any of the vehicles. They were more just back ground characters and I remember at least one of them having firecracker burn marks…😇 my bro, me and the neighborhood kids played really hard with our toys.
    I recall having more fun with the bigger 5POA figures. We also had some of the bad guys at that scale, which was similar to the Karate Kid scale toys our dad surprised us with including the Dojo and several figures one summer visiting him. Good times! 👍

I recently acquired the Arco M24 Assault rifle play set (video on my channel) and it put me back into an A-team obsession. But once I started looking into the cost of these vintage figures and vehicles I slowed right down as I knew the quality of these vintage toys just wasn't there. I will always keep my eyes open for A-team figures and vehicles especially the GMC van but it's more of the nostalgia of my childhood than collecting a great piece. The tv van started grey top half and black main body and the toys became all black either due to cost cutting and/or didn't realise it was a dark grey all along. In the end the tv series changed the van to all black so the toys became screen accurate 👍

    I had these back then and I loved them. They always hung around with Slaughters Maurauders in the toy box. Like a special GI Joe subunit. I also vaguely remember having Fall Guy and Michael Knight figures in roughly the same scale, but I think they had the 5 point articulation.

    I remember playing with that yellow inflatable raft as well as all the other stuff from the command four pack but never knew where they came from

    I think the grey paint on the top of the van is really subtle, and with the reflections, it's not as obvious in the show.
