I flew the SAA A330 between Cape Town and São Paulo in November 2023 - the service from the cabin crew was outstanding! South African hospitality at its best. They are true ambassadors of our country. Keep it up SAA! 🇿🇦 Thank you for taking us along with you on this and the JNB-PER journey, Gabe. Great to see the behind-the-scenes of the airline. 👌🏼
Hi Gabe. As a capetownian I say for all us avgeeks down here thanks so much for your behind the scenes views of saa. It's not everyday that we get to see our city from the sky and it's even rarer to see the cockpits of our planes and to hear our unique accents on atc.
I grew up in Stellenbosch (just outside Cape Town) and did a PPL from Fisantekraal, frequently doing touch and go's at Cape Town. I left in 2018 to move to the UK to pursue a career flying and I'm now flying the airbus over here for a UK carrier. In all honesty though, the 15-year-old in me watches this with such a smile; the scenery, accents, ATC, the crew... it is all so brilliant. So much nostalgia seeing these great ladies and gentlemen flying the flag! keep up the great work - more SAA features please!
Astonishing. Most of the time Cape Town is without electricity. How do the new-called "natives" manage to keep the airfield running if they can't do it with the city?
Flown on SAA many times and even in economy there is always good food service - actually the best in the business. So happy to see them back in business.
I'm confused, this channel should have more subscribers, all other avchannels mostly do reviews only but this here is high quality, from cockpits to behind the scenes to special flight days it has it all, heck it has the best aviation app as well lol. Even the video production, from the video editing itself to the thumbnail and caption. Truly amazing.
Love your videos. The last time I flew SAA was in 2019, with my parents, to go to my aunt's memorial. Mom just lost her dear sister. SAA didn't know this but we were treated so kindly that it was as if they knew. SAA is awesome. From check-in to arrival, we were in good hands and cared for.
Going to South Africa and not having wine is actually crazy! Most of the best wines I've ever had came from South Africa. I've even went twice from London To Johannesburg and Cape Town just for their wine festivals.
This is so beautiful to watch! I am flight attendant based in USA, growing up it was always my dream to work for SAA. Hopefully the route from the US to SA will be back one of these days ❤️
Thanks man, I've already seen your JHB to Perth video and it was phenomenal. We're going to the polls in a few days, we hope we don't descent to darker times as a country. Especially with so many interested "foreign" parties.
Your videos make it seem like all is right with the world as you fly around and it is a welcome relief for a little while each Friday. Thanks for the interesting videos.
Hi Gabe, This was another very enjoyable video. I spend most of my time within 5 miles of home, so it is gr8 to see the world beyond Cleveland and Parma, Ohio...RogerC 5/17/24
Salut Gabe, thank you very much for this flight. Merci beaucoup pour ce merveilleux vol, tu rends un vol fort intéressant et c'est très très apprécié. Merci !
SAA is great - great work nice views FR24- I still think you should paint Airbus and Boeing planes according to their size 😇I could swear the other day I was looking at an A330 and a 737Max and they were both the same size. That said, FR24 is one of my favourite sites 👍
Another great vlog Gabriel wish I could be in a vlog Ona a rare aircraft flight but probably is pretty impossible and also need to fastrack a new passport but wud do if possible but once again coool vlog 😊😊😊
Hey, I just want to say thanks for making the video, but you called my dad “The first officer”, he is not a first officer he is a Senior Captain. The man that was in the Captain seat was doing his first solo flight of the A330 and my dad had to monitor him, because my dad had more experience than him. So I just thought to point that out. Anyway thanks 😊
Since he didn't want to be shown at all or identified in any way there's no need to identify him by his correct position and title - in fact it makes sense not to! Had he been in the video of course that would have been pointed out.
@@Foxez13 Yes, “Solo Flight”, the term commonly used when a person does their first flight of an airplane, but alone. However in SAA, the term is used when a pilot does his conversion on an new airplane, with someone monitoring them, just in case.
I remembered flying South African Airways in 2017 JFK to JNB before it was not doing this route due to financial issues. It was a nice flight and the crew was friendly. I am finally going back to Southern Africa in September 2025. Sadly they are not flying from JFK now. I may use them for JNB to CPT. I found your channel today. How much did you pay for a one way ticket in business Class? Loved your video. ❤❤❤❤
I agree with ppl on the comments, flying around the South of Africa should be more frequent (I meant do videos like this) we are tired of seen flying around US Europe Asia, Africa needs to be more explored by Aviation TH-cam.
A330/A350 far superior aircraft to the 787 Dreamliner especially on long haul in my opinion. At least, with Airbus you don't have the cabin crew deciding for you when to blank out the windows as they doe on the Boeing 787. It's my money, I'll decide that thank you very much !
Love the video Gabe! I’m wondering if you would ever be granted cockpit access in the Us or Eu? It seems like the security requirements might be different from country to country. Is that correct?
Yes, that's particularly the case with the US where it is flat-out impossible. Also the UK. Few other places that I know of have definitive national or regional rules about it - it's just up to the airlines. The EU has no such rules (I've done a number of EU airlines). Thanks for the support!
The service and smiles were not just for the camera. SAA staff are always like that. Nothing is ever too much for them
True. They're exceptionally lovely and warm. Evdn by African standards.
True, the SAA staff even make jokes with passengers during boarding, I don't get that with cold Flysafair staff
💯💯😊😊
If it’s SAA of course it’s stunning!

I’m surprised so many South Africans are in this comment section with all the load shedding they have. 💀🤣
In terms of hospitality no one beats SAA!
So proud of my country 🇿🇦❤️

love it

What a fresh take on this iconic carrier . . . such nice positivity, we could all learn a thing or two from this grootman!
The A330 really is a very fine plane

Wooooooooow what a reception from the staff even the crew
Great trip review. Happy to see SAA back in business.
SAA is making a come back WOOHOO!
Thank you for these videos. I have so much hope in the SAA. May they fly high 💪🏾
I hope that SAA can return to its former glory. They seem like they're on the right track👍🏻
Really? Are you serious as a South African after all the massive corruption by the ANC in SAA🤦♂🤦♂🤦♂🤦♂🤦♂🤦♂
Great stuff, Gabriel! The mighty "SpringBok" rises once again! Thank you!
Flew this route. many times in the early Seventies, had steak and egg on the early morning flights, many thanks for the memory recall.

Awesome meeting you Gabe. Love the review.

A330 flies to Accra and Lagos as well
I always have the Anura Chardonnay in SAA flights everytime...
As a rampy, it’s surprising that a lot of the bigger bypass engines are quieter (at idle) than the smaller ones like that of 737’s, F70, E190, etc.
