    “...the mentality first and then the moves...” This struck a chord with me.

    Coach, it was such an honor to learn from you. As a teacher, I really appreciate your teaching style. Ongoing assessment of student needs and really hammering home what I needed to hear each and every week. Chess is a lifelong journey, and I have a long way to go, but I learned so much from you, and I’ll be forever grateful.

    Nice! The problem ist that a Caro Kann player does not play the caro kann to then make moves like g5.

      I do, I feel the Caro Kann is underrated as an aggressive defense. There are definitely many positions where you can allow your opponent to double your f pawn and after gxf6 you have a raging attacking along the g-file

    Your words vaguely seem to suggest there is a defense for White after 13. gxh3 h6. But there is no viable defense, 14. Kg2 avoids immediate checkmate with the maneuver Rg1;Kf1 but he is much much worse. Also there is NO advantage for White after the suggestion 12. Bh4 Bxh3 13. Rg8 Nd2 no matter what miraculous moves White comes up later. I would not be thinking about the scenario where White gives the pawn right away, but what do I after 12. Bxf6 Nxf6 13. Kh1 O-O-O 13. b5, seems like I got a messy game when I had a good position. (Bxf6 and b5 are not the computer moves).

    MSR is awesome! Ty Andras and all the best wishes to Dan!!! 😁
    As an aside, Andras, how would you develop an opening repertoire? I've been playing pretty much 1 or 2 openings per side lately, and I'm wondering when I should branch out (for context, I play the Vienna system as white, though I can also play a closed Sicillian, a scandi, French, etc...and as black I play Sicillian against e4 (Dragon if possible), the QGA against d4, sometimes the King's Indian).

      @@unknownalsounknown4238 Ty! Love that vid. But the question is more of when should I start to expand my repertoire, vs which openings to choose (though still a useful Q which the vid you reccomended answers)

    • @unknownalsounknown4238
      @unknownalsounknown4238 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Arthas30000 I think you should "expand" your repertoire based on how strong you are , at the beggining 3 openings are MORE THAN enough (1 against e4 1 against d4 and 1 for white)
      as you go stronger you want to get different types of openings , like 1 tactical/1 positional
      perhaps expand from previous slightly dubious openings like danish into "proper" openings as you go higher
      like how I gave up e5 to learn the accelerated dragon(not because its dubious , but because I felt I needed exposure to more tactical positions)

    • @Arthas30000
      @Arthas30000 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@unknownalsounknown4238 Awesome, thank you very much! I was looking into the accel dragon (and slightly dubious hyper-accel dragon) but have virtually never played either xD

    • @unknownalsounknown4238
      @unknownalsounknown4238 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Arthas30000 why not? the accel dragon can only really be countered by the maroczy bind , and I doubt your opponents are strong enough to capitalize on a +0.7 position , basically a very hard positional squeeze will be required to slowly slowly beat black.

    Can't the pawn h4 defend the bishop?

      Stockfish actually says h4 is a candidate best move there, but it just keeps things equal.
