    Kliz makes a clear primer. It works to keep the dark colors dark. I used your formula with a jet black paint using clear primer. It solved the problem.

    You always do great work! You are an excellent teacher! You make the process very approachable. I really appreciate that you use tools that a newbie can use. Many of the experienced furniture artists use the very expensive tools that not everyone can buy. You are my favorite furniture artist! THANK YOU for your videos!!!

    Shannon! This is so pretty. You are so fun and such a great teacher. You make all of us feel like we can do it too. I'm impressed with your skills with the jigsaw. I'm baby stepping my way into power tools although I recently used the all purpose tool on a desk and it was fun! I also greatly appreciate that you do close-ups on the texture. That's a huge thing for me. When I was starting I always felt like any texture was bad and I wasn't doing it right and no one else was showing close-ups at that time. Thank you again for all you do!

    On those kind of finishes, your best bet is to scrape it with a carbide scraper, then sand or strip.

    Definitely a stunning transformation! You brought a dated piece into this century. I was drinking coffee when you mentioned 'cow udders' - I sprayed coffee across the kitchen. It took a while to clean my tablet and the island, I kept laughing at myself. I thoroughly enjoy the unexpected. Every time you Shannon-ize a piece the end-result is awesome! Plus you graciously share so much information and amazing tips that I make notes in my Shannonization File. I also pass along your info and channel info. Thank you for sharing your expertise.

    We would rub lamp black powder on stained glass lead to turn it black. Just curious if adding lamp black to a black or navy chalk paint wood help keep the color dark. Or paint then add lamp black to your clear coat.
    Using router track with a long bit may help making a mess……sorry I meant straight edge in one pass.
    I enjoy your videos enough to recommend them others.

    I'm ambivalent about this makeover. It was a solid mahogany dresser from the 1950s or 60s, possibly a Hungerford of Nashville piece. I would have removed the old finish & put a light stain & sealer on that gorgeous wood, updated the handles, & called it a day!

  • @peta23

    Why did you say water based primer is necessary? Is it because you're mixing everything together?

    • @galady8632
      @galady8632 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you combine oil-based and water-based products the end result isn't usable. It's similar to mixing water and oil in a bottle - the properties do not blend. Plus with paint it becomes a nasty mess. I believe it's a chemical issue. I saw a 'professional painter' mix a batch of products and started spraying a room. His sprayer was quickly jammed and he had to pay to have new sheetrock installed. He also had to replace components on his sprayer.

    • @peta23
      @peta23 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@galady8632 Ok, so it's because she's mixing it all together then. I ask because I usually use an oil primer, and once that's dry, I'm not too concerned with the topcoat.
