I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed this, but in the beginning Veronica considers people to be beautiful just because of who they are and who they can be. but as soon as she joins the Heathers, she begins seeing "beautiful" as more a physical thing, about how you dress and do your hair and makeup. It's almost terrifying how quickly she changes her tune and it kind of sets up a good example of how willing she is to go along with just about anything for the rest of the show, as well as showing how quickly people can change to fit in.
That was one of the concepts of the original movie. She’s flawed, and her willingness to drop her own morals when she’s 1) invited to join the Heathers and 2) meets a JD is a satirical commentary on the fickleness of the teenage mindset.
I mean, the musical DID have a happy ending of sorts. Veronica became the new 'Heathers' ruling the school, the murderer was stopped, and no one decided to commit sudoku. I mean, yeah, four other people had to die to get there, but the ends _always_ justify the means
I know it doesn’t show in this but Kurt is the one who says “Why do I act like such a creep?” and Ram says “Why did I hit him?” I like this because it actually shows that the boys are human and aren’t actually just big dumb jocks, just like Heather M this shows that they have their own insecurities and pressures. They’re like everyone else

As for JD, as much as his actions were fucked up, from his perspective it was out of his love for Veronica.

Something I would like to point out is that no one is talking about how horrible Ms. Fleming was. One of the heathers was throwing up her food as she had an eating disorder that made her do that. Ms. Fleming simply brushed past that and cared more about giving the girl’s detention then actually caring for her student with a eating disorder. Ms. Fleming claims to love the kids, but in reality she is only in love with the *idea* of helping the kids. I found this something very important to talk about. Anyway, thanks for reading.

SPOILERS FOR NEWCOMERS Fun fact: I went into this musical knowing only one thing, that several people die and someone in the cast was a serial killer. So when Heather MacNamara said her creepy line about Veronica having a symmetrical face, I immediately assumed that the Heathers were the serial killers. I saw some people in the comments of "Fight For Me" saying JD killed for Veronica. Chandler is needed because her death is the reason for the story
I saw that too! Though. I saw it a bit different. I saw McNamera's like as in she actually hates 'Heathers' the group and what it creates in the social order, which is reinforced by her solo song lifeboat, as well as in shine a light reprise. I saw Duke's as in she wants to be Heather. She wants to be 'Heathers', like how she tries taking control in the Candy Store note, or how she actually does take control once Chandler is dead. And I Chandler's as in she needs the social system. That she simply couldn't exist without being on top. Like when Jason makes the comparison that Heathers and Marthas can only get along when they're both dead. And the instant Chandler dies, the social order she 'needs' starts falling apart.

She still bullied people and still was an ass, she just had the most potential to change. Duke was worthless to heather c. Some minor spoilers in this: Little note about Duke’s line that Veronica could stand to lose a few pounds.. It’s knowledge that Heather Duke has bulimia, which is an eating disorder where you eat a lot of food, and then force yourself to purge it all out (Most commonly through vomiting) and one root behind bulimia is fear of weight gain, it’s similar to anorexia except for the fact that bulimia still includes binge eating episodes. And in the movie, it clearly shows that after Chandler died, Duke stopped purging out the food she ate. So it’s pretty clear that her bulimia stemmed from a fear that she’d be thrown out of the group if she didn’t maintain the perfect body, but after Chandler died, the leading horseman of the group wasn’t around to hold power over her anymore, and Duke took over, so she stopped purging out what she had because she no longer had that fear of being thrown out of the group. And that’s why she said Veronica could stand to lose a few pounds, because she believed that someone had to have the perfect weight and figure to be part of the Heathers Thank you for coming to my presentation

Something I noticed.
McNamara gets the chorus lines "I hate Heather, Heather, and Heather."
Duke gets the lines "I want Heather, Heather, and Heather."
Chandler gets the lines "I need Heather, Heather, and Heather."
McNamara is hated later by the school after Chandler's death because of Duke.
Duke is wanted because she replaces Chandler.
Chandler is needed because her death is the reason for the story

I saw that too! Though. I saw it a bit different.
I saw McNamera's like as in she actually hates 'Heathers' the group and what it creates in the social order, which is reinforced by her solo song lifeboat, as well as in shine a light reprise.
I saw Duke's as in she wants to be Heather. She wants to be 'Heathers', like how she tries taking control in the Candy Store note, or how she actually does take control once Chandler is dead.
And I Chandler's as in she needs the social system. That she simply couldn't exist without being on top. Like when Jason makes the comparison that Heathers and Marthas can only get along when they're both dead. And the instant Chandler dies, the social order she 'needs' starts falling apart.
@@statictacos1138 I think heather Mc. Didn't start to notice how bad the group was till after heather c. And Kurt and Rams deaths. She still bullied people and still was an ass, she just had the most potential to change.
Duke was worthless to heather c. And was always shut up by her, when she died duke didn't have anyone telling her how horrible and worthless she was so she got power hungry trying to find control.
Heather c. seems like the one to keep things in check but ends up hurting her own friend group.
They all were just as bad as the other one but Mc. Had the most potential to change(just my opinion)

Some minor spoilers in this:
Little note about Duke’s line that Veronica could stand to lose a few pounds.. It’s knowledge that Heather Duke has bulimia, which is an eating disorder where you eat a lot of food, and then force yourself to purge it all out (Most commonly through vomiting) and one root behind bulimia is fear of weight gain, it’s similar to anorexia except for the fact that bulimia still includes binge eating episodes. And in the movie, it clearly shows that after Chandler died, Duke stopped purging out the food she ate. So it’s pretty clear that her bulimia stemmed from a fear that she’d be thrown out of the group if she didn’t maintain the perfect body, but after Chandler died, the leading horseman of the group wasn’t around to hold power over her anymore, and Duke took over, so she stopped purging out what she had because she no longer had that fear of being thrown out of the group. And that’s why she said Veronica could stand to lose a few pounds, because she believed that someone had to have the perfect weight and figure to be part of the Heathers
