Looks like a cracking kit of a fascinating subject. Love the double mamba engines that ran on ship's diesel and could have one shut down for economic loitering. I was lucky enough to see one in flight at close range once and a very impressive machine it was too. There will be some nostalgic FAA viewers watching this build, Nige.

Thank you Wendy, you are a treasure. Keeping Nigel busy building interesting kits is the best way for those of us who are willing to learn from him engaged in the hobby.

Wendy, You are an absolute Star; a Gem... Your generosity toward Nigel and a few other TH-camrs is extraordinary, and of course makes for fantastic content for the rest of us!! I'm an avid modeller, but have no real way to show my stuff as these other model-making legends do, and my stuff can never match what Nigel does, even though I've been doing it for as long as he has!! 😂
Thank you for giving us mere mortals some wonderful content to enjoy.... 😊

My late brother served as a fire controlman aboard the aircraft carrier HMAS Melbourne back in the 1960's,he always spoke very highly of the Fairey Gannet as an outstanding aircraft I remember, great kit Nigel, shame they didn't release it in 1/32 scale much like they should have with the Sea king helicopter, another one he also spoke highly of from his navy days also, cheers

Well done Wendy, Airfix are rapidly becoming my favourite kit manufacturer. they seem to be run by modellers for modellers.

The yellow and black stripes are for Operation Musketeer - the Suez invasion in 1956. Gannets with the stripes still in place were later stationed on Cyprus and it's said that the yellow faded badly and ended up almost white.

Nigel, it an aircraft of it's time, designed for anti-submarine warfare. I think the 3rd man towards the rear was the weapons and sensors operator with a pilot and navigator up front....in some ways the Fleet Air Arm had not changed their manning policy since the WWII Swordfish or Fulmar where they have a pilot , navigator and with an Airgunner or an Observer to stop crew being overloaded.
These days the do ASW with helicopters and drones where as in the 50's they had fixed wing aircraft, with helicopters taking over in the 60's. The Garnet is later adapted to carry an Airborne Early Warning RADAR, so you may see Airfix adapt this kit design so that version can be made too.

The Gannet AEW was more than a variant or conversion. The fuselage was completely different and new build. The engine exhaust ducting was moved forward to vent below the wing leading edge. This allowed for the two crew to be sat together in a closed cabin for the search duties with the pilot separated from them. The radar was scabbed on under the front.
I should imagine that Airfix could use one new sprue for the fuselage parts and use the other sprues unchanged but there would be no bombay or wing weapons fit.

Wow that big kit box sure is a surprise, Nige. I’ve got the Gannet and a couple of other kits coming in together so the shipping box is going to be positively massive. Oh dear 😯. Yellow and black “invasion” stripes seem to be correct, see colour call-outs on instruction sheet. About those sink marks, this is why I never miss your reviews - nothing gets past your critical eye. 😅👍🏻

Airfix really have turned the corner on their larger scale kits. I'm hoping there will be some new tool 1:72 gems in 2024.

Oi, I disagree with that remark, Pup's banned from the workshop, there's a 80 feet exculsion zone from it. He pinches things 🤣🤣 Nice review and lovely gifts from Wendy.

Hi Nigel, well who's a very lucky boy then? You were like a yojng kid let loose in a candy stpre, but congratulations on getting these two kits, andvthat certainly is a huge box for a 48th scale aircraft. Best regards from a Kiwi living in Australia

Hi Nigel. Love your Vlogs. The Firescout is an okay kit, but the instructions are a bit hard to follow for some part placements and the choice options of the version you want to build. I ended up scanning and making blowup copies of the instructions in an effort to make sense of it.

Hi Nigel absolutely great review and what a stunning kit , quick question is there ? In the kit parts for down the line T.2/T.5 ? They have a deeper “ bulge “ below the left hand side of the front cockpit “ guess piping electric etc “ and 2 small windows just in front of the rear cockpit 😎

Its a very nice kit Nigel. But I have to disagree with you. I think it is a really ugly looking aircraft. That is why I havent ordered one. However its another vastly improved kit from Airfix. But its not for me.

Those clear parts don’t actually look that good! The buccaneer clear parts were shocking. Take a look at them close up and stood next to Tamiya or say Hasegawa clear parts and you will see that clear parts are still Airfix Achilles heel.

I disagree, the 1/24 spit and the sea king clear parts are awesome, these look very good too.
