Myles Rice can shoot, last year was his first full season after coming off cancer treatment, I believe fatigue played a major factor in the shooting dropoff near the end of the season. Not saying he’ll be at 40% from 3 but mid 30% is very reasonable to expect.

Exactly. Rice hit a wall, and it was very predictable. Lots of freshmen hit a wall late in a season even without not playing the previous season. Another factor that isn't talked about: Galloway had groin surgery at the end of his junior year. I feel sure his inaccuracy (free throws are the real teller) resulted from picking up a bad habit by trying to come back too soon. His junior year he hit more than 40% from 3, and I expect him to regain that form.

IU doesn't have to be an elite shooting team, they just have to not be a liability shooting the ball, but I'm still not convinced it'll be that way with this roster

“Shooters don’t go 2-28” Klay Thompson famously went 5/36 to start the year before making the NBA record of 14 3s. It’s literally called a shooters slump for a reason.
Does Myles Rice shoot like Klay? No
But it goes for everyone when you just look at the %.

This is a flawed argument. You don't need Mike Woodson to say that we have shooters and shooting potential to believe it. As you acknowledged, the fact that Rice ended the season shooting poorly can be easily explained - fatigue, heavy load, first healthy year following chemo... Also, look up freshman to sophomore year jumps in shooting. This is why statistically you can easily argue that Mgbako, Rice, Carlyle, and Cupps will have a better 3pt %. Now if you want to consider the fact that we will have much better guard play and dominant bigs, thus better looks, it only further reinforces that. Also, if you knew more about Cupps you would know that he was thrown into the fire last year resulting in poor numbers. That said, he certainly has the ability to be an open knockdown shooter, ask IU insiders on how he has been shooting this offseason if you care to be informed. I get having a prove it mentality, especially with Woodson, but do your research and consider context. Like Galloway having to play out of position most of last year... Maybe look at the previous year when he was playing the wing. This is a lazy take.

I think any logical fan would see this team has the roster construction to get better looks. The teams before this not only started 2 bigs and had depth at the position, but it was their best scoring option behind TJD, Ware and Reneau.
Galloway shot 46% in a role he will have similar this year. Rice Carlyle and Mgbako are projected for sophomore jumps. They will start 2 bigs but Ballo & Reneau will be the only bigs playing which will have Goode and Mgbako playing more stretch 4.
Anyone who knows ball could figure out why lineups make for better or worst shooting and a team shouldn’t just start jacking up 3s bc of the idea
